Chapter 519: Awaiting Surprise.
By the time the sun had dipped below the skyline, Nora had just finished going through the final reports for the day. Her schedule had been packed and exhausting, but it had gone smoothly until a black luxury car pulled up at the company’s front entrance.
She was still working on the file when her new secretary informed her about the car Alric had sent. She frowned and asked the driver to report in the office.
“I was not told that we have an appointment. Why did Alric send you?” looking at the confused woman, the driver felt at a loss of words.
“Madam Nora,” the suited driver stepped forward, his voice polite yet assertive. “The boss has asked me to bring you to a hotel for dinner.”
Nora blinked in confusion, brushing her hair behind her ear. “Alric? But we didn’t have anything planned for tonight.”
She quickly took out her phone and dialed his number. It rang, but he didn’t pick up. That was strange. She looked at the phone and then at the man in confusion. She recognized him. She had often seen him with Alric, but these days, trusting was the biggest issue with her.
“Let me call her again.” She took a deep breath and dialled the number again but even this time no one picked it up.
Her brows furrowed, and she was about to decline the offer when the driver took out a sleek envelope and handed it to her. “He asked me to give this to you, in case you refused.”
She hesitated, but her eyes widened as she recognized the handwriting immediately. Those strong elegant and precise strokes only belong to Alric.
Opening the envelope, she read the simple note written in his familiar hand:
“Trust me and do not ask any questions Just for tonight. Wear what I chose and come to meet me, I will be waiting.”
Something about the words made her heart flutter and her spine straighten. A small, soft sigh escaped her lips, and after a moment’s hesitation, she nodded.
Just as she was about to leave the office, the driver held out a glossy black garment bag with a golden zipper. “The boss asked you to wear this specifically.”
Nora raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. “He picked a dress for me?”
She took the bag and headed into the changing room inside the building. As soon as she unzipped it, her breath caught.
The dress inside was nothing short of exquisite.
A shimmering black evening gown with a subtle mermaid silhouette. It was made from midnight satin that clung gently to her body without revealing too much. The neckline was an elegant sweetheart cut, modest yet alluring, shaped to frame her collarbones and shoulders. It had delicate black beads running in intricate patterns across the bodice, glimmering like starlight when they caught the light.
The gown hugged her waist, accentuating the curve of her hips before flowing smoothly down into a soft flare that brushed the floor with each step. The back dipped in a tasteful V-cut, exposing just enough skin to be sensual without being bold.
A thin, silver belt rested just above her waist, highlighting her hourglass figure, and tiny onyx stones were embroidered along the hem, making it sparkle every time the fabric moved.
The dress was graceful. Like it had been chosen by someone who truly saw her.Nora touched the fabric with a strange warmth blooming in her chest.
He really chose this for me.
She gave one last look in the mirror. Her dark brown hair was still tied back in a loose bun from work, but she simply freed it, letting it fall naturally around her shoulders. She didn’t need much makeup, just a touch of gloss and light mascara. The gown did the rest.
When she returned, the driver opened the car door without a word. She stepped in but her thoughts spinning faster than the tires as the vehicle pulled into the night.
Was he really going to propose to her tonight? She had asked for a good proposal. Had he already prepared a ring? She had never thought that her hands would be sweaty one day when she would go meet him. Her heart beat faster and she could not hide the smile off her face.
“Would you like water, madam?” Nora looked at the scenrely and realized they were going far from the city. Her hands reached for her mobile, but she let it go. Something told her that he was not going to pick it up.
“Yes, water would be fine.” the driver nodded and took out a bottle for her. She drank a mouthful. The water felt strange but she blamed it on her nervousness and pushed the bottle away. Suddenly she sneezed hard and covered her face with the handkerchief.
“Ah, I am sorry.” she laughed softly hiding her embarrassment. The driver looked concerned.
“Madam, it would take a long time to reach there. If you want, you can take a nap. I will wake you up when we reach there.” he said in a thoughtful voice as if he was worried about her tiring herself. “After all, it is your special day.” Nora watched the man in the mirror. A smile appeared on her lips like a girl in love.
“Do you know what he had planned?” The man was stunned by the question. It took him a second to collect thoughts and he shook his head.
“No madam, how could I know what the boss is planning? But it seems it is a special day.” he hinted softly, making her smile again and she nodded.
“But I am not tired. If any, I am too excited to sleep.” she replied as she opened the window and looked out. The driver wanted to say more but decided against it and concentrated on driving. But he noticed how she was looking at the scenery intently.
“If you like, we could arrange something to eat or you can continue to drink water then.”
