Chapter 514: Heartbroken
Before Max could even open his mouth to reply, Nat stepped forward with fire in her eyes and slapped Lisa hard across the face. Everyone was stunned speechless since nat had always been the enduring one.

Lisa staggered slightly, her hair falling over her face as she winced, clutching her cheek. But she didn’t fight back. Instead, she looked up with tear-brimmed eyes, lips trembling, still playing the victim.

“How dare you?” Nat’s voice shook with rager! her chest rising and falling with the effort of holding herself together. “You gave my information to strangers even when I told you I was hiding here! And now you are acting all innocent? you knew they were dangerous and still gave them everything!” Her voice broke, but she didn’t stop. “And while you were Max’s girlfriend, you were sleeping with someone else!”

Lisa’s lips parted, but no words came.

“Answer me!” Nat shouted, trembling from head to toe. “How could you do that to someone you claimed to care about? How could you crawl into someone else’s bed while still wearing the mask of a devoted girlfriend? That day I felt guilty even when we had nothing in between. While you went with someone in that hotel and.. ” she could not bring herself to say it.

Lisa clenched her jaw for a moment. She wiped at the corner of her mouth and tried to steady her breathing. “I was hurt,” she said finally, voice weak but defensive. “You think I didn’t see what was happening? The way you two looked at each other? I knew you were falling for each other. I was already losing him. You both betrayed me first and it was just in the heat of the moment!”

“That’s your excuse?” Max’s voice was like ice.

Lisa flinched and turned to him.

“That is all you could think of?” he said slowly, he looked dangerously calm now, the fury in him too thick to explode. “You were hurt, so you decided to sell Natalie’s life to strangers? You cheated on me with the man you introduced me as your brother! I drained all my money to get your lover admission into the university! And you planned to disappear after using me, and now you are trying to say it was all our fault?”

Lisa’s eyes brimmed again, her lips trembling. “I—I loved you, Max—”

“No, you didn’t!” he cut her off with a shout that reverberated through the walls. “You loved my money. You loved what I could do for you. You loved pretending to be someone good.”

He took a step forward and pointed to the shattered phone on the ground. “That… that was the real you. And I didn’t see it because I trusted you. You used my guilt, my kindness, my damn savings, and you still wanted to ruin Nat?”

Lisa opened her mouth, trying to come up with anything, but her voice had left her. The tears that now streamed down her face no longer looked convincing. Her hands trembled, but it wasn’t out of sorrow. It was from being exposed.

“I want you out,” Max said with finality. “Out of this house. Out of my life. And if you ever go near Nat again, I will make sure the police see that video.”

“You said it was recorded in a hotel—”

“I didn’t record it,” Nora interrupted coolly, stepping forward with her arms folded. “The hotel room was booked under Jamie’s name. He set up the camera. He was bragging about it to one of his friends. You’re not the only one who underestimated how reckless your lover was.”

Lisa looked between them, stunned into silence. That fool!

“Just go,” Nat said, her voice barely above a whisper now. “You were the one who claimed I was stealing what belonged to you. But Max was never yours to begin with! He is not your toy, not your wallet, and definitely not your victim.”

Tears fell from Lisa’s eyes, but no one offered her comfort this time.

She looked at Max one last time, and when she realized he wasn’t going to stop her, she staggered back a few steps and finally turned toward the door.

The room remained frozen until the sound of the front door slamming echoed like a period at the end of a bitter sentence.

Nora exhaled deeply. “Well,” she muttered, “that gift had more impact than I expected.”

Nat turned to her slowly. “You knew… everything?”

Nora gave a small shrug. “I waited for both of you to find it yourself, but you are such a fool like I was when I was with Victor. Guilt makes us fool sometimes. But enough to know you deserved the truth. And maybe… a little justice too.”

Max looked at the broken phone, his fists clenched at his sides, then finally at Nat. His face was filled with pain and apology. But for the first time in a long while, there was no guilt behind his gaze, just the unbearable weight of betrayal.

“Are you okay?” he asked softly.

Nat didn’t reply at first. Her body was still trembling, her mind reeling. But then she met his eyes. “I don’t know,” she admitted. “But I will be. After all, Chris is not here to harm me anymore. So my safety is not jeopardized. What about you?”

Max did not know how to respond to that. Was he okay? He had thought that he would feel the pain of the betrayal. His mind was telling that he should be angry. But he could only feel… relief! He was free from Lisa and did not need to blame himself when he chose Nat.

Nora could read his mind and sighed.

“He is heartbroken, nat. He had trusted someone and it ended up like this. I would have been crushed if I had been at his place.” she acted dramatically, but Nat was too emotional to notice. When Max looked at her to explain, she winked at him making his eyes wide and then pointed at nat.

He slumped on the ground instantly looking heartbroken.

“Oh! Max!”
