Chapter 512: A Departing Gift!
Max’s throat tightened as he saw Nat stepping back, her hands trembling even as her face remained firm. His chest heaved as he fought to find the right words, anything that could make her stay, that could undo the hurt he had caused. But he found none. He knew she was disappointed in him.

“I’ll fix this,” he said hoarsely, stepping toward her again. “I’ll make everything right. I just, I do not want to hurt both of us. Lisa had shown her trust in me and I wanted to make it up for her.”

She gave him an incredulous look!

“By giving her money!” she scorned but Max nodded.

“You do not know her, I do! She would be happy to have money.” at least this much was clear in his mind. “I am doing this for both of us, Natalie. I swear to you, Nat, I never meant to leave you alone.”

She stared at him, silently but her jaw clenched. Then, in one sharp movement, she walked up to him and slapped him hard across the face. The sound echoed in the room like a thunderclap.

Max staggered slightly from the force of it, his cheek stinging. His eyes snapped back to her, stunned.

“I liked you, Max,” she hissed in a shaking voice, the emotion she had tried to bury bubbling to the surface. “But I am done living like this. I do not want to be a homewrecker.”

His lips parted, breath caught, but before either of them could speak again, the doorbell rang.

Nat wiped her eyes quickly and turned away, stepping back toward her suitcase. Max remained still, his fingers twitching at his side.

Then the front door clicked open.

Nora stepped inside like she belonged there, her heels tapping softly against the floor. She glanced around, arching an eyebrow as she took in the scene, Nat with her packed bags, Max with a red mark on his face. Her eyes filled with joy and mischief.

“Ah,” she said, casually. “I forgot how tense it can get in here.”

Nat’s eyes narrowed at her friend. For some reason, she felt Nora had planned this though she trusted Nora would never hurt her.

“Why are you here? I thought we were done talking.”

Nora’s smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. She held up a small envelope in her hand. “I had one more gift for the two of you. Consider it a closure you were looking for.”

Max moved toward her, his voice low and strained. “Nora, this isn’t the time.”

But before anyone could stop her, Nora turned and gestured to someone behind her.

The door opened wider and Lisa stepped in.

Nat’s breath caught in her throat.

Lisa looked thinner than before, her eyes sunken, her hands twitching with nerves as she walked inside, glancing around like a deer stepping into a trap. Max froze at his stop. But his eyes instinctively looked at nat.

Nora beamed. “Surprise.” She did not have a hint of guilt on her face as she pulled Lisa inside and settled on the sofa beside her.

“Lisa, I hope you do not mind being here.” Nora smiled at the pale girl. but before Lisa could comment,Nat clenched her fists and trembled. “Why did you bring her here?”

Nora gave a small shrug, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “You both needed honesty, right? What better way than to have all the truths spill out at once?”

Max opened his mouth to protest, but Lisa stepped forward.

“I didn’t come to cause problems,” she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t know Nora was going to bring me here. But since I am here, I just want answers. Max, are you cheating on me with her?”

Her voice was so low and shattered as if she had lost her will to live. Max took a deep breath.

“Lisa, I want to end things with you. I know this is not the right way but I do not love you and this relationship will only drag down both of us. I know you..”

Nat took a slow, deep breath, her eyes still on Nora. “I am not with max. In fact, I am leaving tonight.”

“You are leaving?” Lisa’s eyes beamed but she hid the joy hurriedly. The silence that followed was heavy and bitter. Max looked at both women, one he had hurt, one he had betrayed.

“She is not!” he said in a calm voice and Lisa turned to look at her again.

“Max! We have been together for a long time. I know that she is more beautiful and since you share a house with her, your thoughts are swayed but it is only momentarily. She is already pregnant and did not want you. Why are you forcing her?” her voice was so soft and so caring as if she was only worried about Max. Nora laughed softly, earning a look from all three of them.

“Miss Nora, I am relieved that you have brought me here on time. But this is our personal matter. It would not look good if you keep lingering here.” Lisa said in a worried tone, but Nora only raised a brow.

“I will leave the moment Max opens my gift.” Max glared at her. For the first he felt resentment toward her. He was already struggling to handle the matter but she was making it harder.

“Nora, i will come to meet you later.” he explained but she waved her hands.

“That would not be needed. Since I am free, I am willing to wait for a long time.”

“….” this left all of them stunned. Max gritted his teeth.

“Fine, let’s open your gift first.” he tore the envelope with sheer force and frowned when he found a pen drive inside. He looked at her again but she only smirked and singalled him to continue.

Suppressing his anger, he took out his phone and attached the pendrive to it. Lisa sighed and sat back.

“I do not understand what..” but she stopped abruptly when the voices filled the room.
