Chapter 510: Leave The Past Behind!
“I can not take this!” Nat shook her head as she looked at the property and companies worth millions. “It didn’t belong to me.”

Nora smiled as if she had expected this reply. And she knew the answer already.

“Chris did not have any family left except his unborn child. Even the court and law would confirm your rights on the property.” that made Nat frown. Her hands reached for her belly and she rubbed it instinctively.

“But I thought Chris was bankrupt. He had run away because of the debt collectors. Right?” The whole country knows about this affair. It was even broadcasted in the news.

Nora grinned slyly as she nodded.

“Yes. Alric made sure Chris lost everything. He manipulated the stock, bought out the debt, pulled the strings behind the scenes. Chris never knew until it was too late. And even when he did find out, he was too proud to beg for help or he knew Alric would never help him. But Alric had only done all this with the intel you and Aiden had provided. But now that he is dead, Alric is returning everything.”

Nat stared at the folders spread across the table where there were property documents, bank records, business shares. But she still shook her head.

“I can’t,” she whispered. “I don’t want any of this. It never meant anything to me. I don’t need it.”

Nora looked at her long and hard. Then, slowly, she stood and walked over to where Nat sat, placing a hand gently over hers, which was still resting protectively on her belly.

“Maybe you don’t need it,” she said quietly, “but your child will.”

Nat’s eyes lifted to hers, uncertain.

“This isn’t about Chris anymore,” Nora continued. “It’s about your future. Their future. You don’t have to accept it for yourself—but take it for them. Give them a life that isn’t stained by Chris’s mistakes. Build something better. Use what he ruined… to fix what’s left.”

Nat blinked quickly, her throat tightening. She looked down at her belly, then at the papers again. A part of her still recoiled at the thought of accepting anything connected to Chris. But another part,a quieter, rational part knew Nora was right. This was no longer about pride. But about making mistakes, right!

She swallowed hard and finally gave a small, wavering nod. “I’ll think about it.”

Nora smiled gently. “That’s all I ask.” she took a step back and smiled, “now, i must leave. I have things to handle in the company. Everyone is in shock after the last accident.” Nat nodded. Her eyes moving to the bandages on her shoulders.

“You should have rested more!” Nora grinned.

“I went to see him dead! Nothing could provide me more peace than that! Now that everyone has ended, we are planning my marriage. After that, I will only rest as Mrs Spencer.” Nat chuckled, looking at her gleaming eyes.

She knew being Mrs Spencer was only a start. There would be no rest once she would be part of the family. Yet, when she noticed the glow on Nora;s face, she felt happy for her.

“I hope I will be the bridesmaid.” she commented teasingly only to get a giggle in response. Was that a yes or a no?

Nora did not stay after that, she left after collecting her things but she left all the files related to Chris so that Nat could study them later and make a decision.

Nat closed the door behind her and took a deep breath. Chris was finally gone! It felt hard to accept. She wanted to see his still body too but when Nora did not mention it, it was hard for her to ask for that. Perhaps, it was for the better that she did not see his face again ever.

She went to the kitchen and warmed the coffee again. She did not drink it with Nora. she had thought max would return by then. But there was so sign of him returning. She had called the hospital earlier but she was told that he had taken a leave from the hospital yesterday. He only treated nora.

She thought that he had gone to see Nora until Nora pressed their bell.

Her chest tightened just thinking about where he could be. Since there was no place left except Lisa.

Nat held the warm mug between her hands, but it brought no comfort.

She stared blankly at the quiet kitchen. The coffee had long lost its flavor, just like the words Max had whispered to her last night, words that now felt bitter on her tongue.

“You’re the only one I want, Nat. The only one I’ll ever have in my life.”

She had believed him. Lisa! The name echoed like betrayal. Nat had tried not to think of her, of the woman who had always lingered between them like a shadow. Afterall, she was his real lover and Nat was… a third party!

She had told herself that Max had moved on, that his choice was clear. But it was not true. Was she a fool for trusting him?

Just last night, Max had held her so tightly, as if letting her go would kill him. His fingers had brushed over her stomach, his voice husky with emotion as he said, “I’ll take care of both of you. Always.”

Nat set the mug down a little too hard on the counter, the clink of ceramic sharp in the stillness.

“Lies,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

A part of her wanted to call him. To demand the truth. To beg for honesty. But she didn’t.

If he wanted her, he would come. He would fight. He would prove his words weren’t just illusions whispered in the dark.

Until then, she wouldn’t chase him. She looked at the properties again with a dark look in her eyes and then she called Nora.

“I will take the properties. Now that I do not need to hide, can I leave this house?”
