Chapter 1409: Curing Fang First!
William was unbothered and unobstructed by anything; the remaining enemy soldiers parted like the Red Sea before him, terrified by the army of monsters that served as his personal guard.

Seeing him walking back startled everyone who caught sight of him, but Becky and Anjie, possessing a sharper intuition for his plans, immediately understood his intent.

“Bring all the wounded to the inner parts of the city!” Anjie’s voice rang out, amplified by her spirit power. “There is a way to heal everyone! Clear the streets and move the fallen now!”

Her orders spread like wildfire amidst the weary, blood-soaked masters fighting in the city. After days of watching their comrades rot and bleed out from wounds that refused to close, a spark of hope ignited.

Lots of them started to look for their wounded friends, lifting them onto stretchers or carrying them on their backs, moving them steadily into the inner districts.

No one needed to ask where to carry the wounded; they all simply followed the heavy, rhythmic footsteps of the monsters accompanying their guild master.

“I heard you found a way to solve this problem, cough! Cough!” The moment William arrived at the makeshift medical encampment where Lara and Fang were stationed, Fang spoke up weakly.

The old man looked terrible; his face was a ghostly grey, and his robes were stiff with dried blood. “You did pull another miracle… Hurry, heal her first!”

Fang had been pushing himself beyond the limits of human endurance for a very long time, acting as a shield for those weaker than him.

William wasn’t surprised to see the old man staggering, struggling to even stand straight, his spirit power flickering like a candle in a gale.

And yet, true to his character, Fang didn’t put himself on the top of the list; he pointed a trembling finger toward Lara, pleading for William to save her first.

“Old men first,” William said, his voice firm but laced with a rare thread of warmth. He dashed forward to support Fang before the elder could collapse. “That’s your privilege as a senior, so enjoy it.”

Before Fang could offer any further objection, William took one of the newly prepared healing elixir bottles and handed it over. He needed to be absolutely sure of the potency before administering it to the hundreds of dying soldiers.

“I need to know if there is the right amount of antidote in these bottles. So take a sip for me, and tell me what you feel.”

“Ok,” Fang gave William a silent, blaming look, a faint glint of his old humour returning to his eyes.

It was as if he was saying it wasn’t enough to be mortally wounded; now he was being used as a test subject for an experimental brew. Nonetheless, he trusted William implicitly. He took the bottle and took a measured sip as requested.

“Oh, it’s working,” Fang whispered after a moment. The diluted elixir wasn’t as violently fast as the concentrated droplet William had tested earlier.

It took a few minutes for the blackened edges of Fang’s wounds to turn pink and for half of his lacerations to begin knitting together. Gradually, his breathing became less laboured, and he began to grow stronger.

William had picked Fang for this test not because he was one of the strongest masters, but because he was terribly wounded and had exhausted most of his spirit power resisting the toxin.

Fang was a seasoned veteran; he would be very perceptive of any minute change or improvement he experienced. He was the best candidate to assess the subtle effects of the diluted elixir.

Seeing William remaining silent, simply watching him with an analytical eye, Fang understood what was needed.

“The toxin is being cleansed, but I can still feel a lingering chill. The wounds are half-healed, and the antidote is still active in my veins, but the effect is starting to taper off. It’s getting weaker.”

“Then take another sip,” William instructed, his mind already adjusting the dilution ratio for the next batch. “Tell me if it kills all the toxins from your body or if we need a higher concentration.”

“As you wish,” Fang said. He shrugged himself free from William’s support, testing his balance. He stood on his own, slowly opening and closing his fists, experiencing the sensation of his strength returning after days of feeling his life force wither away like a dying leaf.

The moment he took another sip, the change was profound. He felt a surge of warmth radiate from his stomach to his extremities.

The deep, jagged wounds on his chest and arms started to close up entirely. In ten minutes, the skin was smooth, leaving only faint scars where the deadly toxin had once resided.

“It’s all gone,” Fang said, his voice returning to the strong, resonant old tone he had lacked for days. He stood tall, his aura stabilising. “I’m back! I feel like I could take on a whole battalion!”

“Then go and take over the frontline,” William said, handing Fang a crate of the prepared bottles. He moved his eyes around the crowded square, seeing the desperate faces of the wounded waiting for their turn. “I have a lot more work to do here.”

Fang didn’t say anything, simply watched him lean over Lara and empty the rest of the elixir bottle into her mouth. He saw the way William’s hands remained steady, devoid of the frantic energy that had gripped the rest of the city.

To Fang, it was clear that William was no longer just a talented youth; he was a focal point of destiny itself.

“Times are indeed changing,” Fang could only inwardly sigh, acknowledging that the era of the old guard was giving way to something far more formidable.

Without another word, he turned, dashing as fast as he could and heading towards the outer city walls. His renewed spirit power surged through his limbs, making him feel decades younger.

Without asking, William sent a team of ten monsters with him. These were high-tier beasts, their eyes glowing with a primitive intelligence and unyielding loyalty to William.
