Chapter 1406: Reclaiming the Outer Walls!
Watching this made everyone realise one thing; William intended to take back the city in one simple move! He wasn’t interested in a slow war of attrition; he was cutting the throat of the enemy’s strategy.
Reclaiming the walls and clearing the enemies closest to them from both sides meant the enemies fighting inside the city were entrapped!
There was no way out for them, and the walls were now waiting for William’s masters to use as their base. The tactical genius of the move was breathtaking; in seconds, the hunters had become the hunted.
Realising this changed everything! Many orders rained down like there was no tomorrow, driving and pushing everyone to their limits, with one single and simple goal: reach the walls and take control of them!
The hesitation that had gripped the defenders vanished, replaced by a desperate, hopeful ferocity.
The chance William created started a fire in his side, and the enemies started to catch wind of their impending doom. William’s monsters were unstoppable!
No matter how many enemies stood in their way, they all got killed and scrambled in no time! The monstrous summons tore through the enemy ranks like a scythe through dry wheat, leaving nothing but broken bodies and shattered morale in their wake.
Seeing their only way out being cut off, the enemies inside the city started to panic and flee. This made it much easier for William’s masters to push faster and get to the city’s outer walls in less than five hours!
The chaotic retreat of the invaders turned into a rout as the guild masters capitalised on the confusion, reclaiming street after street until the flags of the city once again flew over the ramparts.
“The city you wanted to bring down is now reclaimed,” William turned his attention towards the area outside the city, his eyes piercing through the distance.
“And the army you brought here is in shambles. As for your two friends, they are long dead. It’s only you and I, it’s only you who are left…” William muttered slowly, while descending the walls and moving towards one direction.
William was speaking like he was the only person in the world. His spirit senses were spread all around, looking through the large number of scared masters standing between him and his target.
He didn’t see the thousands of soldiers as threats; he saw them as obstacles in his path to the one man who had orchestrated this misery.
“There is no way for you to get out from here, there is no power that can protect you. Just give up and show yourself,” William kept walking, surrounded by his monsters, while any masters he met died.
He was walking right into the heart of the enemy’s main army, surrounded by tens of thousands of masters, and yet he wasn’t even fazed or worried!
In fact, anywhere he went, he spread fear and chaos! His enemies were shit scared of him; once they saw him coming, they tried to run as far away as possible from him.
The mere sight of the young master, calm and relentless amidst his terrifying summons, was enough to break the spirit of seasoned veterans.
It was pointless, especially when the area was filled to the brim with masters. The city was surrounded by a small series of hills, limiting the lands stretching in front of the main city gates for miles.
This geography, which the enemy had once thought would help them lay siege, now acted as a funnel for their destruction.
Seeing this made the spirits of everyone standing on the reclaimed city walls boil! Many shouts erupted, and lots of masters started to pour outside the city, following the steps of the legendary Fox Guild master, killing any enemy they met.
The momentum was total. The defenders were no longer just holding a wall; they were participating in a historic counter-offensive.
William didn’t care about the ongoing fight around the city. He already saved the city from the imminent predicament, and he trusted Anjie, Becky, and Fang to know how to handle the fight from this moment on.
They were capable leaders, and with the walls secured, the battle was effectively won for the city.
His main focus was over Vladimir. He had to find and kill that serpent. The man who had hidden in the shadows, pulling the strings of this invasion, was the only target that mattered now.
Once killed, he would seek an antidote for that infamous poison used in this battle, and save Lara, save everyone. The weight of his friends’ lives rested on his shoulders, and he would not stop until the serpent’s head was severed.
The good news was that as long as they didn’t use their spirit power too much, then they would have a long time to live. The toxin thrived on the circulation of spirit energy, turning a master’s own strength into a catalyst for their destruction.
Yet true masters like Fang were going to suffer from their bravery; they were the ones who had stood at the front lines, burning through their reserves to protect the innocent. William didn’t want to see that happening.
He didn’t want to see any brave master suffer from that nasty toxin, especially not those who had looked to him for leadership when the sky turned dark.
William knew the true nature of Vladimir—he was a coward in heart and spirit. Despite his vast knowledge of poisons and his cruel machinations, Vladimir lacked the iron will of a true combatant.
He wouldn’t voluntarily show himself after seeing what happened to the Reaper. The sight of his comrade being obliterated had undoubtedly sent him into a spiral of paranoia.
So William wasn’t really trying to lure him out by his words; he wanted to make him feel more fear and get really scared.
Losing hope wasn’t enough. William wanted Vladimir to feel the same as other enemies around; truly scared of being here, being in a place with William, and would try to flee with all his might.
