Chapter 1348: An Unexpected Factor!
William and Becky would act like fire fighters, jumping from one battlefield to another. They wouldn’t fight to win and wouldn’t intervene to kill all the monsters. Their main task would be to flip the tables around and put their side into a more favourable spot.
Becky was quite impatient and restless, not as calm as him. She knew how scary these monsters could become if given enough time and experience in dealing with masters.
She expressed her doubts more than once already, suggesting a big remodelling of the entire battle plan. Yet William didn’t heed her advice, instead he calmly stood in front of the portals, waiting for any request for help.
Just as the first day was about to end, William received the first request to aid. And it was a surprising request nonetheless!
“Sara is asking for help? Didn’t she and Berry get the support from their clans and academy?!” From the side, Becky was surprised when she heard where help was needed.
“They must have split the masters among them,” William softly sighed, “instead of working together, they must have decided to target a large area, ending up messing things around.”
“Then… Does that mean Berry will also ask for the same help soon?” Becky turned to William, while the latter started walking towards the portal leading to where Sara was.
“We shall expect such a scenario,” William was a bit surprised, as he expected the first to ask for help would be Lina. Yet it seemed the masters from the academy were facing lots of trouble handling those monsters.
“Tell me about the situation in brief,” as he stood in front of the portal, he asked the small group of twenty masters who came to ask for his help.
“We tried to lure the monsters as planned,” one of them, a middle-aged man, spoke up, “at first things progressed smoothly, and we managed to kill lots of monsters. Then everything changed a few hours ago…”
The situation was indeed just as William expected. The monsters began to learn and adapt, putting their counter tactics and put Sara’s masters under heavy pressure.
The monsters acted like intelligent beings, taking Sara’s masters by surprise. At first, they evaded the constant attempts to lure them into traps, then they started to adopt a different and far more terrifying approach; they started planning their traps!
The request for aid came when Sara’s grandfather led a group of strong masters from the academy and fell into one of the monsters’ traps. It was unprecedented, and right now Sara was leading everyone to attack and save her grandfather.
“She really loves her grandfather to fall into such an obvious trap,” Becky sighed from the side when she heard what Sara’s masters said. And William couldn’t help but bitterly smile.
It was a clear trap, one that anyone could tell. The monsters were using Sara’s grandfather’s small group to lure the bigger army into a deadly net, where they would face a terrible situation.
“How far are we from them?” Once William crossed the portal, he found himself in a big town. It was filled with lots of people, with a small number of masters left behind to defend the town and common folks.
“Around three hours away,” the middle-aged master pointed towards a direction, “two hours from here there is a large area of mountainous terrain. It spans over hundreds of miles, and monsters took it as their base of operation.”
“Interesting,” William paused, before looking around, “this is one of the three kingdoms surrounding the Novice kingdom, right?”
Everyone nodded, giving him the name of this kingdom; The Lightful Kingdom. William didn’t ask to know the name; he asked to consider a possibility.
“What are you thinking about?” as he knew the direction, he left in a hurry alone with Becky, leaving behind the group of masters who were sent over.
“We cleared lots of dark master bases in the Novice kingdom, and lots of the world, but…”
“You didn’t act here before,” she said in realisation, “then we should expect those dirty bastards to fish in the dirty waters!”
“My thoughts exactly,” William didn’t think before of such a factor, and it was indeed quite troubling. Facing those monsters would be super hard for the army of masters here, and with the presence of those dark masters, it would be better to change the entire plan.
[Send a message over to all forces in all kingdoms…] As he realised such a hidden threat, William didn’t hesitate to spread the word back to the twenty masters running far behind. He instructed them to turn over, go and visit all other places using Lara’s city group of portals.
He had to warn everyone of such neglected factor. He even asked them to start gathering information and scout for the presence of such infamous masters.
His orders were clear, if they found out about any, they would stop any fighting and retreat. They should lay down defensive lines around big towns and cities, while sending for his help and wait for him.
Doing it this way would make this war take a much longer turn, yet William knew it was better than losing the war on many fronts. He knew the battles at the Novice kingdom would be the smoothest out of all, and that made him start considering a grand shift in the current tactics.
He wanted to get rid of these monsters fast, not giving them time to evolve further. But with the unpredicted factor of dark masters in play, it was clear the old plan would miserably fail!
The tactic put in play was designed to get rid of the monsters, not dark masters. Even if monsters were harder to kill, they lacked what the dark masters enjoyed, the home territory advantage!
Fighting dark masters required a totally different approach, by finding and killing them in their bases. William would never underestimate such force, even if he hated them down to the bone!
“What shall we do now?” Becky also realised how hard it was to fight this war now.
