Chapter 1344: Anjie’s Unexpected Decision!
“Are you sure about this?” As everyone expressed their agreement on Lara’s weird suggestion, Becky couldn’t help but ask William directly, “you know they can’t be trusted!”
“We have to promise them something in return,” William already considered such a possibility before. It was clear to him that his friends and top guild masters would fail in learning the right techniques in this short time. And yet it was impractical to let him and Becky handle the task of killing those monsters.
The scale of this war was an issue, and the only solution he got was to use the help of capable masters, ones who would easily learn these techniques, or know similar ones that could help.
“Like what? Setting them free?!” Becky could read through what he had in mind, and yet she didn’t like that.
“Do we have any other option but this?” William sighed, “we have to kill these monsters as fast as we can. We already wasted a day, and we didn’t get anything in return.”
“But…”
“We have to start the attack right away,” William interrupted her, “and the main issue is that we need to find them first.”
“…” She got what he wanted to say. He gave these masters to the king, and he didn’t plan to get them back when he put down this plan.
Yet he had to improvise. Thinking about using the help of these masters meant he needed to first move against the king and top masters of the kingdom earlier than he planned. And yet he wasn’t that worried.
“We will need her help,” Lara read through what these two were discussing, the same as anyone who stood by William’s side for too long, “will she agree to help?”
“I’ll go and speak with her,” William took in a deep breath, as this was the only thing that made him quite hesitant about doing this. He wanted Anjie to rest and stay away from all of this. And yet, he needed her help or else the alternative would be an all-out war with the king and the kingdom’s top masters.
“Let me speak with her instead,” Fang cleared up his throat, suddenly saying this, “I say it’s a bad idea to let you speak with her. Let me do the talk.”
“Why?” William sized Fang up and down, as he didn’t see what the old man meant.
“I’m Sloth’s old friend, her mentor’s old friend,” Fang gave such a weird excuse, before clearing his throat again, “I received the news hours ago, Sloth… He went ahead and threw himself against those monsters, dying in the process.”
“…” William didn’t see that coming, and yet he didn’t feel that much remorse about the loss of Sloth. He didn’t need to dig around to know that Sloth was one of the main players behind such a disaster. “If you feel so then give it a try,” he wanted to do this himself, and yet for a reason he felt it’d be better for Fang to do it instead.
William couldn’t tell how Anjie would react to Sloth’s death news. And yet he felt like Fang had a plan in mind. On top of that, if Fang learnt about that, then perhaps Anjie also heard the news.
“I’ll inform you of the updates,” Fang learnt about where Anjie was, before leaving to meet her.
“Are you sure about that?” Sara was the first to speak up, and William responded with a deep sigh.
“Let’s see how he’ll do,” he looked around, “if he failed, I’ll still step in and help.”
He then turned his attention to the many maps on the table, “let’s review our plans once again. Then you’ll all leave, start gathering your masters, and be ready to move out when I give the order.”
He went through everything again with them, before he started to work with Becky on preparing the materials needed for the different formations.
Luckily, he got Becky to help him in that regard. As for everyone else, they left towards Lara’s city, where they planned to turn it into the main base for this grand war.
Time passed and another day ended. Even if William didn’t make an official move, the news regarding the events that happened at the four kingdoms, alongside the grand movements from the Fox Guild, spread all over the continent and world.
All eyes got attracted over that spot of the world. The nearby kingdoms saw a grand chance for them to expand, not paying much heed to any scary news coming about the weird monsters lurking and actively spreading in the four kingdoms.
The different kingdoms saw a grand chance in all this. As any force would see it, having such unstoppable and unpredicted disaster in your home would weaken any kingdom no matter what.
Even if the news about the rising star William and his guild spread over, no nearby kingdom planned to stop. Human greed was something that only grew thicker with more power humans got by being masters.
Yet no one knew for sure why the Fox Guild recalled all their masters to Lara’s city. All they thought of was for William’s futile attempt to save the Novice kingdom, which no one put in their eyes.
No one ever thought about the scary monsters. To them, they considered the tales to be exaggerated, as a way to scare any nearby kingdom to try and intervene.
No one took the stories of these monsters to be true. They simply ignored any intel coming regarding this and focused solely on tracking the current spots of the four kingdoms’ armies, the locations of large gatherings of any masters.
These preparations weren’t just limited to the few kingdoms sharing borders with the devastated four, but it also happened for all other kingdoms in the entire southern continent!
Everyone wanted a piece of the pie, even if they were far away from the devastated four kingdoms. If they couldn’t take part of this grand pie, they would try their best to attack the nearby kingdoms who expected to send armies to attack the devastated four.
Without realising it, the scale of this war escalated fast and was soon about to engulf the entire continent without exception!
There wasn’t a single sane power in the entire continent! No one fought against the temptation to expand and grow their kingdoms even on the cost of raging endless wars for such a useless cause!
William saw all this coming, and he even put plans regarding such a scenario that he saw destined to happen.
Yet William was busy handling the materials while the world was preparing for such unseen before war. If he was concerned about something, then he was worried about Anjie and Fang’s meeting.
He kept waiting for any news coming regarding this, and yet for hours he received nothing. He resisted the urge to stop what he was doing and go to Lara’s city and attend that meeting, but he barely stopped himself every time.
From the side, Becky could tell how anxious William was. At some point, she even advised him to go and check on her, leaving the work over to her. And yet he refused.
They had to do work that normally would take many teams to finish, and in a short window of time. And as a capable leader as he was, he kept working as hard as he could, while keeping his concerns under control.
It wasn’t until the third day that he finally got a message. It wasn’t a message delivered by spirit telepathy, but unexpected to him and Becky, Anjie was the one to deliver this message over.
“Are you ok?!” Seeing her walk in such heavy steps, coming to the hill William and Becky took as the base for their work, made William stop what he was doing, dash towards her before asking.
“Here,” Anjie’s face told him she wasn’t feeling any better. And yet instead of responding to him, she took something out from her ring, handed it over to him.
“What is that?!” William looked at the item she handed over to him, taken aback by what he saw.
“It’s my kingdom’s crown,” Anjie’s voice was getting weaker the more she spoke. She couldn’t continue her words, as tears overpowered her will at this point. And yet before William would move to support her or even say anything, she regained control over herself, wiped the tears, before strongly handing the crown again to him.
“It’s the symbol of power of my kingdom, I learnt from Fang about everything, and so I went over, got it, and brought it over for you to use.”
“You…” William didn’t receive the crown, instead his mind raced with what he didn’t witness. He didn’t know what Fang did, but it seemed he managed to convey more than what was needed, told her everything, and helped her come to this decision.
“Take it…”
“No,” William interrupted her, not just by his kind words, but with a warm embrace. The moment her body got surrounded by his, she lost all resistance and threw herself deeper into him. And without realising it, all the tears, all the sadness she held back exploded, like a flood that broke free from a broken dam.
William didn’t say anything, didn’t do anything but to gently hold her. He let her cry and even stand within his arms without saying or doing anything. The crown at some point fell from her hand, rolled on the ground, and no one of these two even spared it a glance.
