Chapter 1340: Anjie’s Tough Situation
“I won’t send more of our masters out there to die,” Sloth shrugged free from the king, while patting on the king’s shoulder with heavy arm, “make sure the kingdom’s future is safe and sound, don’t repeat the mistake we committed here again. William… It seems he is the right person to lead us from the start, but we were too foolish to cling to old rules and pride to realise it…”

“Sloth…” the king tried to stop his old friend, but Sloth kept walking and never looked back.

“My liege, let me accompany him,” another old master slowly stood up, yet the rejection didn’t come from the king, but from Sloth who was at the door.

“Stay behind, our kingdom will need all the help it can muster,” Sloth paused at the door, took a long look around, as if he was saying goodbye to everything and everyone, “this disaster we brought upon ourselves, upon our people, upon our kingdom, and we’ll need all the help to stop it. I’ll try to buy us as much time as possible, make sure to not let my help be wasted.”

“…”

Before anyone would speak up or try to stop him, Sloth vanished from his spot. He dashed as fast as he could, went towards the closest portal leading to the Janko kingdom.

And just like this, the deeply respected old master of the kingdom, the princess’ mentor, Sloth, lost his life while trying his best to atone for the grave mistakes he committed thanks to his ego and pride.

William didn’t know about any of that until it was already too late. He was totally absorbed in building tons of formations, while news came from different places, relaying the great results that happened from the explosions.

The first to arrive was the news from Lara’s city and his guild’s town. The bombs exploded and left behind two heavens of rich spirit power never seen before. William smiled when he heard about such news, before he relayed his instructions over.

He informed Lara and his guild to start fortifying the areas where it contained the spirit power with tons of formations. He wrote down a list of formations belonging to this world, while intending to do another round himself later to lay down a layer of outer world formations.

He wasn’t worried about any of these sites getting into trouble. After all these places belonged to existing forces, and it wouldn’t be easy to bypass all these masters and break into the rich spirit power places.

The only risky spot was the hills he was working on to defend. So, he saw it was enough for now to lay down the common formations around these spots.

As more good news came, William relayed the same type of orders over. Slowly he started to see something amiss, something that wasn’t supposed to happen. “The kingdom, they didn’t send anyone with any news yet… That’s weird!”

William felt like something bad happened there, and yet as all other places had the same result he anticipated, he calmed down his anxiety. “I’m sure Anjie will make sure these old men will follow my orders, right?”

He shrugged away such worry for now and returned to focus on building the formations. It wasn’t until an entire day passed that he saw Anjie standing in front of him. She took time before knowing where he was. She arrived at Lara’s city ten hours ago, and yet she couldn’t find her easily.

It wasn’t until she went to the guild’s town that she finally received news about where William was. And the moment she learnt about his location, she didn’t delay a second and ran directly towards him.

“What happened?” The moment he laid his eyes on her, he knew for sure that something terrible must have happened. Anjie didn’t look the same as she used to. She didn’t stop running and looking for him since she came to Lara’s city. And that explained the exhausted appearance she had when she came over to him.

But what worried him the most wasn’t how she looked, but the tears that flooded her reddened eyes the moment she reached him. He stopped what he was doing, and asked in deep worry, while she didn’t respond by words.

She simply jumped at his embrace and started crying like a baby in his arms. Seeing her like this made his worst thoughts surface again, and without feeling it, he exuded a deadly aura, one that he never showed except for his sworn enemies.

“Did they use the bombs against my instructions?” This was the thing he asked her, and her silence and shaking were enough as an answer.

“Those damn stupid bastards!” William’s rage stemmed from how they made his girl end up in such suffering. He didn’t need to ask about what happened anymore. He already guessed it and could easily envision the deadly aftermath that resulted from their actions.

What pained him the most was what all this did to his girl, to Anjie. He knew how deep she cherished her kingdom and people. He couldn’t forget how she acted when there was an unknown danger lurking next to the capital, how she risked everything to protect everyone back then and come with him to an unknown world and adventure.

He knew how she held the kingdom and its people high in her heart. She held the responsibility of a king, yet the king and rulers of that kingdom didn’t act as they were supposed to!

William wanted to say tons of stuff, wanted to promise they’d pay a hefty price for what they committed. And yet he didn’t say a single word about any of that.

He didn’t want to hurt Anjie the same way they hurt her. All he could do for now was to comfort her, stand by her side, and be that unshakable pillar she could lean upon.

Just as she was crying in his embrace, out of the blue many silhouettes arrived. William saw Lara, Sara, Berry, Ro, and many others running fast and arriving at him.
