Chapter 1339: The Disaster of the Novice Kingdom
“No sir, it wasn’t an outbreak,” the young master negated such possibility, while shakingly recalling what happened while his tone carried tons of fears, “it was a small group of monsters, but…”
“But what?” This time the king was the one to speak up, while everyone else exchanged silent glances.
“These monsters… They weren’t the normal type of monsters we saw and fought against before… They were… They were unstoppable no matter what we tried to do!”
The young master summed up his courage, raised his head to look at the king’s face directly, “my liege, please, don’t send anyone out there, they’ll all die, they won’t survive no matter what!”
“Enough!” the army leader was the one to shout, silencing the young master, before Sloth intervened, “you may leave, go and attend to your wounds. And…” Sloth stepped closer to the young master, looked him directly in the eye, “keep what happened to yourself, got it?”
“…” the young master didn’t say another word, took his leave without even responding to the clear warning from Sloth.
“What do you say about this situation?” the king moved his eyes between everyone. Just after that young master left, two groups of heavily wounded masters came and informed the council with similar news.
Three kingdoms, away from each other, all had the same incident. All the teams sent by the kingdom got killed, mercilessly slaughtered at the hands of weird monsters.
The survivors couldn’t describe these monsters properly, as what they relayed was something unheard of. The monsters they described weren’t known to this world. It was as if they were speaking about fairy tales or stories from another world.
Yet there was a single point that all stories shared; these monsters were simply unstoppable! No matter how many masters were there, they all got slaughtered at the hands of a few monsters!
No matter how any of these old masters tried to look at this matter, it was simply described as a disaster. No one ever expected such a thing to happen, not when they were this close from taking control over their rivals and establishing their empire!
“I can’t shake this feeling off,” Sloth was the first to speak up, “but something tells me that kid knows what’s going on!”
“William?! How?!” the army leader couldn’t help but blurt it out, “did he frame us or something? Was it a trap to take over our kingdom?”
“Stop it!” a loud voice erupted all of sudden, attracting everyone’s attention. When everyone saw the face of the one who said these words, their faces changed at once, “stop this nonsense and can someone explain to me why you did something against what he told us to do?”
It was Anjie, and from the look on her face, it was clear that she heard the news. She didn’t look happy, with her reddened face and panting breaths, telling everyone that she was terribly mad at them, to the extent she ran all the way to here without having a single moment of rest.
“Father, what did you do?” Anjie came closer, and no one ever dared to speak again. She looked at her father, who evaded her gazes, before she laid her eyes over Sloth, “how could you do that?!”
“It was all for the future of our kingdom…” the army leader was the first to dare to speak up.
“Shut up!” Anjie’s decisive shout made the army leader regret speaking up, “you… You all had one simple task, just one simple thing to do. Why did you let your greed take the best of you? And now what? You brought this disaster upon our people, upon our kingdom, and you dare to tell me it was for the sake of our future? Screw you!”
Anjie’s words were heavy and harsh, yet no one dared to say anything back. She didn’t stop there, instead she told them about how miraculous the other bombs did to the places they detonated at.
“A heaven on earth, that’s what I heard from my spies at other Fox factions! A heaven of a higher form of spirit power! I even heard Fang master comment that such spirit power doesn’t belong to this world, it’s the type of spirit power that exists in the higher realm we all dream of getting into!”
Her words landed like a cold bucket of water over these old masters’ heads. Anjie was fuming with endless rage, feeling like she, her father, and the entire kingdom were all betrayed by the greed of a few men sitting in this hall.
“You know what? I heard that the more bombs one has, the better the quality of the spirit power created by these bombs,” Anjie didn’t stop there, moved her eyes between the old masters in the hall, “William gave us three bombs, the most out of any faction! And see what you did with his kind gesture and apparent favourability to me… You… You ruined everything!”
Her eyes started to swell with tears, and before anyone would say anything, she turned around and started to walk away.
“Anjie, where are you going darling?” the king dared to speak up at last when she started to walk away. He felt grave pain, as he could tell how much pain he caused to his beloved daughter.
“Where else, father?” Anjie’s voice choked while she was trying her best to restrain her tears, “I’m going to my man, I’ll try to find out what happened and how we can save everyone from this disaster.”
She walked away, while leaving behind a deadly silent hall filled with old men. No one dared to say a word after she left, not until a few minutes passed.
“It seems we did something terribly bad this time,” Sloth was the first to speak up. He took a deep sigh, before slowly standing up, “I’ll shoulder the responsibility of such a decision.”
“Where are you going?!” The king feared the worst, even stood up and held his old friend’s shoulder, trying to stop him.
