Chapter 695: A chaotic confrontation in the jungle (part 3)
Despite the number and strength of the enemies in front of them not matching the intel that Sera shared with him, Daimon didn’t doubt the girl from the church of light in the slightest.
The reason is that with his sharp nose, and eyes he could smell the lingering scent of blood in the air, and also see some barely noticeable burning and corrosion marks on the black soil of the forest, around the black water body where those two nethereals used to be sealed.
“Humph, those pirate bastard’s Arch rank energies are just for showing, they don’t “feel” stronger, so their realms didn’t increase by hunting blood specters as they should have”, said the werewolf girl.
Among the presents, in Daimon’s current group, the only one who has crossed from the Lord rank to the Arch rank is Arianna, so she who has gone through the process, can tell that while those pirates might have energies at the Arch rank level, they got no benefits from having achieved it, in other words, they didn’t earn it properly.
It’s worth mentioning that those two Arch rank nethereals who were sealed, were in the same group, they kept those realms but in exchange the possible benefits to fix their lacking areas that would have come from the Blood Prison realm’s rules, didn’t apply to them.
Which is also why, neither Lyn nor Badr bothered to maintain their Arch rank powers, since there were benefits for them to quite literally grab for free, why not take them.
“Well, it’s not hard to know where did those improvement in their realms, came from, considering the missing Lord ranks, the smell of blood in the air and the ritual marks around that black water lake, not to mention that guy is for some reason obsessed with rituals, sacrifices and all that kind of weird stuff”, said Daimon, which made Marcus set off on the spot.
“Hey, what the hell have you been on about since earlier, where the hell is Adam!”, in case you had forgotten, Daimon had gained the ability to see and listen to the interactions between a host and their administrator, so long as the other party is in an agitated state of mind, and he has entered in contact with them before.
So, now that all the conditions were fulfilled, that long black-haired woman with red eyes, noticeably pale skin and black horns, who wore a black dress, and floated around Marcus, in other words his administrator, who unlike Ariel was quite active on the outside, made her appearance once again.
‘I don’t mind if you want to act cranky and all, but if you stay here one more day, then you’ll miss the chance to meet up with your “date”, and there are no more materials nor appropriate locations for a second ritual, so hurry up, unless you want to die that is’, casually said that ghost-like girl administrator.
‘Damn it!!!’, surprisingly after loudly screaming in his mind and looking at his administrator as if he wished nothing more than ripping her to shreds, only to be completely ignored by her, Marcus’s ranting stopped midway as he regained his cool to them coldly say.
“You know what, screw it, I don’t have time to waste with trash, kill those bastards as soon as possible and meet me later after fulfilling your respective tasks”, Marcus then turned around and actually rushed into the distance.
Leaving behind his subordinates who after a second reacted by charging at Daimon and the others, starting with the one who could be considered the individually strongest among them, that giant sea snake blood specter.
“Hsssssss!”, a loud half screeching and half hissing sound came from the snake as it extended its body out of the black water lake, revealing quite an unexpected surprise, as in it actually had another head which was hidden within the lake, which it was using to attack Daimon and Arianna at the same time.
What’s more this “simple” action, made it obvious that this blood specter was way smarter than normal, it targeted Daimon and Arianna, because they were the ones who caused its master to get angry the most.
Unfortunately for the sea snake, who will it fight, wasn’t up to it, but to a certain sky-blue haired girl who with a little tap of her right foot which had a sky-blue energy ring around her ankle, appeared next to the snake.
“Boooom!”, a loud thunder-like explosion echoed through the vicinity, as a blue shockwave impacted the snake’s side directly sending it back into the lake, making a large amount of black water to fly in every direction.
“I originally was only interested in its high energy realm, but I also don’t remember a race like this back then, I wonder what did that guy do to you?”, said Lyn with a curiosity filled voice, as always once she had set her eyes in a subject, she couldn’t help but want to learn more about it.
The snake which emerged from the black water lake a second later, only to show a much more controlled emotional state, dangerously glared at Lyn, the reason for it it’s simple.
“Crack!”, some of the hard scales that protected its body, were now full of cracks, due to Lyn’s attack.
Of course, the snake wasn’t the only one acting, the remaining four enemies, who were all early-stage Arch ranks, namely the two pirates and the two nethereals, also jumped into the fray, but they targeted everyone instead.
“Breaking Thrust!”.
“Mountain Crush!”.
The nethereals were the first ones to act, speaking of which both of them had decently buff builds and were quite tall, so it’s not hard to know that they belong to the Violence faction, also one of them used a heavy war spear, while the other was holding onto a Warhammer.
Not to mention that they actually were quite coordinated, as if they were used to fight together, perhaps since they were sealed in the same black water body, they used some of the many years they have been trapped here, to train with each other, or they simply fought with the other, as a result their attacks were timed so that the piercing martial art was first and then the one with the strongest impact would follow up, this was done with the intention to make sure that at least one target would be gravely wounded on the spot, or at least that was the idea.
“Gate of Protection”, those two nethereals were suddenly blocked by a towering man with a fierce appearance, who got in their way while crossing his arms in front of his chest, projecting a translucent black energy wall.
“Clang!”, the two martial arts landed on the black energy barrier, producing the sounds of metals colliding, but besides making it shake a bit, they couldn’t break through it, what’s more, the tall scarred man, who they actually had to look up to, given the almost a meter difference in height, casually pushed his right palm in their direction, and the black energy wall rushed their way while also dragging the remaining impact of their own martial arts, in their direction.
“Breaking Charge!”.
“Crushing Charge!”.
Since they were taken by surprise at having their own attacks directed their way, those two realized that they couldn’t dodge, without relying in a movement martial art, and if by now you haven’t realized it, yes, they were using martial arts powered with nether battle aura, instead of the energy provided by the Blood Prison realm, not to mention that the weapons in their hands were magic treasures, which aren’t allowed as well.
Anyway, thanks to the previous they managed to get away by the skin of their teeth, and they also acted as a “distraction”, for the remaining enemies to make their entrance, in other words the pirates.
“Tsk, fools, what’s the use of heavy strong attacks if they don’t land, Shredding Rain!”.
“Meatheads like them wouldn’t have survived at the Maelstrom Sea to even reach the Arch rank, Blitz Prison!”.
Unlike the nethereals who were obviously warrior that took pride in their frontal close combat style, these pirates played a different game, their ideal was to survive by all means and so, their fighting styles normally didn’t lean towards direct close quarter combat, but control with feints and peaks of power in order to trick their opponents.
And as a proof of it, they even did something like reverse order for their attacks, in other words while the first pirate, whose hands had scales on them and was using throwing knives, was the first one to call out his attack, the attack from the second pirate, who had fins protruding out of his neck and slightly spiked teeth, while he wielded a spiked metal chain, was the one that manifested first.
Their strategy was simple but actually well thought, the guy with the chain has lightning affinity, probably because his magic beast traits point at some kind of eel race, so he used the chain to catch Badr, while the pirate with the throwing daggers, whose affinity is metal, concentrated an originally wide area spell, in a small spot, ah right, unlike the nethereals those two guys are mages and like them, they are using mana instead of the energy from the challenge, as well as magic weapons.
So, this time, Marcus didn’t discriminate, which made sense, since Daimon’s guess was correct, those two pirates became stronger thanks to the “voluntary sacrifice” of their lower ranked teammates and so as the selected ones to receive such favor, Marcus did properly equip them, whether he did it out of his own choice or because there wasn’t any better option, remained a mystery though.
Even so, their teamwork was quite good, the chain wielding pirate even made his attack which was actually lacking in terms of power as its focus was to restrain the target, flashier by adding multiple electric arcs to it, in order to draw attention towards it, so that the actual damage which was the spell of the other guy, could properly land.
Had it not been for the fact, that the one who intercepted them couldn’t be fooled by such tricks, unless she wanted to take an extra hellish dose of intense “training” by her battle maniac master.
“Awooo!”, with great fighting spirit, a towering red energy wolf suddenly got in the way of those two attacks, using its mouth to bite the electrified spiked chain, while it slashed its right claws at the multiple metal mana cladded knives coming its way.
“Boooom!”, both the lightning mana contained in the chain as well as the strongly reinforced knives, released its power, causing a loud explosion, accompanied by an energy clash, which resulted in a tie, as both the red energy out of which the wolf was conformed, as well as the metal and lightning mana from the enemies, were equally forced backwards.
“You guys aren’t much better than them, though I do admit that your battle prowess is indeed not as lacking as I thought it was going to be”, casually said a girl with red colored wolf ears, tail and hair, who came out of the energy explosion the next second.
Naturally, even if it was a “tie”, they were two early-stage Arch rank ones, against a single one, not to mention that their opponent was a young girl too, so being directly looked down like that, of course made those two see red, however their snapped out of their anger, before they couldn’t even express it, because they quickly caught on the fact that one of the four targets, namely the masked silver haired youth who insulted their master the most, was missing.
“Damn it, don’t tell me that… ack!”, the pirates directly tried to turn around and look for Daimon who had taken advantage of the chaos produced by the initial clash of the two sides to calmly slip away in order to go chase after his respective opponent, but were directly locked down by a giant red energy wolf which pounced on them from below, tossing the pirate with the knives backwards with its right paw.
“Rigle!”, the electric eel guy saw the giant red wolf open its jaws in order to bite down his teammate, who was distracted even for a fraction of a second, after being hit by the wolf’s right paw and directly used his electrified chain to hold onto the left hind leg of the wolf, barley managing to change its course, missing the pirate with the knives by the skin of his teeth.
“Let’s focus on killing this bitch first, in any case that masked bastard is just rushing towards his death, with the enemy’s head as an “offering” I bet the Lord will not punish us”, said the guy with the chain as he appeared next to his companion.
“Deal!”, after the previous dangerous experience, the knife wielding pirate was angered due to embarrassment, he only lost his concentration for a fraction of a second and nearly lost one of his arms due to it, to an enemy at the same level as him.
‘Damn bitch, trying to look all high and mighty, I bet that freaking wolf is being manifested through a magic treasure given by the enemy of the Lord!’, thought the pirate.
To which Arianna simply snorted, in any case she had fulfilled the task given by Daimon, to create an opening, not because he couldn’t just work together with Arianna and the others to then encircle Marcus alongside them, which was actually Daimon’s original idea.
Sure, only he was going to directly confront Marcus, because system user, but the others would be helpful to prevent him from escaping if it came to that, however the black sea emblem protested against that, apparently being in a 1v1 against Marcus was an important part of his challenge, so the plan was adjusted to that.
In any case, it was not a good idea to give Marcus time to put much distance between them, so Daimon outright went after him the moment Arianna fulfilled his request to create a distraction.
…
Changing our point of view to Marcus one, the moment he departed, he directly started using a movement spell in order to flash through the jungle at quite the decently high speed, only to suddenly curse out loud.
“Useless damn bastards!”, why did he suddenly go off you ask, well, that’s because Lezabel, in other words his administrator, casually told him that he was being tailed and that the pursuer was going to catch up to him even before leaving the jungle.
In other words, after going through the trouble of even giving magic treasures and increasing the realms of his subordinates, they couldn’t prevent one “rat” from sneaking away to come and make him waste his valuable time.
“What are you waiting for, do your damn job and rip that bastard to shreds!”, shouted Marcus, at seemingly “nothing”, until you realized that he actually was talking to one of the random trees he bypassed.
What followed was that a few hundreds of kilometers away, Daimon who was flashing through the jungle while chasing after Marcus, found himself targeted by all the branches of the trees in his vicinity.
But contrary to what one would expect, not only Daimon didn’t stop nor try to avoid the incoming attacks, but he actually didn’t even deploy his silver energy to protect his body and or intimidate the trees, why you might wonder, well, based on his knowledge of the speed of a certain alfear princess, Daimon just hit the calculated period of time, that it should have taken Tessa to reach her target.
And as he expected, the thorned branches which were a few meters from reaching him, suddenly stopped in cold to then instantly retreat back to the respective trees from which they came, something that didn’t escape Marcus’s eyes.
“What!”, needless to say but the devil guy nearly lost it on the spot.
‘Pfft, looks like the other party actually found some useful people, unlike a certain someone’, disdainfully said the ghost girl administrator, which made Marcus grit his teeth to then retort.
“Fine, have it your way you bitch, I just have to fucking kill everyone at the end of the day!”, he screamed as he stopped running to then wait for Daimon to catch up to him, it’s worth mentioning that they had reached the periphery of the jungle, and the next area was within sight.
And it was quite an interesting one by the way, as in there was a volcanic area outside of the jungle, though it looked a bit strange, however neither Marcus nor Daimon focused on that as of current.
“I have to give it to you, I never imagined that Adam would actually manage to obtain a decent subordinate, that it’s not a woman, perhaps he promised you a whole bunch of rewards knowing full well that you wouldn’t be alive to claim them, typical hero slave”, said Marcus as he faced Daimon, who smirked behind his mask.
“Big words for someone who has been doing his utmost to avoid Ereth, waiting until Adam arrived to go deal with him as a team”, casually said Daimon, which made the devil system user frown.
“I see, so that’s why you are actually managing to be a thorn on my side, that fool told you about matters of our “kind”, right… and now you came here with confidence that just because of influence from Adam you can fight against me, idiot, even Adam isn’t sure of winning so what does a mere dog of his, amount to in front of me!”.
Black metal clawed armored gauntlets appeared on Marcus’s arms, as he charged towards Daimon, to then slash with his right hand at him, only for his clawed gauntlet to be met by Daimon’s bare first which was cladded in silver light.
“Booom!”, a loud explosion echoed through the air, despite Marcus being a mage, his physical strength was nothing to look down upon, even without using mana to reinforce himself, he could measure up to a Lord ranked knight in terms of physical offense, as of current, probably a racial trait since he isn’t a human, but someone from the devil races.
“Hssssss!”, immediately after the initial clash, smoke and a sizzling sound followed, which made Marcus already imagine the sight of the enemy’s energy as well as his flesh being melted away by mere contact against his promise level treasure, only for him to return to the real world when a puncturing pain travelled through his hand.
Marcus immediately reacted by breaking the stalemate, and retreating a couple of meters, he took a look at his right hand, and was weirded out by the fact that his gauntlets were perfectly fine, there wasn’t even a crack in them, what’s more despite the opponent being able to take his attack head on, he didn’t feel any strong impact coming from it.
In other words, the masked silver haired youth in front of him, wasn’t an offense type combatant, so he couldn’t help but wonder, where the hell was the pain from earlier coming.
‘Don’t fucking tell me…’, unable to contain his doubts, Marcus took out his right gauntlet, and his mind went blank for a second, there was a though light, horribly painful burning mark on the back of his hand.
In other words, the enemy’s energy bypassed his black gauntlets, which though restrained due to the rules of this place, it’s still a promise level treasure and directly caused him damage, on the first encounter.
