Chapter 489: The Fear of World [2]
[Head Base of the Three Gods Church]
[Kandam Continent]
“Urgh.”
I let out a soft groan as I was jolted awake from my sleep.
Blinking my eyes, I stared blankly at the ceiling for a long second.
It was an unfamiliar ceiling… yet familiar as I have been seeing it for the last two months.
Turning my head to my side, I found the place empty.
‘….Where did she go?’
I wondered, pushing myself up from the bed.
Wearing nothing but shorts, I began to walk out of the room into the hallway of the mansion.
The same one that I got after dealing with the Church’s problem.
[<Good morning>]
Inna’s voice echoed in my head, which made me smile gently.
“Morning.”
I spoke softly as I kept on walking.
The hallway was quiet, only the faint creaks of the old wooden floor following my steps.
Soft rays of morning light slipped through the tall windows, painting the walls in gold.
[<You didn’t sleep well again, did you?>]
Inna’s voice was calm, almost teasing.
I rubbed the back of my neck. “You already know the answer.”
[<Hmm… Qais—>]
‘I’m fine, don’t worry.’
It’s been more than two months since the incident that happened in Tamrial Kingdom.
I can’t say that the world has settled down as I hear about it almost every day.
….How a monster was born.
Most of it is more like propaganda that the higher-ups of this continent are spitting.
[<The same day Watchers descended the world.>]
‘….’
I know what she is trying to hint at, but I don’t care enough about what they are doing.
The aroma of freshly baked bread made me slow down my steps.
I reached the kitchen, leaning on the doorstep.
A young woman wearing an apron over her nightdress was busy frying fish.
Her long red hair fell freely behind her back as it bounced around with her every move.
She hadn’t noticed me yet, too focused on her cooking.
“…You’re up early,” I said, walking towards her.
The girl flinched slightly before glancing over her shoulder.
Her golden eyes met mine, and a faint smile curved on her lips.
“You scared me,” she said, chuckling lightly. “Don’t do that.”
I stood by her side as I looked at Nymeria. “…you don’t have to—.”
“I want to learn cooking.” She cut me off. “…That’s the least I could do for you.”
I reached out as I gently touched the mark on her face.
Nymeria didn’t move back like the first time as she just smiled.
“….Thank you.” I spoke, cherishing her face.
She looked down for a second, her cheeks turning faintly red.
“You always say that,” she murmured, flipping the fish in the pan. “I should be the one thanking you.”
The smell of cooked fish filled the air, warm and comforting.
[<She’s getting better at this.>]
‘Yeah,’ I replied, watching her move. ‘Much better than when she burned water.’
[<That was impressive, though.>]
I smiled faintly.
Nymeria noticed and frowned. “You’re thinking something rude again, aren’t you?”
“Maybe.”
She sighed, pretending to be annoyed. “Get ready, you are going to be late again.”
“…Yeah.” I mumbled, stretching my body. “I should.”
Before going to the bathroom, I hugged her gently from behind.
Her response was immediate as she leaned her body on me, closing her eyes.
I remained like that for a long while before I gently let go.
She turned her head slightly, her voice soft. “I needed that.”
I smiled before I turned around. “So do I.”
[<You two are disgustingly cute.>]
‘Jealous?’
[<Please.>], Inna’s tone dripped with sarcasm. [<I am too old for this.>]
After a quick shower, I dried off and put on a plain dress.
My hair was still damp when I returned to the kitchen.
Nymeria was already setting the table. “You’re fast,” she said without looking up.
“I had motivation,” I replied, sitting down.
She placed the plate in front of me—a neatly fried fish with warm bread on the side.
She then took out a spoonful of fish and placed it close to my mouth.
“Not bad.” I mumbled after taking the first bite.
Her cooking had improved.
Her eyes sparkled a little. “Here, take another one.”
I have been eating from her hand for almost a month.
Though she was uncomfortable at the start, I am glad I requested it.
[<You like to be spoiled.>]
‘….I am not going to deny that.’
As I finished the meal and had the water, Nymeria sat opposite me, resting her chin on her hand.
I stood up, pushing the chair back. “I’ll be back before noon.”
She got up and walked closer, holding out her hand to fix my collar.
I leaned slightly so she could reach.
I looked down at her golden eyes, unable to find words for a second.
She smiled faintly, stepping back. “Go, you are going to be late.”
As I walked toward the front door, Nymeria’s voice followed me softly—
“Be careful, Himmel.”
“I always am.”
The heavy wooden door creaked open, letting in the pale morning light.
I floated in the air as soon as I got out of the mansion.
With one glance, I made sure that the place was safe before I moved forward.
It only took me a few seconds to reach the teleportation portal that would lead me to my destination.
But there was someone familiar standing on the side.
“Parth.”
I spoke, making the young man flinch in surprise.
“Sir Himmel.” He spoke, his voice fearful yet filled with respect. “..I..I was waiting for you.”
I nodded as I walked towards him.
He was wearing the clothes of the trainee priest of Elyon’s church.
His hands were sweaty as he stole glances at my face.
“Is my work done?” I asked him.
Parth nodded as he bowed and pushed forward a space ring.
“Everything that you asked is inside.” He spoke. “…I used the church network to find them all.”
I nodded as I took the ring from him before inspecting it myself.
It only took me a few seconds to confirm that everything was there.
‘…Inna.’
[<That’s all we will need.>]
I let out a sigh of relief as I patted the young man’s shoulder.
“Thanks, Parth.” I spoke with a smile. “I don’t know how long it would have taken to find it all by myself.”
“No problem at all, sir.” He replied, shaking his head. “I am glad to be of any help.”
I smiled faintly at his words before pulling my hand back. “You did well. Go get some rest.”
Parth nodded quickly, bowing once more before hurrying away down the path.
[<You’ve been gathering these things for weeks.>]
‘Yeah.’ I looked down at the ring in my palm. ‘It’s almost time.’
[<You sound calm about it.>]
‘Because I have to be.’
I stepped into the circle, placing my hand over the rune at its center.
The symbols flared to life, wrapping me in soft blue light.
—
When I opened my eyes, I was in a different place than before.
With huge buildings that were interconnected all around me.
The EEA Academy.
I began to walk, finding my way unlike how I was lost the first time.
The campus was bustling with activity, but the atmosphere had changed from when I first arrived.
Instead of milling around and chatting, the students I saw were all focused on preparing for classes.
Most were either sparring or exercising, but there were also quite a few students reading quietly in the fresh air.
I wore a disguise to keep my identity hidden, but that didn’t stop people from greeting me politely.
It was the same for all, teachers and students alike.
They all greeted with bright smiles…. especially the girls.
‘…Maybe I should have gone with an uglier face.’
[<I wouldn’t have talked to you if you did that.>]
‘….’
I ignored her as I kept on walking towards the class.
It took me a few minutes, but I reached the class.
Sliding the door, I walked inside as the entire class quieted down.
As I arrived at the teacher’s desk, I found a few letters already placed on it.
[<Oh, Love Letters.>]
“…..”
I swear these fucking kids.
This is the first time I am entering this class, for fuck’s sake.
Calming myself down, I picked up the letters and burned them in front of the class.
I could hear a few gasps which I chose to ignore.
Standing on the desk, I gave the class a quick scan.
Immediately I found a few familiar faces from the game.
Like the Adon’s Avatar and…. Ragnar’s daughter.
I ignored them for now as I cleared my throat.
“It’s my first class with you guys, so I will introduce myself again.”
I looked at them while keeping my voice serious.
“My name is Professor Azrael.” My voice echoed. “I will teach you how mana works.”
