Chapter 488: The Fear of World [1]
[Two Months Later.]

[Unknown Island, Kandam Continent.]

Elijah hummed softly as he prepared the breakfast for his family.

The place that was once made to detain his mother was now his new home.

And despite the emptiness of a mother’s love all his childhood… Elijah was content with his life.

Elijah fixed his long red hair as he massaged his lower back.

His well-built body along with his toned form made him look handsome.

When the sizzling of the egg stopped, Elijah put the food on the plates as he moved them out.

Outside, in the main hall, two women were already sitting, waiting for the food.

“I am so glad that you want to make food for us,” Poney—his mother said with a sulking voice. “But I should be the one feeding you.”

Elijah smiled gently.

“It’s fine.” He placed the food down. “I just wanted to help.”

Poney touched her child’s face with her working hand. “Thank you for that.”

Elijah smiled, accepting her love that he always wanted.

“Ahem!”

A fake cough interrupted the moment between them.

Heather, who sat along with them, abruptly stood up.

The princess of werewolves had an irritated look on her face.

“Does anyone want to see the news?” She said, giving a side glare to Elijah’s mother.

She switched on the TV, grabbed Elijah’s shirt, and threw it on his face.

Elijah wore the shirt as his gaze shifted toward the channel.

“—You don’t understand!”

A voice echoed as a man with a white beard argued with the news anchor.

“The thing that happened with elves and Demiurges can happen to any of us.”

Elijah quietly sat on his chair as he looked at the news that had been going on for two whole months.

The white-bearded man was the head priest of Elyon’s church.

The priest’s voice trembled with frustration as he slammed his fist on the desk.

“That boy is the devil’s child, he is going to be responsible for the end of this world.”

The anchor quickly tried to calm the situation, smiling nervously at the camera.

“Father Rovan, please, let’s not jump to conclusions—.”

“He killed two demigods!” Rovan snapped again. “He alone is shifting the power balance of this world.”

Heather sighed, grabbing a piece of toast from the plate. “Here we go again,” she muttered, taking a bite.

Poney frowned, turning down the volume slightly. “That man always talks like this, like he is paid to do it.”

Elijah stayed quiet, his eyes fixed on the screen.

The words ‘World Tree’ and ‘Hell Gate’ weren’t new to him.

He’d heard them too many times lately.

The priest turned to look directly at the camera.

“The world should fear him,” he spoke with utmost seriousness. “The entire world should stand against that monste—.”

Elijah closed the TV as he silently ate his lunch.

Heather noticed his silence and rolled her eyes. “The world is overreacting, it’s not a big deal—.”

“Killing two demigods while barely being an Eternal is a big deal.” Elijah cut off her words. “He is right. The world should fear him.”

Despite his words, Elijah had a lingering worry on his face that she noticed as well.

“Don’t worry about him,” Heather replied, crossing her arms. “Not like anyone can hurt him now.”

“But they can try,” Elijah said softly. “Many of the organizations have put a bounty on his head.”

Heather gave him a curious look. “How much?”

Elijah glanced up at her. “Enough to buy an entire kingdom.”

Heather froze mid-bite, her toast slipping slightly from her fingers.

“An entire kingdom?” she repeated, half in disbelief, half impressed.

Elijah nodded quietly.

Poney’s smile faded. “How cruel…” she whispered, lowering her fork. “After all that child has gone through.”

Heather leaned back in her chair. “Where is he now?”

“I don’t know,” Elijah responded, shaking his head.

Heather narrowed her eyes, but she didn’t press.

Heather’s ears twitched slightly, catching something in the distance. “You say that, but…”

She stood up, her expression shifting. “Someone’s here.”

Elijah’s gaze snapped toward the front gate. He could feel it too.

Poney frowned. “Are we expecting guests?”

Elijah shook his head slowly. “No.” He walked towards the door. “Stay here.”

Elijah stood up as he walked outside of the house.

The faint scent of the sea moved with the gentle breeze as he looked around.

Elijah sniffed but quickly got his composure back.

Slowly he began to walk towards the seashore.

The feeling of someone watching him grew even more.

Until—.

“How have you been, my son?”

A voice echoed within the place.

Elijah looked up as he found ‘him.’

A man floated in the air with a vibrant hue of platinum, a face that should only belong to a fallen angel.

Deceiving yet incredibly beautiful to the point one might think of him as flawless.

What stood out the most were his deep grey eyes that seemed like a void.

“…. Jones,” Elijah spoke as he brought out his weapon.

But his father found it funny as he chuckled softly.

“You can’t kill me, boy,” he spoke confidently as he slowly moved down. “…Not in this lifetime.”

“….”

Elijah remained silent as he kept on staring at the man.

Jones opened his arms wide. “Aren’t you gonna hug me?”

“…Why are you here?” Elijah asked, hiding his panic behind his cold expression.

Jones smiled faintly, almost tenderly—though the malice beneath it was impossible to miss.

“Can’t a father visit his family?” he said, his tone light, but his presence felt heavy enough to crush the air itself.

Elijah gripped his weapon tighter. “Go away.”

Jones sighed, tilting his head slightly. “Still so dramatic. You get that from your mother.”

At the mention of Poney, Elijah’s jaw clenched. “Don’t talk about her.”

“Why not?” Jones asked softly. “You know I came all the way here just to warn you.”

Elijah frowned, keeping his guard up. “What are you—.”

“The Aljanahs will kill your family,” he spoke with utmost seriousness. “…They will take away Heather and your mother from you.”

Elijah remained stunned as he kept on staring at him without any words.

“Mark my words,” he spoke, turning around. “You are going to lose everything very soon.”

—

[Vestro Village, Kandam Continent.]

In the unknown village that had been neglected for years,

A silent disease spread through the place.

A disease that could have killed every last one of its residents.

But it didn’t happen….

…. Because an angel graced them with her presence.

“Thank you, my lady.”

An old man on his knees bowed his head as he spoke in a trembling voice.

“I..I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t arrived here.”

The young woman who stood in front of him smiled gently.

Her long golden hair flowed freely behind her, touching the back of her knees.

The golden eyes of hers looked at the man as she gently spoke. “Please stand up.”

The old man trembled but didn’t dare to refuse her words.

When he looked up, he remained stunned at her beauty.

The pure gentle smile on her face, accompanied by the halo over her head, made her nothing less than an angel.

Ashlyn spoke softly.

“Everything is fine.”

Her voice echoed through the kneeling villagers.

“You all are fine and will live a long life.”

The villagers looked at each other with tears in their eyes.

Ashlyn smiled faintly, watching the hope return to their faces.

It was a sight she cherished… yet one that weighed heavy on her heart.

It had almost been a year since she started doing this work.

To help those in need and… to be just like ‘him.’

Ashlyn didn’t let the past affect her mood as she began to walk away.

On the outskirts of the village, there was an entire troop of church paladins waiting for her.

A young man in his twenties wearing white armor quickly walked forward. “Lady Ashlyn.”

Ashlyn smiled politely. “We are ready to move, Sir Darwin.”

The man nodded, smiling brightly. “As you say, I will get the carriages ready for the next place.”

Ashlyn nodded her head as she watched him walk away.

“He likes you.”

A voice made her glance back as she found a woman with short grey hair standing beside her.

She wore a suit that didn’t fit well with the place.

Ashlyn nodded at the words of her assistant. “I know, Neoma.”

Neoma quickly took out her copy as she replied. “Do you want me to fix a date—.”

“No.” She replied coldly. “Don’t overstep your boundaries.”

Neoma quickly bowed. “I apologize.”

Ashlyn just nodded as she began to walk. “There is a heavy burden on me,” she spoke softly. “I can’t move forward unless I can fix it.”

Neoma nodded as she had heard of it before.

“How is your dream going?” She asked carefully. “Are you still seeing Gabriel’s memories?”

“….Yes,” she spoke gently. “…Well, not quite.”

Neoma tilted her head. “Did something happen?”

“….It’s just.” Ashlyn hesitated before sighing. “It seems like Gabriel used to stalk someone all her time.”

Neoma frowned. “…Who?”

Ashlyn didn’t speak at first.

Her mind remembered the man whom she had seen.

“…Another Angel,” she spoke softly. “A weird Angel.”

Neoma blinked in confusion. “A weird angel?” she repeated. “What do you mean by that?”

Ashlyn’s steps slowed as she stared toward the fading village behind them.

The villagers were still waving, still smiling as if she had given them hope that would never die.

“He didn’t act like an angel,” Ashlyn said finally, her golden eyes dimming slightly. “Gabriel used to watch him from afar. She once said his light felt… wrong.”

Neoma tilted her head. “Wrong how?”

Ashlyn’s voice lowered to a whisper. “Like his light wasn’t blessed… but cursed.”

Neoma frowned, scribbling notes in her little book. “A cursed angel… that doesn’t sound real. Maybe Gabriel just—”

“No.” Ashlyn interrupted, her tone sharp for the first time. “She was afraid of him.”

After a moment, Neoma spoke again, softly. “…By the way, did you hear the news circulating within the church?”

Ashlyn turned to look at her as she nodded. “…Yes.”

Neoma swallowed hard. “I..is it true?”

“Yes,” Ashlyn responded, looking up at the sky. “A total of two hundred angels descended two months ago.”

She exhaled a deep sigh. “…The Watchers are here.”
