Chapter 190: Griffin Ball
“Blood Griffins! Hold your ground!” someone from the front shouted.
Grimm grinned.
His blood boiled with excitement as he spun his spear in his hand.
“Heh, finally,” he muttered. “It’s time to go wild…”
But before he could charge, someone from the Supreme Guild stepped forward, raising his hand sharply.
“Halt!” he barked. “Your goal here is to observe, not interfere. You’re not meant to attack.”
He gestured toward the nearest Griffin. “You don’t even have strong enough spells to—”
“Shut up.”
Lucius said, his voice sounded unimpressed.
The man froze mid-sentence, his expression twisting into shock as Lucius turned toward him.
Lucius didn’t waste more time arguing.
He looked toward his squad. “Prepare to move out. Keep yourselves safe and handle as many as possible.”
There was no hesitation.
“Yes, Boss!” they chorused, and immediately scattered into their formations.
The Supreme Guild member clicked his tongue, glaring at Lucius’s back.
“Reckless fools…” he muttered before turning to retreat in another direction.
Lucius ignored him.
He turned to Luna who was standing beside him.
“Join them and protect yourself,” he said firmly.
“But I can—” Luna began, her lips parting as her eyes darted toward the incoming Griffins.
“Go.”
His tone left no room for debate.
The repulsers on her boots flared with light, and she sighed before nodding. “Please take care of yourself…”
With that, she launched herself into the air, streaking forward to join the others in the chaos.
Lucius looked up.
The first Griffin was already descending… its wings tearing the air apart, it also had massive talons ready to rip anything that moved.
Dozens more were pouring out of the sky behind it. The battlefield below looked like a miniature war zone.
He was about to use Spatial Distortion when something strange happened.
The Griffin suddenly spasmed mid-air.
Its body twisted unnaturally and the muscles on its neck shook before collapsing in on themselves.
Within seconds, the creature imploded into a burst of red mist.
Lucius blinked.
The blood in the air began swirling, forming into a sphere.
Vanessa clapped her hands together.
“Blood Divergence.”
The sphere shot outward, splitting into countless thin beams of scarlet light that zipped through the air at bullet speed.
The beams tore through the skulls of the other Griffins, killing them instantly.
Their bodies folded in on themselves, breaking apart into blood, and the crimson liquid rushed back toward Vanessa like a living tide.
Lucius turned to her, raising an eyebrow.
Vanessa smiled.
“You can attack them now,” she said playfully, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear. “I’ll be watching your back.”
‘I’ll just remain stationary since I still have that buttplug in my ass.’ She thought.
Lucius felt his heart skip once.
That smile could have ended wars.
He looked away before he did something stupid.
A wave of wind suddenly slammed into them.
Superior Man appeared in front of them, his massive arm swung forward like a hammer.
The air around his fist exploded as he struck one of the Griffins straight in the face, sending it spiraling backward through the air.
The impact was so strong that it collided with three other Griffins mid-flight, sending them all crashing into the ground.
Vanessa’s eyes narrowed. Without wasting time, she extended her hand and unleashed another surge of blood energy.
The crimson tide raced forward, engulfing the fallen Griffins and turning their corpses into liquid that flew back toward her.
Her reserves grew stronger with every kill.
Lucius scanned the battlefield. More Griffins filled the air… a lot of them but no new monsters were emerging from the tower.
It seemed the dungeon was exhausting its first floor.
The last of the Griffins let out a blood-curdling shriek as it climbed higher into the crimson sky.
“If you’re using spells, avoid hitting the tower!” Superior Man shouted and took a deep breath. “We’ll need it intact to reach the next floor!”
He punched the air again, the force of the wind alone slicing a Griffin in half mid-flight.
Rita, the Saintess, stepped forward next.
Her staff glowed as she focused upward. The holy light surrounding her pulsed brighter, wrapping around her body and illuminating her pink hair.
Her eyes began to shine with divine energy.
“…Jacob’s Ladder!”
The sky lit up with holy light. Golden energy spiraled above, and then, out of nowhere, a gigantic ladder of radiant power descended from the heavens.
The ladder touched the clouds and extended toward the ground… and its rungs burned with sacred fire.
The Griffins that flew near it screamed. Their flesh peeled away and their wings turned to ash.
Some tried to dive out of the way, but the holy light reached them first, incinerating everything it touched.
The Saintess’s voice rang out again. “Blow.”
The ladder exploded into blinding brilliance.
The red sky turned pure white for a moment, and every Griffin caught within that light was vaporized instantly.
Those too close to the air were burned away before they could flee.
When the light faded, the only remaining creatures were a handful of stragglers fighting close to the ground.
Lucius whistled lowly.
“Guess I didn’t even have to do anything,” he muttered under his breath.
He turned his gaze toward his squad.
They were further ahead, engaged in battle with one of the remaining Griffins. ‘Let’s give them a little boost,’ he thought, narrowing his eyes.
A subtle ripple of space energy spread outward from his body, wrapping around the squad members like a protective field.
…
Grimm was tired of this.
He dodged a spray of red bile that hissed through the air and melted a patch of dirt where he had just been standing.
“Why do these monsters spit so much?” he muttered, shaking his head.
The Griffin before him was huge… larger than the ones in the air.
Its feathers looked like shards of glass.
Raven was standing to Grimm’s right, his hands burning with orange light as he exhaled a stream of fire toward the Griffin’s face.
But the flames didn’t even singe its skin.
“Tch,” Raven clicked his tongue.
Trisha was crouched at a distance, her gun firing in rapid bursts.
The bullets pierced the air but barely scratched the Griffin’s hide. Each shot ricocheted off, bouncing harmlessly into the dirt.
‘It’s too strong,’ Luna thought from her position behind them. Her suit’s sensors were analyzing the creature’s structure. ‘Its hide can’t be pierced with standard heat output. I’d need at least a hundredfold increase… that’ll take minutes to gather.’
Cyrus stood protectively in front of Felix and was trying to draw mana into his blade.
Then suddenly, they all felt it… the burst of foreign energy that surrounded their bodies like a wave.
Grimm looked at his hands. Space energy glowed around him, wrapping him in translucent rings.
‘Boss is helping,’ he realized instantly.
He looked back toward where Lucius was standing far away. Lucius met his gaze, his hand drawn back into a tight fist.
Grimm understood the assignment.
“Raven!” Grimm shouted. “Prepare yourself!”
Raven grinned understanding immediately.
Grimm’s boots slammed against the ground as he shot forward, leaving cracks behind him.
The Griffin turned toward him, screeching as it swung its claws. Grimm ducked beneath it, the wind from its strike blowing past his head.
Trisha’s bullets suddenly started piercing its wings, the reinforced energy in them cutting through flesh this time.
Blood sprayed across the dirt as the Griffin staggered.
Grimm leapt into the air, spinning mid-flight before planting both feet against the creature’s stomach.
The impact produced a cracking sound, knocking the air out of the Griffin’s lungs.
The beast howled as it was sent flying backward toward Raven.
“Punch it back!” Grimm shouted.
Raven cracked his knuckles. “With pleasure.”
As the Griffin hurtled toward him, he swung his arm, flames bursting from his elbow as his fist collided with its jaw.
The bones cracked audibly, and the force of the blow sent the creature soaring back toward Grimm again.
Grimm laughed, twisting his body mid-air to deliver a spinning kick that slammed into the Griffin’s back, sending it flying like a massive ball straight back at Raven.
