Alexia was in a guest room now, and she was sporting a change of clothes.

Lucius had lent her one of his shirts earlier that evening, and wearing it now, she finally realized how big he truly was compared to her.

Every door along the corridor was shut.

She stepped out, closing her door behind her without a sound.

The staircase was long, spiraling gracefully down toward the second floor. She moved one step at a time, gripping the rail.

Then, as she reached the second floor, a shadow appeared.

Alexia froze.

Someone was walking toward her.

She was short and it only took a few seconds for her to realize who it was.

“Hey, Villy,” she whispered, forcing a calm smile.

The dwarf woman rubbed her eyes, her short hair was very messy. “Oh, Alexia… you scared me. Why are you up?”

“I could ask you the same thing.”

“I just woke up,” Villy mumbled, stretching. “Looking for the restroom.”

“It’s the first door by the staircase,” Alexia said quickly, pointing at it.

“Thanks.” Villy turned that way with a yawn.

But before she entered, she glanced back. “Wait, what about you?”

“I… couldn’t sleep,” Alexia said, her tone light. “Needed to walk around a bit.”

“Ah, I get that.” Villy nodded and waved before running over to the restroom door, she closed the distance in seconds and opened the door. “Goodnight.”

Alexia didn’t breathe until the door shut behind her.

‘Thank the goddess. That was close.’

She turned toward the other side of the hall and continued her quiet walk until she reached Lucius’s room.

His door was closed, but light shone from underneath.

Her heartbeat grew louder. ‘He’s still awake.’

She turned the handle slowly, opening it just enough to step through. The door clicked shut behind her, and the cool air from inside the room hit her immediately.

Her eyes landed on him.

Lucius was sitting by his desk with glasses perched on his nose, tapping something into his computer.

The glow from the screen reflected on his face, outlining the sharp curve of his jaw and the slight movement of his lips as he muttered something under his breath.

‘The nerd look fits him so well… the fuck.’

He must’ve heard her footsteps, because he looked up.

“Oh, welcome, Alexia.” He leaned back in his chair.

“Sorry if I’m disturbing you,” Alexia said, trying not to sound nervous.

“Nah, there’s no problem.” Lucius said, “I wasn’t even that busy. Since Luna needs to expand, I was looking at a big place for her to move her business to.”
