Chapter 150: Trapped In Snow [II]
Luna blushed… she really wanted Trisha not to do it, but if Lucius died because of this small issue, she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself.
Her heart thudded painfully in her chest as she stared at his still body.
His skin was pale and his breathing was slow.
Every rise of his chest felt slower than the last.
The man who always looked untouchable, who stood like the center of gravity in every room, now lay motionless… like a fragile vase.
“You’re free to,” Luna said quietly, forcing the words out even as her voice trembled.
She sat down beside him and held his hand tightly, her thumb tracing slow circles across his knuckles.
She really needed to cuddle right about now… anything to chase away the fear clawing up her chest.
But more than that, she was terrified.
Terrified that if she let go, he’d slip away forever.
Trisha looked just as nervous.
Her hands shook slightly as she stared at Lucius’s face.
“A-al-alright,” she stuttered, swallowing hard. “We need you, Boss…”
She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. She’d done plenty of first-aid work before awakening… this wasn’t any different… except that it was.
Her heart was hammering and her lips were tingling with mana… plus the fact that she was about to kiss her unconscious superior didn’t exactly make it easier.
“Just a transfer,” she muttered to herself. “Just a mana transfer…”
She circulated her mana into her lips until a faint turquoise light shimmered around them, then leaned forward slowly.
Her cheeks flushed bright pink, the glow reflecting against her skin.
“Are you sure Boss will lik—”
Before she could finish, Erika who had clearly lost all patience pressed Trisha’s head down.
“Just do it already!”
Trisha’s lips crashed softly onto Lucius’s, and the sound of Luna’s sharp inhale filled the cave.
Erika’s hand remained on Trisha’s head, holding her in place.
Even though the woman wanted to be in Trisha’s shoes herself, she understood that if Lucius died now, they were finished.
The mana transfer began almost instantly.
Trisha’s mana pulsed gently into Lucius’s waiting mouth like a glowing stream of warmth.
His body, still burning from mana depletion, began to react.
Trisha closed her eyes, she could hear her heart pounding in her ears.
His lips were softer than she imagined, and for a split second, she forgot she was saving his life.
Her face burned crimson as she forced herself to focus.
Gradually, the burning under his skin began to fade.
And finally… he took a deep, full breath… the first real one in minutes.
Then his heart kicked back into rhythm.
Luna felt it.
She gasped when his fingers twitched slightly.
“Come on…” she whispered, tears threatening to spill.
Trisha felt his breath catch under her lips, then suddenly…
Lucius’s eyes snapped open.
The movement startled her so badly that she jerked backward, a small gasp escaping her lips.
Their connection broke with a faint pop of mana, leaving a brief trail of turquoise light between them.
Trisha blinked rapidly, her whole face flushed. “W-welcome back to the world of the living, Boss,” she said, forcing an awkward smile.
Lucius blinked, eyes adjusting to the dim cave light. His entire body felt like it had been dipped in fire and ice all at once.
He coughed once, trying to orient himself.
“Thanks… brown hair…” he said hoarsely.
“It’s Trisha,” she muttered, cheeks puffed slightly in annoyance. Though she didn’t know if it was doing it on purpose but crushing on a man that didn’t remember your name was… ‘I’m fucked in the head, aren’t I?’
“Right… Trisha,” Lucius said, managing a small smile. “Thank you.”
He barely finished the sentence before Luna launched herself into his chest, hugging him tightly enough to knock the air from his lungs.
Her face pressed against his neck and her body trembled.
“Luna…” he muttered softly, raising a weak hand to pat her back. “I’m fine now.”
But he wasn’t, not really.
His mana circuits still ached and his vision felt unstable, like reality was bending. He could see a lot more space in the air now… had something happened to his eyes?
Still, seeing everyone alive made the pain worth it.
“Where are we?” he asked after a few seconds, looking around. “And I’m guessing a dungeon shift occurred.”
“Yes,” Erika replied with a smile of her own. “We managed to find a cave that wasn’t infested. But this area’s not stable. The snowstorm outside’s getting worse… we can’t stay too long.”
Lucius exhaled slowly. “So we’re stuck inside a post-shift dungeon,” he muttered. “Lovely.”
Luna nodded, still clinging to him.
His warmth was the only thing keeping her from breaking down.
Outside, the snowstorm continued to rage.
The sound was deafening now like a living creature clawing at the world.
Erika crossed her arms. “With you up, we can try to move. If we can find higher ground, the rescue team might detect us.”
Lucius shook his head.
“Not happening. The mana density outside’s too high.” His expression hardened. “If we step out, half of us will freeze before the mana even kills us, sure I can use my Infinity but I doubt I’ll have enough mana to reach high ground.”
They nodded, he had saved them from dying after all…
He leaned back, trying to make himself comfortable. “We stay here for now. Gather our energy. Wait for the rescue team.”
Grimm scratched the back of his neck. “Boss… can’t you just blow the storm up or something?”
Lucius turned toward him slowly, his lips twitching into a tired smile. “I wish I could. But I seem to be having a problem…”
Before anyone could ask, his head jerked slightly and then both of his eyes burst open.
Blood splattered across Luna’s face in a horrifying spray.
She screamed, grabbing his shoulders in a panic. “L-LUCIUS!”
Erika flinched back, wide-eyed.
Trisha’s hand flew to her mouth.
Grimm shouted incoherently and Raven did too.
The entire cave fell into chaos for a second as Luna’s screams echoed off the stone.
But Lucius remained unnervingly calm.
“I’m alive…” he said in a tired voice, raising a hand as if to calm her down.
“YOU’RE NOT!” Luna screamed, shaking him violently.
His body rocked back and forth, but before she could yell again, something strange happened… his empty sockets began to stitch themselves together.
Threads of silvery mana pulled across the space, forming the shape of new eyes.
Within seconds, his gaze returned… She could see the familiar violet eyes she knew and loved.
Luna froze mid-scream. “Y-your eyes… they’re back?”
“See?” Lucius said with a weak smile. “Told you I’m alive.”
Her relief lasted two seconds. Then… POP!
They exploded again.
Blood sprayed directly onto her face for a second time.
Luna shrieked even louder now, her scream echoing all the way to the back of the cave.
Erika instinctively ducked. “Oh for f—Luna, stop shaking him!”
“I’M NOT LETTING HIM DIE AGAIN!” Luna yelled hysterically, shaking him so hard his head nearly fell back.
Lucius groaned. “I’m… fine…”
Then, as the system message burned into his mind, he understood.
