Chapter 232: We are heading to the capital.
“A man named Jacob?” Dorian let out a forced chuckle. “What are you talking about?”

Yelena looked at him. Confusion written across her face.

“I wish I knew too.” she replied. “All I know is these memories are not mine.”

‘She knows about Jacob. What are the chances she is talking about another Jacob ente— ah forget it.’

Dorian leaned back, his hand on his jaw while looking to the corner of the room.

His mind was racing.

Calculating.

‘What does this mean? Did Yashohi transfer her memories to her head? But what is she looking to accomplish by doing that? Arrrgh, this all makes no sense.’

His facial expression settled, now etched with worry.

Deep lines formed between his brows.

‘I really can’t ignore this any longer.’

Then it was followed by a knowing sigh, as though he was trying his best not to think about it too much.

He couldn’t afford to spiral right now.

So, he placed his hand right on top of his sister’s head and uttered these words—

“You did good. I am glad you told me. Good girl.”

Yelena’s eyes squinted a bit, clearly holding back the urge to cry again.

Her lips trembled.

For a second there, she was certain her brother would hate her.

After all, she was the reason for his death and why he suddenly took a wayward turn.

And yet—

“I am sorry!” She gripped his hand, tears flowing down her eyes.

The same way she apologized all those years ago, when he didn’t remember who she was, she wanted to do it again.

This time, just the way things were.

“I am sorry.”

Dorian smiled, rubbing her hair gently.

His touch was warm.

Comforting.

“Look at you. Now you have tears all over your cute face.”

With his hand now cupping her cheeks, the tears flowing over his fingers, he looked into her eyes.

“You shouldn’t be crying over the past. What happened has happened. Nothing can be done about that, other than to move forward, okay?”

Yelena sniffed her nose a bit before nodding her head in acceptance.

Her breathing was still shaky.

But she was calming down.

“Good. Now go to sleep.”

Just when he was about to let go of her cheeks, she held his hand back.

Her grip was tight.

Desperate.

“Are you going back to that kingdom place?” she asked.

“Yes. I had to fly back here on dragon’s back just to speak to you. They still need me there. I promise I’ll come back once I am done there.”

Yelena looked at him for a while, then, without saying anything, she crawled toward the center of her bed and gently laid down there.

Her back facing Dorian.

She pulled the blanket up to her chin.

Seeing that she had chosen to sleep, he stood up from the bed and walked toward the door.

His footsteps were silent against the floor.

Only for him to hear her voice again—

“I hate the Evernight witch. Okay, brother?”

Dorian paused.

His hand froze on the door handle.

He looked toward her.

She still had her back turned to him, so he couldn’t tell what kind of expression she was making in that moment.

But he could hear it in her voice.

So, he simply smiled, opened the door, and walked out.

The door clicked shut behind him.

Once he was outside the room, the door closed behind him, he gently rested his back against the wooden surface.

His face contorted in pain as he gripped his face with both hands.

‘Dammit! I don’t like this one bit. Is everything falling apart before my eyes? Simple life my foot. If things keep going like this, then I’ll barely be in touch with reality.’

In truth, he had avoided the entire Dragon Monarch business and what not because he truly wanted no part in any of it.

Hell, he chose to be a duke for that very main reason.

To live a simple life with his family and nothing more.

But as things stood, it was becoming more and more impossible for that to be a thing.

The universe had other plans.

Dorian sighed, the sound heavy with frustration.

‘Should I just find them and kill them all myself? No, that’s too rash. Chances are, it could lead to an all-out war against humans and witches like back then.’

He couldn’t afford another war.

While in his deep thought, he suddenly looked to the side, where he would see Ciel flying in from the window and slowly walking toward him.

Her wings folded neatly behind her.

Her expression was as calm and stoic as always.

“Did you get what you needed, my lord?” She asked. “Flying from one county to the next in a single night was kind of alarming. Is everything alright?”

Seeing her, Dorian stood upright.

The ugly expression on his face cleared off in an instant.

He forced a neutral mask over his features.

“Sorry about that. We are heading back now.”

Ciel seemed surprised.

Her eyes widened slightly.

“Why?”

“…”

“Forgive my rudeness, but I could sense you wanted to kill someone just now. Are you leaving without doing that?”

‘Of course she senses that.’

Dorian scratched the back of his head as he walked toward her.

“There are many other people handling that right now. Unless forced, I will not get involved. Not yet at least. For now, I need to take it one step at a time. The project comes first.”

He kept his voice level.

As soon as Dorian walked past Ciel, she let out—

“Exlor told me something during our studies. The Evernight Witch always kills the Dragon Monarch in every lifetime. We were only fortunate to have been in a lifetime where she killed him without winning.”

She turned to look at him.

Her gaze was piercing.

“That isn’t all, my lord. I bring news from Exlor.”

Dorian paused.

His entire body went rigid.

He didn’t turn around.

Didn’t move.

“From what he told me, the King has been acting rather strange. He mentions she had grown obsessed with the witch hunt. In the past four days, she already tracked and killed twenty witches.”

Two things ran through Dorian’s mind in that moment.

One was the fact there were already that many witches in the kingdom.

The sheer number was staggering.

Second was the fact Ravina had fully taken the responsibility.

Without consulting him.

Without asking for help.

She was handling it alone.

Baaam!

Dorian frustratedly punched the side of the wall.

His blow caused the walls to crack, a deep hole forming in the plaster.

Dust rained down from the impact.

His knuckles bled, but he didn’t care.

“Let’s go. We are heading to the capital.”

Ciel, still maintaining a calm look on her face, slightly bowed her head as she responded—

“As you wish, my lord.”

…

[A/N]

I am sorry about the quality of the chapter, and i know there would be questions as to why the mc doesnt just handle everything; he already has the power to do so. A bit of that has been explained, and also, most of the other things taking place are far more normal than having to be a god and facing a witch. it was easier for him to ignore once, but not anymore.
