Chapter 314: Wait, You’re the One that Killed the Colossal?
Fwoosh!

The [Supernova] hanging above everyone’s head kept growing, expanding like an enormous burning star that hovered just below the limits of the sky, casting an overwhelming blue glow over the land.

It pulsed like a living thing, throbbing with Sam’s own power, and every wave of energy made the air tremble, as if the entire realm was holding its breath, waiting for the inevitable explosion.

The heat rising from it rippled downward in slow waves, distorting the air around it and sending faint tremors through the ground.

Everyone standing there knew that the moment it detonated, nothing would be left.

Surely the impact of the [Supernova] would erase everything in its surroundings, wiping out Sam, Undyne, Vyxen, every soldier present, and even the landscape itself.

There would be no survivors.

‘Could it also erase some of the [Colossal Beams]?’ Sam wondered as he narrowed his eyes, ‘Oh well.’

The thought was casual, but the truth behind it wasn’t.

There was so much power condensed inside that star that the idea didn’t even feel impossible.

But Undyne… she still looked completely unfazed.

Surrounded by her massive array of [Soul Spears], cloaked in the blazing force of her [Soul Fire], she stood there like someone ready to challenge the heavens rather than flee from destruction.

Her aura was fierce and proud and unwavering, like she had already made peace with whatever outcome would follow.

[Alright, Supernova is full, you can detonate it whenever you want.]

“Oh?”

Sam raised an eyebrow as he looked up at the burning orb in the sky.

He originally assumed the ability would trigger automatically once it reached that state, but the moment he focused on it, he saw that it had stopped.

The spinning mass of blue fire froze in place, no longer expanding or swirling.

It hovered there, perfectly still.

Almost like time itself had paused, waiting for him to give the final order.

“We’re both gonna die,” Sam told Undyne as he lifted his sword and pointed it directly at her, “But unlike you, I can revive.”

“Can you?” she asked with a pained but unwavering grin, “Do you think… your determination didn’t falter, seeing me?”

Sam stared at her for a long moment, then slowly looked down at his own hands.

He opened and closed them once, feeling the faint tremor that followed the adrenaline building inside him.

“I’ll be fine,” he said, voice steady even though his eyes narrowed with focus, prepared to unleash the explosion the moment she made a move, “I killed a [Colossal] already. I still have nine more to go. Can’t go out like this.”

The words were spoken outwardly, but Sam knew they were meant more for himself than for her.

He needed to remind himself why he was fighting.

He needed to reaffirm his own resolve, because if there was even the slightest crack in his determination… then Undyne was right.

He would die here.

Not by her hands, but by his own attack.

The moment his determination wavered, the [Supernova] would not recognize him anymore, and its force would crush him along with everything else.

But Sam knew one thing with absolute clarity.

Undyne would never stop fighting.

She would never step back, not even for a second.

There was no possibility she would surrender.

Which meant Sam would have to be the one to end it.

Still, the exact moment Sam mentioned killing a [Colossal]… Undyne’s aura suddenly dimmed.

Her flames weakened.

Her posture loosened.

She lowered her weapon.

“You…” she said quietly, staring at him with wide eyes, “You… are the one that removed that [Colossal Beam]…?”

The [Soul Spears] surrounding her flickered once, then vanished completely.

Her expression was no longer hardened with rage or sharpened by determination.

Now it was filled with disbelief, confusion, and a hint of unease.

“Yeah,” Sam said simply, his stance unchanged as he kept his sword ready, “Gotta do it before the timer runs out, or this realm is done for.”

“What timer?” Undyne asked, confusion deepening on her face.

“The one in the sky.”

Undyne, Vyxen, and all the soldiers looked upward together, brows furrowed.

But all they saw was the massive [Supernova] hanging overhead.

Nothing else.

[They can’t see it.]

‘Oh.’

Sam understood immediately.

The mission was given to him alone.

The system must have made it visible only to him.

“We…” Undyne began again, her voice calmer as her aura settled, “We tried to kill one of the [Colossals] before… but right as we were about to deal the finishing blow, the [King] intervened.”

She tightened her fists as she spoke, jaw locking in bitter frustration.

“He said that we are not allowed to kill them. He said that if we ever tried again, he would destroy us all.”

“…?”

Sam blinked, surprised by the simple cruelty of the explanation.

“And yet… you are able to kill them?” Undyne whispered, staring at her trembling hands as if she couldn’t understand the implications, “Incredible…”

[Her hatred toward us is diminishing, how… boring.]

“…”

Sam ignored the panel as he studied Undyne’s expression.

Now it made sense.

For all her overwhelming strength, for all her determination, for all her bravery, she could not defy the [King].

He had absolute control over this realm.

If he forbade something, then even Undyne was powerless to fight against it.

That was why she never killed any of the [Colossals].

It wasn’t weakness.

It was fear of what the [King] would do to her people.

And now that she knew Sam had managed to do what she could not, she saw something she hadn’t felt in a long time.

Hope.

That was why she released her transformation.

Not because she feared the damage from the [Supernova].

But because she believed Sam might be the one capable of changing the future of this realm.

“Are you… going to kill the others?” Undyne asked carefully, as if afraid of the answer.

“I’m forced to,” Sam said, glancing back at the glowing sphere above, “The timer.”

“What happens at the end of the timer?”

“All the [Colossals] leave their space and are able to enter the [Soul Realm] at once.”

The soldiers flinched.

Vyxen’s expression tightened.

Undyne’s eyes widened in shock.

She turned and looked at her daughter and troops with an intense, solemn gaze.

“Alright,” Undyne said softly as she unsummoned the spear held in her hands, “I think… having a compromise would be better… for now.”

[She’s just scared of the “Supernova”, activate it anyway!]

Sam stared at the panel blankly, then shook his head.

There was no need for that.

Right now, cooperation was far more valuable than destruction.

And he knew it. He waved his hand.

Fwoosh!

The [Supernova] vanished instantly, dissolving into the sky as the tear above sealed itself.

The trembling stopped. The realm returned to its previous state as if nothing had happened.

And interestingly, Sam felt no drain.

Since the attack never triggered, the cooldown didn’t activate.

Meaning he could use it again at any time.

‘I wanted to see if my determination actually faltered.’

Maybe a part of him had hesitated, even for a moment.

Maybe he had been slightly afraid of dying.

Still, the second he thought that—

The [Primordial Clone] suddenly moved on its own.

It lifted its sword and plunged the blade through its own neck without hesitation.

“What the hell?”

For two long seconds, the clone’s body went limp.

Then—

BOOM.

A burst of aura exploded outward as it resurrected, a wide, satisfied grin on its face.

“I guess my [Determination] hadn’t actually faltered,” Sam murmured, “I would have been fine.”

Even so, that didn’t mean he wanted to kill Undyne or her people anymore.

“Alright,” Undyne said as she turned around and then glanced back at him, her posture controlled and steady, “I guess we can explain SOME things.”

“Would appreciate it,” Sam replied, “Especially since I need to deal with the rest.”

Hearing that, hope flickered across Undyne’s face.

She gave him a gentle smile, the first real sign of peace between them.

“We would be eternally grateful if you could do that, I’ll try to aid you.”
