Chapter 307: The Giant Colossal’s Core, The Soul Valley
Fwish!
Sam let out a slow sigh as he looked around the quiet plains that stretched endlessly on every side.
Now that the brilliant light of the [Colossal Beam] had vanished, the entire area had dimmed into a calmer gray tone, as if the world itself was finally resting after everything that had just happened.
He stood in the middle of the vast field, surrounded by tall grass that swayed gently from the lingering shockwaves of the beam’s disappearance.
The air was heavy, still buzzing faintly with leftover lightning from Metyr’s core, and Sam rubbed the back of his neck as he took in the scene around him.
For a moment, he simply stood still, breathing deeply, letting the quiet settle into his bones after the chaos of the fight.
Then he shook his head.
‘I’ll have to find a way to leave.’
He opened his [Soul Realm Map], the holographic sheet appearing above his palm in faint blue light, and he scanned it in search of a direction that might lead him out of these plains.
Nothing nearby looked promising, but Sam knew he couldn’t stay here forever.
He had one day, exactly one day, to complete another [Colossal Beam], and until then he needed to avoid every other type of danger this realm liked to throw at him.
And knowing this place, there were many.
Still though, even as he focused on the map in front of him, his thoughts drifted back and forth through everything weighing on his mind.
‘Can’t use [True Primordial Spirit] since no spirit appeared,’ he groaned silently to himself.
‘Or maybe a spirit did appear, but it’s still stuck inside that stupid [Colossal Space].’
That possibility made his head hurt even more. Right now, Sam only had three spirits left.
[Darkness Monarch], [Judge Monarch], and [Soul Wyvern].
Every other spirit he once had had been annihilated by the [Soul Wyvern] back when it went berserk.
The first two were nearly useless now.
They were strong once, but here in the [Soul Realm], they were extremely underleveled.
If he summoned them now, they would probably be wiped out within seconds by any monster walking through these plains.
And as for the [Soul Wyvern], though it was powerful and gained strength from his aura and affinities, Sam had seen firsthand how dangerous level 150 creatures could be.
If he encountered more monsters of that caliber, the wyvern might not be enough anymore.
‘I need to be more selective in the spirits I choose,’ Sam thought as his eyes narrowed.
‘Having one hundred spirits is good, but if most of them can’t keep up, then they’re nothing more than decoration.’
If he could build an army, not just a swarm, but a carefully curated army, made of spirits he hand-picked for their strength, abilities, and synergy with his skills, then he might stand a real chance of surviving the next trials.
It wasn’t just about numbers anymore. It was about quality.
And then there was the second problem, the one that made his stomach twist in frustration the moment he thought about it.
He couldn’t extract the colossal’s core himself.
Which meant he had missed out on a massive amount of experience.
A colossal of Metyr’s level should have given him an absurd amount of progress.
But because of the system’s weird rules tied to the [Colossal Space], he had been denied all of that.
‘Damn it…’
Sam clenched his jaw.
These colossals found ways to frustrate him even after he defeated them.
Because if he couldn’t absorb the core from each colossal, then even if he killed every single one of them, he would never level up.
And if he couldn’t level up, then he would remain stuck in his current state, forever held back, unable to grow, and unable to survive.
He exhaled sharply as a dark thought crossed his mind.
‘Can I even consider that I defeated Metyr?’
He looked down at the primordial sword in his hand, its blade glowing faintly with the power of his affinities.
The weapon trembled with each breath he took, resonating with the energy still swirling through him.
But that didn’t erase the question burning inside his mind.
Would he have actually won if Metyr hadn’t believed he couldn’t?
Because in the end, Metyr had chosen to use his [Ultimate] skill.
He had chosen to sacrifice himself.
He had chosen that path because he didn’t believe he could defeat Sam in a straight fight, but what if he hadn’t made that choice?
Could Sam’s sword have truly pierced through him?
Could he have pushed Metyr all the way down without that desperate last resort?
[Eclypse Slash] had been able to cut off Metyr’s arm, yes, but that was different.
That attack concentrated all the power Sam had at that moment into a single strike.
But the rest of the fight? The part where it truly mattered? He simply wasn’t sure.
[No need to think about that.]
Sam glanced at the glowing panel beside him and let out a long exhale before nodding slowly.
‘Yeah.’
The future colossals might have higher levels. They might have stronger abilities.
They might have better stats, faster reactions, and more brutal affinities.
Everything from this moment forward was only going to get harder.
Which meant the next twenty-four hours he had before being forced into another [Colossal Space] would be extremely important.
He needed to recover, prepare, grow stronger, and plan.
[There aren’t any rewards for beating the “Colossal Space”.]
Sam sighed again when he heard that.
“So I figured,” he muttered before rolling his shoulders.
Primordial Wings!
With a single thought, his wings unfurled from his back, wide, sharp, and glowing with primordial power.
He crouched slightly, ready to leap into the air.
But right as he was about to lift off—
Zoom!
A sharp sound cut through the air from above, and Sam snapped his head upward.
His eyes widened as he saw what was falling toward him.
[Oh, it’s the core.]
“What?”
A massive sphere plummeted from the sky like a burning meteor.
It was enormous, much larger than the [Darkness Monarch]’s core.
Electric sparks wrapped around its entire surface, crawling like serpents across the glowing structure.
Sam had no clue how something that huge was going to be absorbed, but after seeing his primordial sword eat the Darkness Monarch’s core, he wasn’t too worried.
The sword would figure it out. He just needed to avoid dying while it landed.
Sam shot sideways just as the colossal core crashed into the ground.
BOOM!
The shockwave was so violent it created a massive crater on impact, a crater so large it tore through the plains in a ring of destruction that shook the earth beneath him.
Dust and debris shot upward in a column that blotted out the sky for several seconds.
Sam braced himself against the wind as grass flattened around him like ripples in a storm.
‘Damn, that’s definitely going to attract monsters.’
But even then, Sam couldn’t help but smile a little.
The core rested at the bottom of the crater, and it was huge, hundreds of times taller than him.
Blue lightning flickered across its surface, dancing around the familiar symbol of lightning that he had seen etched onto the [Colossal Beam].
Sam tilted his head back toward the sky.
‘That thing dropped from the sky.’
Meaning one of two possibilities.
Either the system itself delivered this “reward” from above.
Or the [Colossal Space] had been floating in the sky all along, and the core fell when the space collapsed.
Either way, it didn’t matter much. What mattered was that it was here.
Sam raised his sword.
Fwish!
[Drop the sword.]
He paused as the panel appeared, then obeyed, letting the primordial weapon fall.
He hadn’t expected to be able to hold the core anyway, so letting the blade handle everything was easier.
The moment the blade touched the ground—
BOOM!
An eruption of black tendrils burst outward from the primordial sword.
Fwish!
The massive tendrils wrapped themselves around the colossal core, squeezing and compressing it with monstrous force.
Sparks of lightning scattered into the air as the core was slowly crushed and broken apart, until it dissolved completely into pure energy.
Then the tendrils coiled inward and began absorbing the glowing fragments.
Nom! Nom! Nom!
The sword devoured the core piece by piece, swallowing the energy for several long minutes.
Only when the final traces disappeared did Sam finally hear the familiar chime.
Ding!
[Congratulations to Sam Walker for leveling up to Level 3 of the Immortal Rank!]
[Congratulations to Sam Walker for leveling up to Level 4 of the Immortal Rank!]
“Nice.”
Two level-ups at once, that was rare now that he was so deep into the power system of this world.
It also meant he still had time to push his [Hatred Bar] to 100.
But before he could move on—
ROOOOOAR!
A thunderous roar echoed across the valley.
[The valley you are in is filled with monsters.]
“Damn.”
The crash of the colossal core had been too dramatic. Every beast in these plains had heard it.
And now they were sprinting toward him from every direction, drawn by the explosion, the energy, and the scent of power.
Sam tightened his grip on his sword as the ground began to tremble beneath incoming footsteps.
“Well,” he muttered with a faint grin, “I did say I wanted training.”
His eyes narrowed as countless shapes appeared on the horizon.
“Fighting all these monsters might be my best chance.”
