Chapter 300: The Colossal Beams, The Last Stretch
Sam glanced at his [Soul Realm Map], and on it, the ten beams also appeared with an icon of a beam next to a grayed-out symbol.

Their names showed [???], and their icons were impossible to see.

In fact, even though Sam knew there were icons in the beams, in the distance, he also could not make out much about them no matter how hard he tried.

All he could see was that they were different from one another, and because of that, he understood that each one represented something unique.

Regardless of how hazy they appeared, as he scrolled through the map, he saw that the beams were scattered literally all over the realm without any clear pattern or meaning.

From one far edge to the other, they were all there, displayed across the entire world like a silent warning.

And of course, Sam could still see the beams in the real world with his own eyes, not just through the map.

Some were unbelievably close, so close that the colors practically touched the edges of his vision, but the rest were far in the distance, though still visible because of how bright they glowed.

‘I guess… I’ll have to see.’

He had originally wanted to explore this world a little before training, just to get a feeling of the environment and maybe understand how things worked here, but the moment these beams appeared, something inside of him twisted.

He had a bad feeling about all of this, and that bad feeling only grew stronger with every passing second.

Especially since the closest one to him was not actually that far away at all.

Based on the [Soul Realm Map], the nearest beam was in a valley surrounded by cliffs, so Sam truly wondered what kind of situation waited for him there.

Weren’t the [Colossals] supposed to be massive beyond comprehension, towering over everything like walking natural disasters?

And if that was the case, why could he not see them at all right now?

The world was calm, the sky was clear, and the land was motionless, which only made his uneasiness grow.

Regardless, he immediately tried to activate his [Class Skill], because if something dangerous was about to happen, then training was the priority.

Dimension of Time!

As soon as he activated his ability, a white portal appeared before Sam’s eyes, roughly his size, shining faintly and humming with energy.

He marched toward it, ready to step through and lose himself in training, but the moment he was about to enter, he bumped into it as if hitting an invisible wall.

“Huh?”

He tried again, pushing his hand toward the portal, but it met resistance and bounced back.

He tried several times, but nothing changed, and the cold realization slowly crawled up his spine.

[Remember that the “Dimension of Time” has a rule.]

Sam looked at the panel, and his eyes widened a little because he had only seen it once before, but he indeed remembered that rule clearly.

‘But wait, how?’

He looked around and noticed that nobody was near him at all, not a soul or presence or anything, so the rule should not apply right now.

Not wanting to take any chances, he turned back and headed inside the [Soul Cave], walking downward through the spiraling passage until he reached the bottom once more where he had been before.

Dimension of Time!

He summoned the portal again, but the same thing happened, and at that moment Sam knew without a doubt that something was very wrong.

Because after all, the rule he remembered was simple.

[You can only enter the “Dimension of Time” when alone in a place, no one else can be with you.]

‘Is it because they are watching me,’ Sam wondered, ‘Or… is there something invisible constantly following me?’

It would not surprise him at all if it was one of the [Colossals] hiding its presence to observe him, or even worse, the [King] himself.

Either way, the bigger question was why none of them were attacking him.

He had come to their realm, and if they were truly the strongest beings in existence, then they should know better than anyone that Sam had no chance of survival against them right now.

He was like an insect walking on the surface of an active volcano.

‘Well, I get no training.’

He let out a quiet exhale because if the [Dimension of Time] did not work, then he would have to do everything in the real world with the constant threat of something trying to kill him at any moment.

Sam left the [Soul Cave] after that, emerging into the [Soul Realm] once more with a heavy breath.

And then, instead of taking even a single second to enjoy the strange, beautiful landscape around him, he made his decision immediately.

Primordial Wings!

Sam released his wings, and the familiar energy spread across his back before they opened wide, glowing with both power and tension.

He flapped them and rose into the sky with steady force.

‘I guess I’ll look at those beams.’

[This is the most reckless and dangerous thing you have ever done.]

“Hm.”

Trying to investigate something like this, even though Sam knew without a doubt that he was not strong enough, would indeed seem suicidal to anyone with common sense.

But what else could he truly do?

Would he just fly around, hunt monsters, and panic every second wondering if a [Colossal] would appear behind him and crush him instantly?

After all, if the [Dimension of Time] did not work, then the only choice he had left was to adapt his skills while in the middle of a real fight.

And Sam knew from experience that he worked best when the situation was collapsing around him and the pressure reached an all-time high.

[We have “Supernova”]

Sam could indeed use that skill if the situation became completely unmanageable, but as before, he planned on holding it for as long as possible.

And so…

‘I just… need to see.’

The beam in front of him, which he decided to call the [Colossal Beam], was the clearest one and also the weakest in terms of aura.

All the others were flaring brighter and more violently, even though they were farther away.

The beam was blue and purple, as if made of pure light, and on it, the symbol of a lightning strike was engraved like a warning.

Fwish!

Sam flapped his wings repeatedly, rushing toward it with a controlled but determined speed.

And then…

Ding!

[Enter the “Colossal Beams” to face the opponent linked to them.]

[Each one can do whatever they want inside their space, whether it is having a direct battle or a challenge.]

[And no matter how impossibly hard it is, you can either defeat the “Colossal” to leave, or stay stuck forever.]

[You shouldn’t have come here, but that determination of yours stops you from thinking straight.]

[See you soon.]

The “see you soon” made Sam’s eyes narrow instantly.

And at that moment, he also stopped in the air, wings flapping to keep him steady.

‘The fact that each of the [Colossals] have a space means they can’t leave it, right?’ Sam tilted his head, trying to analyze every detail, ‘Meaning that… I’m safe to do whatever I want until then?’

A wide grin slowly spread across Sam’s face, because if this was true, then he could definitely find a way for himself to win, no matter how small or improbable that path was.

[The “Colossals” can leave their spaces if I order them to, in fact…]

Snap!

Sam heard a powerful snap echo through the air, and it felt as though the entire [Soul Realm] shook from the force behind it.

[This is the last stretch.]

[After that… if you somehow manage to win, then we will resolve this.]

[Though I can promise you, child, that you will never beat me, or at least, the situation will end in a draw.]

[You WILL die.]

Sam felt a sudden chill run down his spine, and his entire body began to tremble despite his attempts to stay calm.

It felt as if his soul itself was warning him that no matter what path he took, he would still fail in the end.

Still, Sam shook his head and tried to clear the overwhelming fear that wanted to take root.

[He’s saying the truth.]

Sam’s [Hell-Mode Analysis] panel appeared in front of him again, and the message made his expression darken even more.

[We will die in the end, but at least we should keep going until then =), just to see.]

“Well, sure,” Sam shrugged lightly, “Can’t really do anything else anyway.”

BAM!

And at that moment, one last thing happened.

Above Sam, in the open sky, a counter appeared.

[It will reset every time you defeat one of them, and if it reaches zero… you’ll see.]

“Damn.”

It would have been fine for Sam normally, because he never planned to waste time or relax much but…

[59:48 minutes left.]

The timer showed only one hour.
