Chapter 287: Using Primordial Lightning, Slaughtering The Last Monarchs
Surrounded from every direction, and facing the two monarchs at once while his clone handled all of the other monsters swarming the battlefield, Sam took a slow breath that steadied his chest.
He did not bother activating [Blood Verdict], because he knew there was no reason to use it here.
After all, his intention was to kill these two beings as quickly as possible, and attempting to “judge” them would only mean he planned to make them bleed before doing so.
Sam looked at his own hands for a brief moment, then at the primordial sword resting between his fingers, and he inhaled again, letting the breath fill him fully before letting it out.
‘I can only think of two ways to end this battle quickly.’
He watched as the two monarchs stepped forward in unison.
Ilaris with her [Blade of Heaven] glowing with blinding golden radiance, and Alikar with his [Spears of Hell] burning with deep crimson energy bright enough to distort the air around him.
‘The first… is to use [Supernova].’
He had attempted to use it before, but it had been nullified long before it could do what it was meant to do.
He knew without question that if he used it fully, truly unleashed it without letting anything suppress it, the skill would wipe them out instantly.
It would obliterate the two monarchs, every monster in the mist, his clone, the ground of the square, the mist itself, and likely a huge chunk of the realm.
But that was exactly why he refused to use it now.
That skill was something he wanted to reserve for the end, for the final moment, for the instant when the [Colossals] and the [King] would be watching him with their full attention.
He wanted it to be a final stand, not something he wasted on the monarchs of heaven and hell.
And because of that, there was only one other option left.
A second skill that he had never used once in his life.
Fwish!
Alikar charged first, both of his crimson spears rotating in wide circular swings as he closed the distance faster than a normal awakener would be able to see.
Sam raised his blade and deflected each strike smoothly, one after another, letting his wrists absorb the movement with minimal waste.
Ilaris immediately stepped in afterward, swinging her [Blade of Heaven] in a clean vertical slice that Sam dodged with only a fraction of a second to spare.
The battle instantly turned into a close-ranged two-on-one clash, one where all three figures continued to strike at a terrifying pace, never slowing down for a heartbeat.
‘Also, it makes me think that the [Stars of Hatred] never actually appear in situations like this.’
Sam felt no hatred toward them.
That was probably the reason the black stars on his body did not emerge.
He could imagine they would appear if they damaged him severely or killed him, but at the moment, he felt nothing strong enough to trigger them.
And compared to the fight against the group of celestials, the struggle happening here barely even counted to him.
Even with the domain advantage the monarchs had, even with the mist, even with the summoned monsters, nothing here came close to the pressure of fighting that entire celestial group while he had none of his abilities.
A part of him felt almost insulted that these monarchs thought they could win.
He glanced toward his primordial clone briefly.
It was handling itself perfectly.
It activated [There Is No Hope Before Him], stunning every single Mist Angel around it, though the two bosses were immune.
The clone’s primordial tendrils tore through the stunned angels easily, shredding their mist bodies apart and scattering them like smoke.
And then it rushed toward the [Mist Brute] and the [Fallen Mist Angel], its sword striking with lethal force.
Sam turned his attention back to the monarchs, his expression completely calm.
“Dying doesn’t scare us,” Alikar said suddenly as they continued to fight in a blur of movement.
“You cannot win.”
“Neither does it scare me,” Sam replied evenly, deflecting Ilaris’ next slash and pivoting around a spear that almost grazed his cheek.
“But once I deal with every single one of you… it’ll truly be over.”
“Good luck with that~” Ilaris laughed lightly, swinging her blade again, the heavenly metal whistling through the air.
‘It does make me think,’ Sam thought while he kept exchanging strikes with both of them, ‘Did any of the [Forsaken Lords] or [Monarchs] ever feel scared?’
Every time he defeated one of them, he never saw genuine fear.
None of them ever screamed in terror or tried to beg for life.
None of them showed panic even at the moment of death.
They only reacted with anger or shock.
‘Was it because, just like me, they knew they could revive?’
He remembered what Zareth had tried to reveal before dying.
He remembered the implications.
And the meaning behind the monarchs’ reactions when he asked earlier how they were still alive.
‘Hm.’
After several minutes of exchanging blows, using skills, reacting, dodging, countering, and fighting with pure martial instinct, Sam had reached his limit for patience.
He leapt back from the battlefield, distancing himself from both monarchs.
His eyes glowed with a harsh crimson shine.
He lifted his sword slowly.
“Goodbye,” Sam said with a quiet exhale.
PRIMORDIAL LIGHTNING!
—
[Description: Summon a primordial lightning storm from the heavens to strike your opponent extremely hard, with a 100% chance to affect them with “Madness” and “Nullification”.]
—
Above the square, the sky shifted. It darkened slowly at first, then rapidly, then violently.
Massive crimson clouds churned above them.
But the mist covered the realm, meaning the monarchs did not seem to sense any of it.
They had no idea what was about to fall on their heads.
Sam continued fighting them for a few seconds as the charge built up, feeling the storm intensifying more and more every instant.
And then, when it reached the limit…
ZAP!
A thunderous explosion ripped through the air as the first bolt slammed downward.
ZAP! ZAP!
Dozens of lightning bolts crashed into the square all at once.
The crimson lightning struck the ground, the air, the bosses, the angels, and the monarchs simultaneously.
The [Mist Brute] and [Fallen Mist Angel] were struck multiple times, the attacks overwhelming them instantly.
The two bosses became paralyzed, unable to even lift their arms.
The primordial clone moved in immediately and killed both bosses with clean, merciless strikes, a wide grin growing across its face.
The monarchs were hit heavily as well.
And then—
Ding.
[You have afflicted “Madness” on “Ilaris” and “Alikar”]
[You have afflicted “Nullification” on “Ilaris” and “Alikar”]
The two monarchs froze in place.
Their auras became unstable and erratic. Their eyes lost focus.
Their minds were clouded by the [Madness] effect.
And most importantly…
Fwish.
Their weapons vanished instantly.
The [Blade of Heaven] and the [Spears of Hell] were both skills.
And because they were skills, they were nullified entirely.
Sam looked at the empty hands of the two monarchs with a small smile.
“How ironic,” he said quietly as he watched them realize what had happened.
“What happened to me is happening to you.”
“What?” Alikar muttered, blinking in confusion.
“Huh…” Ilaris whispered, staring at her now empty hand.
Sam teleported between them and moved without hesitation.
SLASH.
He severed Alikar’s neck first, since the hellish monarch seemed like the one who could cause the most immediate danger even without his weapon.
And then—
“Don’t feel scared though,” Sam said, and the grin that spread across his face was so vicious that even Ilaris widened her eyes in shock.
“You’ll revive if I die… am I wrong?”
“You…” she whispered.
Slash.
He cut her down next, ending her life in a single, merciful moment.
‘This might have been the quickest battle ever against a [Monarch],’ Sam thought as he lowered his sword, ‘Oh well.’
Ding.
[You have slain the “Monarch of Heaven”]
[You have slain the “Monarch of Hell”]
And then, immediately afterward, the loudest announcement he had ever heard echoed across the realm.
Ding.
[Global Announcement: The “Final Mission” has been completed by the “Primordial.”]
[They have completed the “Upper Realm”]
