Chapter 283: Second and Third Wave, More Enemy Types
The guardians raised their arms, mist swirling around them as their shields formed into solid, shifting barriers that gleamed faintly in the crimson light.

The abominations charged like beasts, roaring as they pounded across the stone road.

Slash!

Sam’s sword came crashing down on one of the shields.

But the blade didn’t pierce through.

The impact rang out sharply, and the force pushed Sam a step back, boots scraping against the ground.

‘This can’t keep going for long.’

It had only been three seconds since the start of the third wave, but already he felt a bad feeling rise in his chest.

The mist behind him was closing in again, creeping closer every moment, its hungry whispers filling the air.

If he wasted even a second here, he knew what would happen.

And so—

“Use your skills!” Sam shouted.

The clone, standing beside him, nodded immediately, its expression shifting into one of fierce focus.

Primordial Tendrils!

In the same instant, dark tendrils burst out from both of their primordial swords, twisting like living shadows.

Dozens of them lashed outward, wrapping around the [Mist Abominations] before they could react.

Crack!

The sound of bones snapping echoed across the crimson road as their bodies were crushed in an instant.

They didn’t even have time to scream.

The [Mist Guardians], however, proved much more durable.

Their misty shields glowed faintly, blocking the tendrils’ grip and preventing them from being caught.

They were defending perfectly, their shields deflecting every attack.

But at that moment, Sam’s eyes narrowed.

He changed his approach.

Instead of trying to crush the guardians themselves, he focused on controlling the tendrils more precisely.

“Take the shields,” he ordered.

The tendrils reacted instantly to his will, whipping around the guards’ arms and gripping the edges of their barriers.

Yank!

One by one, the tendrils tore the shields straight out of their hands, tossing them aside.

The guardians barely had time to react before Sam and his clone were upon them.

Slash! Slash!

In a blur of motion, both of them cut through the defenseless guardians, their blades slicing cleanly through the misty bodies.

The moment the last guardian fell—

Ding!

[You have defeated the second wave.]

Sam exhaled slowly, his chest rising and falling as the misty corpses around him dissolved into nothing.

Of course, he couldn’t even absorb their cores.

They vanished too quickly, their essence returning to the fog.

Not that he had time to anyway.

The mist behind him was still creeping closer.

Sam turned to his clone, nodded once, and both of them sprinted forward the moment the path ahead cleared.

The wall of mist that had blocked them faded away, opening the road.

And as they rushed ahead—

[It was probably too easy for him.]

[Indeed. But it’s expected. They all do well at this stage.]

[Third level of danger, then?]

[Bring in the “rays.”]

The words appeared before Sam’s eyes, floating in gray light.

And before he could even process them—

BOOM!

From both sides of the path, deep within the walls of mist that bordered the ruined city, something stirred.

Sam’s instincts screamed a warning.

“…What now?”

[Dodge.]

The moment he saw that message, he dropped into a crouch.

A beam of mist shot across the road from one side to the other, tearing through the air where his head had just been.

A [Mist Ray].

The searing white beam faded a second later, leaving a faint burn mark on the crimson stone.

‘Holy shit.’

[If we get hit, it’s over. Dodge them all.]

‘So that’s the third level of danger? Damn.’

Sam gritted his teeth and kept moving.

And that was only the beginning.

More [Mist Rays] began to fire from both sides, shooting across the road one after another.

It was still manageable—for now—since Sam could see the faint distortion that formed a split second before each shot.

But he had to stay sharp.

Even one mistake would mean death.

If even a single ray hit him, he would be swallowed by the mist instantly.

He and his clone kept weaving between the attacks, dodging left and right while running at full speed.

And then, up ahead—

Another wall of mist began to form, stretching across the entire path.

Sam slowed slightly, eyes narrowing.

[Purgatory Wave #3: Just Give Up.]

‘Hm.’

He wasn’t surprised.

As expected, the next wave had arrived.

The mist stirred violently, and dozens of new figures began to emerge.

‘Alright,’ he thought, watching them appear. ‘That confirms it. They’re just stacking more of the previous monsters while adding a new type each time.’

The challenge was designed to keep getting harder while still feeling theoretically winnable.

But with the mist always closing in from behind, there was no time to rest or think.

If he ever slowed down, that was it. Game over.

Now, before him, stood fifteen [Mist Abominations], ten [Mist Guardians], and five new enemies that hovered in the air like shadows.

Thirty total. And the five floating figures drew Sam’s attention immediately.

They had transparent bodies, hollow eyes, and glowing orbs in their chests that pulsed faintly with red light.

—

[Mist Wraith]

[Level: 110]

[Skills: Float, Mist Body, Mist Rays]

[Description: Flying entities formed from the mist. They can drag intruders into the fog.]

[Hell-Mode Analysis: The orbs.]

—-

‘Great,’ Sam thought grimly.

The moment they appeared, the wraiths tilted their heads slightly, their glowing orbs flaring.

Fwish… ZAP!

A thin beam of mist shot out from one of the orbs, slicing through the air toward him.

Sam rolled to the side, the beam barely missing him.

‘Damn. So they can fire those things too?!’

He got back to his feet, watching as more beams followed.

Thankfully, they were predictable enough to dodge—but only barely.

If he wasn’t fast enough, even one hit would mean death.

Still, in the middle of all that chaos, Sam noticed something.

The orbs were the source of their power.

‘Knew it,’ he thought. ‘Hit the orb, and they’re done.’

He immediately turned toward his clone.

‘Use [Primordial Tendrils] to kill the others,’ Sam ordered telepathically. ‘I’ll deal with the wraiths.’

The clone nodded and rushed forward without hesitation.

Sam raised his sword, channeling his aura.

Primordial Barrage: Turret!

A glowing turret of condensed energy formed above his head, spinning rapidly as it locked onto the floating wraiths.

He didn’t waste a single second.

Fwish!

The turret began charging a shot, the air humming with pressure.

Then—

BAM!

A concentrated bullet of energy shot out, piercing straight through the chest of the first wraith.

The orb shattered instantly, and the creature let out a faint shriek before dissolving into mist.

‘Knew it,’ Sam grinned. ‘Only four more.’

He turned the turret to the next target.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

One after another, the turret fired, its shots precise and devastating.

Each time, a wraith fell, its body vanishing into the fog.

Meanwhile, the clone was busy tearing through the rest of the enemies.

Tendrils erupted from the ground, grabbing the abominations and crushing them instantly while others snatched the shields from the guardians, leaving them open for a quick slash.

The synergy between them was perfect.

By the time the turret destroyed the last wraith, the clone had finished off the remaining monsters.

The air went still for a brief second.

Then—

Ding!

[You have defeated the third wave.]

The mist wall ahead dissolved once again, revealing the path forward.

Sam exhaled, lowering his sword.

He could feel the heat from the mist behind him, closer than ever now.

But still, he smiled faintly.

‘Alright,’ he thought. ‘Only two more, it seems.’

His clone looked at him silently.

Sam gave a small nod.
