Chapter 276: They Are All Gone Now, Determination’s Victory
While the [Demon of Hatred] had managed to eliminate Seris, Sam now faced two enemies at once: Olivia and Maeva.
He could still see the real Maeva amidst the chaos, faintly glowing with a distinct aura.
The important part was that she didn’t know he could see her.
Slash! Slash!
Sam’s sword danced in sharp arcs, deflecting every [Rainbow Crescent] that Olivia hurled toward him while cutting down Maeva’s countless reflections one after another.
Bolts of lightning struck the ground in rapid succession, roaring louder and brighter with each hit.
They multiplied so quickly that the air itself trembled with static, but Sam moved through them with fluid precision.
Compared to what he’d endured before, when he’d been powerless and defenseless, this was nothing but child’s play.
Clash! Slash!
Each strike echoed like thunder as Sam kept pressing forward, step by step.
He could feel the pressure around him tightening, but it didn’t slow him down.
He was waiting for one opening, just one.
And then he saw it.
Ignoring the projectiles and reflections, Sam pressed his foot hard against the ground, propelling himself forward in one explosive leap.
SLASH!
His blade cut through a wall of fake Maevas protecting the real one, shattering them like glass.
And then, suddenly, he was face-to-face with her.
“Huh?”
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
It was clear she hadn’t expected him to pinpoint her real body among the illusions.
But now, realization came too late.
All she could do was watch as Sam raised his sword high above his head.
She swung her scythe desperately in response, their weapons clashing with a violent clang.
But her strikes lacked precision, her movements sloppy and rushed compared to his.
Sam’s technique was clean, refined, lethal.
After their brief clash, he twisted his wrist, parried her blade aside, and used one of her reflections as a foothold.
He sprang upward in a burst of motion.
Clang!
“OLIVIA!” Maeva shouted, her voice trembling. “LET’S GET HIM!”
The rainbow-haired Celestial reacted immediately.
She flapped her wings, bursting into the air, twin [Rainbow Swords] flashing in her hands.
Slash! Slash!
She swung at him in midair, her strikes fast and radiant, cutting through the air like beams of light.
But Sam met every blow effortlessly.
He deflected each one with almost mechanical precision.
“We’re not in the same situation as before,” he said calmly. “You’ve lost.”
With that, he swung harder, so hard that the impact forced Olivia to drop one of her swords.
It clattered to the ground, its light fading.
“Huh—”
Before she could react, Sam’s next attack came even faster.
She barely managed to block with her remaining sword, but the force of his strike spun him in the air, and as he turned, his boot slammed into her side.
The hit sent her flying backward through the air, wings flaring in pain.
Sam didn’t stop.
He dove straight down, eyes locked on Maeva.
She panicked, retreating as fast as she could.
Her reflections multiplied around her, creating a shifting wall of duplicates.
They all mimicked her movements perfectly, trying to confuse his vision.
But Sam could still see the faint glow that marked the real one.
No matter how many illusions she created, she couldn’t hide from him.
Fwish!
He ignored the others and swung his sword in a wide, brutal arc.
SLASH!
Maeva’s head separated cleanly from her body, falling to the ground in silence.
Her illusions screamed in unison, then lunged at him.
There was no way to dodge them all.
But then—
Fwish!
They vanished.
Every single reflection burst into mist, disappearing instantly.
Of course. They were tied to her essence.
The moment the real Maeva died, all her copies ceased to exist.
Sam took a heavy breath and looked up just in time to parry another strike.
Clang!
Olivia had recovered and attacked again, her sword crashing against his with enough force to send him sliding backward through the dirt.
Her face twisted in desperation.
And when Sam looked at her, his expression was unreadable, his grin small, cold, almost amused.
It made her shiver.
Slash! Slash!
“Die!” she shouted, swinging wildly.
Her attacks came fast, faster than before, a blur of rainbow light.
But she had lost control of herself.
Panic had taken over, and she was no longer fighting with skill, only rage.
Sam blocked and dodged through the storm of blows.
Each swing left faint scratches on his arms, but he barely reacted.
Then, as he was about to strike back—
HATRED BEAM!
BOOM!
A deafening explosion erupted across the battlefield.
Olivia turned her head in shock just in time to see it, a massive beam of crimson energy roaring straight toward her.
It was the [Demon of Hatred].
It had been charging that attack from the very moment Sam had thought the words “Kill it.”
Even while dodging Lucien’s endless spears, it had never stopped preparing.
And now the beam was unleashed.
“You shouldn’t have done this,” Sam said quietly, voice calm but sharp. “You should have just left me alone.”
He backed away, letting the demon’s attack hit its mark.
Olivia barely had time to scream before the beam consumed her entirely, burning her into ash.
When the light faded, there was nothing left.
[Only one left =)]
Sam’s eyes flicked toward the last opponent.
He couldn’t rest, not yet.
Because even before Olivia’s ashes touched the ground, a [Spear of Requiem] shot through the air toward him.
He twisted to the side, barely avoiding it.
Then he looked up.
Lucien hovered above the ground, lightning crawling across his skin.
His body crackled with uncontrolled energy, arcs of electricity leaping from him to the clouds above.
His eyes glowed with fury and grief.
And now that his entire team was gone, something inside him snapped.
The sky turned darker.
Clouds churned violently, and thunder boomed overhead.
“You…” he said slowly, voice cracking with rage. “…need… to die…”
Sam didn’t flinch.
He lifted his sword, deflecting another incoming spear with one clean motion.
‘Kill him,’ Sam commanded silently. ‘We go together.’
The [Demon of Hatred] gave a low growl in agreement, its wings flaring open as it surged forward.
Lucien’s energy grew wilder by the second.
Bolts of lightning fell like rain, each one strong enough to vaporize stone.
Sam sprinted through the chaos, dodging, deflecting, cutting down the spears that came flying from every direction.
But no matter how violent the storm became, he didn’t stop.
Within seconds, he and the demon were upon Lucien.
SLASH!
Their blades cut through both of his arms.
Blood and lightning burst into the air, mixing together as his weapons fell uselessly to the ground.
Then came the next strike, straight through his chest.
Lucien gasped, his body convulsing as electricity sputtered and dimmed.
Sam looked him in the eyes.
“Goodbye,” he said softly. “It was a difficult fight. I’ll give you that.”
SLASH!
The blade cut cleanly through Lucien’s body, splitting him in half before he could respond.
And then, silence.
Ding!
[They’re all gone now =)]
Lucien’s body fell to the ground in two pieces.
The [Spears of Requiem] that had filled the sky dissolved into nothingness.
The storm clouds faded, revealing a clear blue sky for the first time in what felt like forever.
Sam stood there, his chest rising and falling slowly.
‘I… win…’ he muttered under his breath. ‘I… fucking… did… it…’
The [Demon of Hatred] watched him for a brief moment.
Then, as the fury that fueled its existence began to fade, it too vanished—its massive body dissolving into the air until there was nothing left.
Sam’s legs gave out, and he fell to his knees, exhausted.
He let out a shaky laugh, half pain, half relief.
“Haha… fuck it…”
He’d done it. He had survived.
He had killed every last one of them.
All because he refused to give up.
And with nothing but sheer [Determination], he had finally won.
