Chapter 256: Seraphine’s Cooking, One Last Push to Level 10
Sam woke up in that same black void again, the same one that always greeted him between each mission.

Above him, the shadowy outlines of the Primordials stared down, their gazes heavy and silent.

But this time, none of them spoke.

The silence lingered longer than usual, and yet it felt lighter somehow.

They didn’t seem to have anything to say—maybe because they were content with the path he was taking.

Or maybe because there was simply nothing left to tell him.

And after what felt like both a moment and an eternity…

Fwish!

He woke up.

[Proceed.]

The crimson panel glowed before his eyes, its sharp color cutting through the darkness of the room.

Sam blinked, taking a slow breath as his mind returned to reality.

He pushed himself up from bed, the faint red light reflecting off his eyes.

‘Hm… why does it smell kind of good?’ he thought.

He didn’t even know how long he had been asleep this time, but based on the shine, he must have slept until morning of the next day.

Without wasting time, he left the room and walked downstairs.

The scent grew stronger with each step, sweet, warm, and strangely comforting.

And as he reached the living room, the answer revealed itself.

Belle was sitting at the table, shoving food into her mouth with a grin, while Seraphine stood by the stove, cooking more pancakes.

“Hi,” Sam greeted them blankly. “I see you guys managed to beat the [Land of Judgment].”

“Yeah!” Belle said with her mouth full, laughing. “It was tough, but I handled it!”

“As for me,” Seraphine added softly, still flipping pancakes, “I didn’t find any issues at all.”

“You hear that?!” Belle pointed an accusing finger toward her. “She said she had no issues! We almost died, and she breezed through like it was a walk in the park!”

Sam couldn’t help but grin.

“Apparently, the demon didn’t even chase after her,” Belle continued, throwing her hands in the air. “And all her answers in the second trial were right! Her clone in the third didn’t even fight back!”

“The [Land of Judgment] bases the trials on how pure or innocent someone is,” Sam explained calmly. “We probably got the rough ones because we’re… well, you know.”

It was true.

The easier the trial, the purer the person.

So Seraphine’s perfect run made sense.

She really was the “saintess” type.

As for Belle, he expected nothing less than chaos.

Still, none of them had it as bad as he did.

His own trials had been hell itself, but he wasn’t about to bring that up.

“What can I say?” Seraphine smiled sweetly as she brought the last stack of pancakes to the table. “I’m just that pure~”

Belle rolled her eyes. “Sure, saintess. Anyway, I think we’ll need to reach level ten of eternal-rank before moving on. The sixth mission’s weird.”

“Yeah,” Seraphine agreed, setting down a plate. “Though Sam already completed it, so who knows.”

“Huh…” Sam scratched his chin. “Not that difficult if you’re strong enough… especially since I dealt with it.”

Belle frowned. “Dealt with what?”

“Never mind,” Sam said with a smirk. “Let’s just eat.”

The [Darkness Monarch] had been the one controlling the tendrils and monsters in that zone, and once Sam killed him, everything became easier.

The others would still have to face the creatures roaming around, but at least they didn’t have to face the monarch himself.

He sat down and took a bite of Seraphine’s pancakes.

They were light and sweet, almost melting in his mouth.

“Seraphine’s better than you,” Belle teased, watching him. “I’d rather she do all the cooking~”

“At least I know how to cook,” Sam replied with a shrug. “Unlike you.”

It was true—his cooking wasn’t bad, considering he had lived alone most of his life.

But Seraphine had that careful touch that made her food feel special.

They spent a while eating and talking, a rare bit of calm between endless fighting.

When they were finally done, Belle leaned back in her chair.

“We’re thinking of going out to eat later,” she said. “Wanna come?”

Seraphine’s eyes lit up instantly, glancing at Sam with visible excitement.

He hesitated for a moment.

He rarely took breaks.

Most of his time was spent fighting, training, or leveling up.

Even his rest came only in the form of sleep between missions.

But then—

[It’s going to be one of our last breaks. Might as well. Hell is coming for us.]

A crimson panel flickered before his eyes again.

Sam stared at it, expression unchanged.

He didn’t care what it said—he would’ve gone either way.

“Sure,” he said, smiling faintly.

Though in the back of his mind, one thought lingered.

What did [Hell-Mode Analysis] mean by “hell is coming”?

Was the [Seventh Mission] really that bad?

Or was it warning him about something else entirely?

Either way, it didn’t matter. He’d push through like always. And if he died, then he died.

“I found the best restaurant in the kingdom,” Belle said, grinning. “We’ll go there!”

“Alright,” Sam nodded. “We’ll go at night, though. I have things to do first.”

Seraphine beamed. “You’re going to hunt monsters again, aren’t you?”

“Yeah,” he admitted. “I need to get stronger.”

Belle sighed. “You’re obsessed, you know that? You’re already IT.”

Sam smiled quietly. “There are a lot of things you don’t know. But maybe… one day, once this is over, we’ll be together.”

Belle froze, her cheeks flushing bright red.

Seraphine blinked in surprise, then smiled softly. “Count me in, then.”

Sam knew what his words implied, but for him, they were just that, words.

He didn’t expect to live through what was coming.

The odds were so low it was almost a curse to hope otherwise.

But still, if he could fix everything, if he could make sure the heroines survived, then that was enough.

[Seriously? Let’s just take care of ourselves first.]

Maybe the other Primordials didn’t have anything to fight for anymore. But he did.

‘Alright,’ he thought, standing up. ‘I should clear all the monsters in the [Sixth Zone] and maybe a few other zones too. That should push me to level ten. Then I’ll come back, rest, and… we’ll see.’

He said goodbye to Belle and Seraphine, then walked out of the mansion.

The moment he stepped outside, his expression hardened.

He activated [Primordial Rush], his form melting into the shadows and sinking into the ground.

The world blurred around him as he shot forward, faster than the eye could follow.

He sped across the landscape unseen, passing through the silent lands of the [Forsaken Kingdom].

No monster, no awakener, no soul could detect his presence.

His concealment was absolute.

After about twenty minutes—

Fwish!

He crossed through the [Fifth Barrier] and entered the [Sixth Zone].

He emerged from the earth and deactivated [Primordial Rush], standing tall as the dark mist of the zone swirled around him.

It looked the same as before, except… all the tendrils were gone.

Sam closed his eyes and focused.

Aura Radar!

A crimson pulse rippled out from his body, scanning the entire area.

Then—

Bing!

Dozens of faint silhouettes appeared in his mind’s eye. The monsters had respawned.

‘Perfect,’ he thought with a small grin. ‘Looks like I can kill them all.’

The creatures here were all level one hundred—strong, vicious, relentless.

But that was exactly what he needed.

He wanted to reach level ten of the forsaken-rank, the threshold before ascension.

He took a slow step forward.

Boom! Boom!

The ground trembled.

A thunderous noise echoed through the mist—hundreds of monsters, rushing straight toward him.

‘Heh…’

He had expected to hunt them one by one, but it seemed his presence had already drawn them in.

They wanted him. Good. That made things easier.

‘Perfect.’

He reached into his [Spatial Inventory] and pulled out the [Primordial Sword].

Its blade shimmered in the dim crimson light, the air vibrating with power.

Sam lowered his stance, eyes locked on the horizon where shadows moved like waves.

He didn’t plan on holding back.

If he was going to reach the next stage, he needed to kill everything that moved.

Every monster in this zone would fall.

And as the first of them burst from the mist, roaring—

Sam smiled. He was ready.

Some of the monsters immediately rushed toward him, trying to overpower him.

But Sam didn’t even summon the [Primordial Clone] or use any of his spells.

For some reason, he really wanted to kill all of them with his blade alone.

He wanted to feel the sharpness of the primordial sword on these monsters as he cut them apart.

Slash!

And in one swift motion, he killed the [Doom Bringer], the boss that had encountered his attack yesterday.

Sam felt much stronger than yesterday, even though less than a day had passed.

Slash! Slash!

And not a single one of these level 100 monsters could endure the strength of his blade, which cleaved right through them.

Sam’s expression remained the same through all of that, his eyes flaring.
