Chapter 242: Another Presence is Overpowering a Spirit? The Black and White Tendrils
“…Damn it.”

It was the first time something like this had ever happened, a spirit not listening to one of Sam’s commands.

That alone was enough to make him stop and narrow his eyes. It didn’t make sense.

He took a step forward, primordial sword in hand, his gaze fixed on the [Judge Monarch] that was slowly moving on its own.

“Why isn’t it obeying me…”

He frowned, watching as the spirit advanced toward the wall of black flames that marked the entrance to the [Sixth Zone].

‘Maybe it’s because it’s a monarch,’ Sam thought. ‘Maybe it can resist a bit more than the others.’

But that explanation didn’t sit right with him.

It made no sense, because the moment he overpowered and tamed a spirit, it became bound to his will completely.

Once subdued, it was supposed to obey any of his orders. No exceptions.

Yet right now, the [Judge Monarch] ignored him completely.

Then came the panel.

[A stronger force is taking hold of the spirit. You cannot do that.]

‘A stronger force…’

Sam’s eyes sharpened.

‘The next zone’s monarch.’

It was the only answer that made sense.

The [Judge Monarch] kept advancing, step by step, toward the wall of black fire.

From beyond the barrier, a low whisper echoed.

[Yes… come to me. Together, she shall destroy anything that comes.]

Sam tensed.

The voice carried power, deep, ancient, and full of control.

Once the [Judge Monarch] reached the barrier, it suddenly stopped in front of it.

And then…

Boom!

A ripple of darkness burst across the fifth barrier, spreading out like cracks in glass.

For a moment, it looked like the flame-wall itself was alive.

Then, dozens of tendrils, black and white, twisting together like veins of corruption, emerged from it.

They shot forward and wrapped themselves tightly around the [Judge Monarch], pulling him toward the barrier.

[Feed us your power and experience… and the corruption shall be satiated.]

The monarch’s head spun violently as if resisting and obeying at the same time.

Sam didn’t hesitate.

“Fight back,” he ordered.

The response came not from the monarch but from the wall itself.

[There is no point, Primordial.]

[An overwhelming force cannot be defeated.]

The tone wasn’t mocking, it was calm. Almost resigned.

But then, another sentence followed.

[But I am not like the others. I will not attack you needlessly, since I do not feel the urge to.]

Sam’s eyes widened. That was new.

One of these beings, one of the monarchs that hated his kind, had just spoken to him without hostility.

It wasn’t trying to trap him or preparing to strike.

It was… letting him go?

That had never happened before. For once, he might actually have a clear path forward.

If he didn’t interfere, if he simply allowed the monarch to be consumed or bound by the corruption beyond the barrier, it might mean peace, at least for a short while.

The tendrils continued to wrap around the [Judge Monarch], now fully engulfing its frame as they dragged it closer toward the flames.

[Anyway, have fun.]

[I do not care about such matters. You can go kill everyone for all I care.]

The voice faded slightly, as if losing interest in him.

Sam stood there in silence.

Waiting would’ve been the smarter move.

He could’ve avoided another fight.

He could’ve kept his strength for the next zone.

But then…

[Hell-Mode Analysis: Are we just going to sit around and do nothing?]

The words appeared across his vision, cold and familiar.

[Who cares if it’s dangerous, we NEED to kill him =)]

“…”

[Killing those beings is our calling. We cannot back away.]

And then the final message appeared, sharp and absolute.

[Proceed.]

Sam exhaled slowly, and his grip tightened on the primordial sword.

Something inside him shifted, a spark igniting deep in his soul.

The world grew quieter around him as his aura began to stir.

He couldn’t explain it, but he knew.

He wasn’t going to let this thing escape.

Even if it meant losing a moment of peace, even if it meant facing something stronger, he wouldn’t allow it to slip away.

His soul refused.

And so…

Fwish!

Sam blurred forward.

In an instant, he closed the distance between himself and the [Judge Monarch].

Slash!

The blade cut through the air, cleaving every tendril that had wrapped around the monarch in one swift strike.

The corrupted limbs fell away, dissolving into black smoke.

Before the barrier could react, Sam grabbed the back of the monarch’s armor and hurled him backward, far away from the flames.

The spirit hit the ground hard and rolled, its head spinning uncontrollably as it steadied itself.

Sam turned, his eyes burning with a cold light.

“If you move toward that barrier again,” he said, his voice steady, “I’ll kill you.”

The [Judge Monarch] froze.

The endless spinning of its head stopped, its aura dimming slightly.

Then came the sound.

Ding!

[You have taken back control of your summon.]

Sam relaxed slightly.

‘So it really was about overpowering them,’ he thought. ‘Because the monarch was scared of that other presence, it instinctively obeyed it.’

But now, after Sam displayed dominance, it returned to his control.

It was good that it happened here, outside the [Sixth Zone].

If it had occurred inside, betrayal could’ve happened at any time without him realizing it.

“Unsummon,” he commanded.

The monarch bowed its head slightly before its body dissolved into pale aura, flowing back into Sam’s chest.

Then…

[You made a mistake.]

Sam’s eyes flicked to the front.

The same dark panel appeared, the one with writhing tendrils etched across its surface.

And before he could even react—

Boom!

Hundreds of tendrils erupted from the black wall of flames, all of them surging toward him at once.

“!!!”

Sam immediately activated [Primordial Rush].

In an instant, his body turned to shadow and sank into the ground.

The tendrils whipped through the air above him, missing by inches.

He emerged dozens of meters away, reappearing at a safe distance.

The voice came again, colder now.

[This was going to be a peaceful matter.]

[But it seems like you truly are out for blood.]

Sam said nothing. His silence was answer enough.

[Alright then.]

[I’ll make sure you regret that choice.]

[You won’t pass my zone, no matter what.]

The last word echoed, and all the tendrils retracted, vanishing back into the wall of fire.

Then… silence.

The oppressive aura faded.

The presence on the other side of the barrier retreated, leaving only faint traces of corruption in the air.

Sam stared at the flames for a moment longer.

So that was it, the next monarch.

It had tried to take his summon, probably to strengthen itself.

But because he interfered, it now held hatred for him personally.

And he knew what that meant.

The next mission would be far worse than before.

The [Sixth Zone]’s mission was to “outrun” the corruption spreading across it.

If this monarch was the cause of that corruption, then Sam had just made the challenge infinitely harder for himself.

Still…

[We made the right choice =)]

[Do they really believe they shall be spared from our revenge?]

[There is nothing to do but keep moving, and get rid of all of them.]

[Because until we die, we have nothing else.]

“…Yeah.”

Sam turned away from the barrier.

There was no reason to stay here any longer.

He didn’t want to stand too close, the next time he did, he’d be entering that zone head-on, and the monarch would no doubt be waiting.

‘Even when I go inside…’ Sam thought, his expression darkening. ‘It’ll be waiting anyway.’

The thought was grim, but he didn’t let it linger.

He’d deal with it when the time came.

For now, strength was all that mattered. He opened his [Realm Map].

A faint golden projection appeared before him, showing every area he had discovered.

His eyes moved to the [Forsaken Kingdom].

The “Home” subsection had changed again.

It was no longer his old apartment, it was now marked as “Mansion.”

The new base he’d acquired.

‘Good.’

The map adapted on its own.

Sam selected it.

Ding!

[You are going to be teleported.]

A warm golden aura spread around him, forming a bright ring of light.

Then, in a blink, the world shifted.

He opened his eyes and found himself standing in front of a massive structure, his mansion.

‘Oh… it doesn’t teleport me inside,’ Sam muttered, glancing around.

The area was empty, silent.

Good. No witnesses.

‘Good thing I bought the one farther from the luxurious district,’ he thought.

As time went on, this place would eventually fill with people who could afford their own mansions, but for now, it was peaceful.

Sam took a long breath, his expression softening for the first time in hours.

Finally, a short break.

He walked up the stone steps, reached the door, and pushed it open.

“WELCOME~!”

“Do you like it~?”

Belle and Seraphine’s voices overlapped in perfect sync.

They stood in the doorway, smiling brightly.

Behind them, the entire mansion had changed, the atmosphere, the light, the furniture.

Everything looked completely different.

Sam blinked.

[Huh.]

‘Huh.’
