Chapter 237: Destroying the Judgment Towers, Skill Evolution Scroll
Eclypse Slash!
Sam gathered the energy of his [Primordial] power into both swords.
The black aura around him surged, swirling into the twin blades as he held them firm.
He stayed still for a few seconds, letting the power build up until the air itself began to tremble.
Then, he swung.
Three massive crescent slashes exploded from the swords, each large enough to match the size of the towers standing before him.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The air cracked apart under the weight of his attack, and the slashes shot forward without slowing, cutting through the distance like shooting stars.
They glowed faintly with the color of the void—dark yet edged in light.
And all three headed straight for the [Judgment Towers].
“=)”
Fwish!
The crescent waves struck.
Each one collided directly with the base of a tower, and the sound of impact echoed like the roar of a collapsing world.
Cracks spread instantly.
The black stone of the towers split open as though cut by a god’s hand.
Then, with one final groan, all three had a massive section of their base torn out.
The structures began to tip, leaning like dying giants unable to hold themselves upright.
The moment they started falling, something else happened.
The massive dark eyes embedded into each tower, those haunting, ancient eyes with yellow pupils snapped open.
Their gazes widened in disbelief.
The first thing they saw was the corpse of the [Judge Monarch] lying broken near the center of the arena.
Realization dawned.
The monarch had fallen. Their master had lost.
The eyes looked down next, seeing the destruction spreading through their foundations.
They could only watch.
Unable to move, unable to speak, they simply stared as the towers began to crumble beneath them.
The final thing they saw was Sam’s faint grin through the dust and light—a smile that carried both exhaustion and defiance.
And then, all three towers fell.
Their collapse tore through the silence, shaking the ground one last time before everything turned to rubble.
Of course, Sam knew it wouldn’t last forever.
The [Land of Judgment] existed in countless instances, and each time someone entered it, new towers would rise again.
But for now, this one, his instance, was the true one.
This was where the [Judge Monarch] had ruled. And now, that rule was gone.
Sam exhaled quietly, unsummoning the spirit of the dead monarch.
Then he turned and sprinted toward the exit portal that had appeared near the edge of the clearing they were in.
He leapt straight into it just as the final fragments of the towers fell apart behind him.
Fwish!
His body shot through a twisting vortex of light and void.
He immediately decided to check the other panels that appeared before him at that moment.
They had appeared when he killed the [Judge Monarch], but he had needed to escape the platform, then destroy the towers.
So now it was finally time… to check his rewards!
Ding!
[As a reward for completing the second mission, you have received x1 “Skill Evolution Scroll”]
“Huh.”
Usually Sam would receive a [Skill Tier Advancement Scrolls] for completing a mission.
But perhaps… because all of his skills were already evolved to [Tier 2], then he got something else!
He immediately decided to check it out.
—
[Skill Evolution Scroll]
[Rank: Forsaken++]
[Description: Can be used on a “Tier 2” skill to evolve it to its final rank.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: We don’t need that though, do we =)?]
—
‘Damn!’
This thing would be extremely powerful, but as [Hell-Mode Analysis] said, Sam didn’t need it.
His skills were already fully evolved, and even if they weren’t, he had [Primordial Evolution] to aid him.
But even then… he still decided to remember it: it meant that possibly other awakeners would be able to obtain that thing.
And if their skills were strong, they could make even Sam worry, though he didn’t count on that too much.
He was simply too powerful for any of them to even come close to him.
And the second reward panel was of course the one he anticipated most!
Ding!
[Since you have completed the “Land of Judgment” by yourself, and were the first one to do it, you also receive… a mystery box!]
“Nice.”
He placed the two rewards inside his [Spatial Inventory] as he would use the box when he was in the kingdom.
Then a familiar panel blinked into existence in front of his eyes.
Sam didn’t even need to read it to know what it was.
He had just completed the [Fifth Mission]. Which meant he had cleared the [Fifth Zone].
And that meant only one thing—he was heading for the next.
The message unfolded across the panel.
[Mission #6: Outrun the “Corruption” of the “Sixth Zone”]
[Description: Just reach the end, and you’ll be able to traverse the barrier.]
Sam stared at it in silence.
“Huh.”
Yet again, this seemed to be another type of missions that had never appeared before.
Until now there were zones, killing monsters and some challenges.
But now… it seemed different.
He didn’t need to kill any monsters or even go through a different area.
The mission would happen in the [Sixth Zone], and to complete the mission, one needed only to reach the end of the zone, which mean the [Sixth Barrier].
But of course…
[You have an overwhelmingly bad feeling about this.]
“Hm.” It wouldn’t be this easy.
In fact, this was the [Sixth Mission], meaning the one before the last one!
The fact that this was the second to last meant it wouldn’t be anything close to easy.
If anything, it might be worse than every mission before it combined.
Other awakeners didn’t know how many missions there were, but Sam thankfully did, allowing him to prepare.
Since the missions got harder and harder the further you went, and this was the one before the last, he truly expected something bad to happen.
“The simpler it looks,” Sam muttered to himself, “the deadlier it’ll be.”
Fwish!
His surroundings solidified.
The feeling of gravity returned, and his boots hit solid ground again.
He looked around and found himself standing in the familiar field of the [Fifth Zone].
But something had changed.
The air felt clearer. The thick, choking atmosphere that had covered everything earlier had thinned.
The ground beneath his feet was once again covered in green grass, and the brown sky from before had shifted into a calmer blue.
Even the yellow mist that used to block his sight had begun to fade away.
It wasn’t beautiful, but it was peaceful.
For now, at least.
‘Well,’ Sam thought, ‘I’ll take that as a win.’
He started moving forward—not because he intended to enter the next zone yet, but because he wanted to see it for himself.
To see what came next.
Fwish.
With a flap of his primordial wings, he shot upward, the feathers made of void energy glinting faintly as they spread wide.
He soared over the field, moving fast enough that the wind howled past him.
He ignored the wandering monsters below; they were too weak to bother with now.
And after only a few minutes of flight—he saw it.
The [Fifth Barrier].
‘Well, I guess I’ll get close to see if there’s anything, I need any info I can get to prepare.’
