Chapter 236: Fifth Mission Completed, The Judge Monarch’s Spirit
Ding!
[Global Announcement: The “Fifth Mission” has been completed by the “Primordial.”]
And right after that—
Ding!
[Congratulations to the “Primordial” for being the first being in history to complete the “Land of Judgment” and killing the second monarch: Judge Monarch.]
Silence followed the announcement.
Across the [Upper Realm], countless awakeners froze in place, glancing toward the glowing message that appeared in the sky.
This was the third time such an announcement had appeared, each time involving that same name.
The Primordial. And each time, it was followed by the death of something beyond comprehension.
First, it was “Zareth, The Forgotten One.”
Then “The Pale Monarch.”
And now, the “Judge Monarch.”
Beings none of them had ever seen or even heard of before.
And yet, that same figure, the one known only as the Primordial, was somehow defeating them.
No one could understand it.
Why was he facing them at all?
Why was he fighting these things instead of simply completing the missions like everyone else?
“Maybe those monsters stop him because he’s evil or something?” one awakener guessed, staring at the floating message.
“Could be,” another muttered. “Or maybe he hunts them down on purpose.”
“I mean, he is a Primordial,” someone else said darkly. “Those freaks don’t think like normal people anyway.”
Theories spread like wildfire.
Everywhere was filled with speculation about the mysterious being.
Even Seraphine and Belle, who knew Sam more closely than anyone else, could only stare at the glowing messages in disbelief.
Because he had never told them the truth. And he didn’t plan to.
After all, Sam didn’t actually know why these beings wanted him dead.
He knew that the Primordials were the powerful race to ever exist, beings that once defied the balance of the world.
He knew they had probably been wiped out for the chaos they brought.
But why these remnants, these monarchs, were so desperate to kill him specifically?
That was something he couldn’t answer.
He would have avoided all of it if they hadn’t come after him first.
He never went looking for them.
Or at least, that’s what he told himself.
[Are you sure about that, though? =)]
“Huh?”
Sam blinked, looking up at the faintly glowing system panel floating in front of him.
[The nature of a Primordial doesn’t escape an individual indefinitely.]
[At some point… you’ll go back to your roots.]
Sam stared silently at the words.
A bead of sweat ran down the side of his face.
But then he shook his head, scoffing.
“Yeah, sure. Whatever you say.”
He turned away.
“Anyway, let’s focus on the rest.”
Fwish! CREAKKK!
A sharp, groaning sound came from above, followed by a deep rumble that vibrated through the air.
Sam looked up and immediately saw it—the massive golden scale that had fired those devastating beams earlier.
It was decaying. Cracks ran along its shimmering surface as its glow dimmed.
‘With the monarch gone, it can’t stay active anymore.’
He watched as its golden light flickered and sputtered.
And then, it began to fall.
‘Oh, shit.’
The colossal scale plummeted toward him like a collapsing mountain.
If that thing hit him, not even a [Primordial Barrier] would save him.
Sam didn’t waste time.
He dashed forward, grabbing the single shimmering item that had dropped from the monarch’s body: the artifact.
Then, his wings burst open behind him.
Fwish!
Crimson energy spread like wildfire as Sam’s [Primordial Wings] unfurled.
He leapt into the air, rising fast.
But as he flew upward, he glanced back toward the ground—and hesitated.
The monarch’s corpse still lay there, its dark body sprawled across the fractured stone.
For a moment, he considered leaving it.
Then he clenched his jaw.
‘No.’
He wasn’t going to lose another spirit.
The spirit of Orryx, the Pet Judge, had been lost when the arena collapsed earlier.
He couldn’t reach it.
And the [Pale Monarch]’s spirit had vanished into the void before he could claim it.
But this one? This one he would not let go.
Because the spirits of these beings were bound to their corpses.
Wherever the body went, the spirit followed.
And as long as Sam carried the body out of this place, the spirit would be his.
Fwish!
Sam dove back down, seized the [Judge Monarch]’s corpse with one hand, and took off again, wings beating powerfully.
The heavy body hung beneath him like a shadow as he rose through the yellow mist.
BOOM!
The falling scale struck the platform below, shattering it completely.
The last remaining piece of solid ground exploded into dust as the entire arena began to collapse into darkness.
Cracks spread outward like spiderwebs before the structure broke apart completely.
Sam didn’t look back.
He just kept flying upward through the glowing fog, the corpse in one hand and the artifact in the other.
He decided to check the item.

[Scale of Judgment]
[Rank: Primordial]
[Description: The “Scale of Judgment” allows its wielder to judge whoever they see fit, it is a proof that someone has defeated the “Judge Monarch”]
—
“Hm.”
It wasn’t that useful for now, though, so he stored it inside his [Spatial Inventory].
For several minutes, there was only the sound of his wings cutting through the air.
Then, finally, he emerged from the haze.
Below him stretched the same massive area with the three towering structures—the [Judgment Towers].
And just beyond them, faintly glowing, was the exit portal.
‘Perfect.’
He flew over the towers, then dropped the monarch’s corpse from the sky.
THUD!
It hit the ground with a dull crash, sending dust scattering across the cracked earth.
Sam landed beside it and exhaled slowly.
Then his eyes lit up.
“I knew it,” he said with a grin.
Hovering above the corpse was a translucent shape—the spirit of the [Judge Monarch].
It looked exactly like its former body, complete with the three faces, the tarnished armor, and the four arms that each held a different object: the bell, the scale, the rope, and the gauntlet.
A perfect spiritual reflection of what it once was.
Before, Sam had been unable to absorb the spirits of the [Forsaken Lords] because their willpower had overwhelmed his.
But now…
Now he was a [True Primordial].
And his skill—[True Primordial Spirits]—had evolved.
No one could resist him anymore.
Not even a monarch.
He extended his hand toward the floating spirit.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then—
BOOM!
A surge of energy burst outward, shaking the air.
A shockwave rippled through Sam’s arm as the spirit’s power tried to resist him.
But it was too late.
His determination crushed the will of the monarch’s spirit like glass.
Ding!
[You have recruited a powerful spirit: “Judge Monarch.”]
Sam’s eyes widened slightly.
“Oh?”
This was new.
It was the first time the system had ever described one of his spirits as powerful.
Even the bosses he had taken from the [Maze of the Damned] hadn’t received that label.
That meant this spirit wasn’t just strong—it was on a completely different level.
‘Guess I did good.’
He nodded slightly to himself.
He couldn’t get Orryx’s spirit, but this was more than enough.
Ding!
[True Primordial Spirits: 1/100]
All of his previous spirits had been wiped out by the [Pale Monarch].
But now?
Now he could start rebuilding.
An army of primordial spirits, each one more powerful than the last.
‘If every one of them is as strong as this,’ Sam thought, his eyes glinting, ‘then I’ll be unstoppable.’
He summoned the new spirit immediately.
It materialized before him in a burst of crimson light.
It looked exactly like the [Judge Monarch], only its body was made of swirling energy, a blend of red and gold light streaked with faint shadows of Sam’s own affinities.
It radiated strength, stronger than the original monarch ever had.
Fused with Sam’s essence, it had become something greater.
He smirked.
‘With this… the rest of them won’t stand a chance.’
Of course, he knew better than to rely solely on his spirits.
They could still die, and their deaths were permanent.
But as far as tools went, they were invaluable.
Sam turned toward the corpse again, his sword already in hand.
Fwish!
A dark tendril extended from the blade, piercing through the dead monarch’s chest.
‘I really hope this one isn’t corrupted,’ he muttered.
Nom!
The primordial sword devoured the corpse’ core whole.
And the moment it did, power surged through him.
His body pulsed with heat as his aura exploded outward.
Ding! Ding!
[Congratulations to Sam Walker for leveling up to Level 2 of the Forsaken Rank!]
[Congratulations to Sam Walker for leveling up to Level 3 of the Forsaken Rank!]
The rush of power felt intoxicating.
Sam exhaled slowly, steadying himself.
It wasn’t much, only two levels, but it was proof of his victory.
He’d survived another monarch.
He’d lived through something that should have killed him ten times over. And that was enough.
Still, a part of him felt a small pang of regret.
He had never used his [Supernova] skill during the fight.
He had wanted to. But the risk was too great.
He felt like that ability could obliterate everything, including him.
One mistake, and he would’ve died instantly.
It was the kind of power you only used once you were ready to lose everything, or if he really was pushed against the wall.
Still… someday, he knew he’d need it.
Someday, that power would be necessary.
He sheathed his sword and looked toward the three massive towers that loomed ahead.
Their tops were lost in clouds, and the air around them rippled faintly with divine energy.
The three eyeballs were still closed, with visibly no intention of opening even after the monarch was dead.
A grin slowly spread across Sam’s face.
‘Well,’ he murmured, tilting his head. ‘I did say I’d destroy them if I came back, didn’t I?’
And now that he was stronger than ever… He fully intended to keep that promise.
