Chapter 256: 256:Is This Prelude To Rebellion
In Blanks.

A somber atmosphere filled the room and no one dared to speak first.

“DAMNNNN it!” Ethan cursed and slammed his hands against the table.

BOOOOM.

The wood cracked then shattered, turning into splinters and dust beneath his palms.

Shockwaves echoed and splinters filled the hall yet no one blamed him. The air itself felt heavy with anger and helplessness.

“For real… you are doing bad things and when I ask you to stop, this is how you react.” Ethan’s voice was low and strained. Veins stood out along his wrist and his jaw was clenched tight.

Ray exhaled slowly and shook his head. The ashes of the table scattered on the floor.

“Father, I think you shouldn’t have sent the warning message. That guy is a cold cruel man according to rumor who only acts for gains and benefits.” His tone was calm but serious. “You should have filed a formal complaint.”

Ethan shot him a glare. “Do you think I didn’t!”

“You really did?” Randall asked in disbelief.

“Hm.” Ethan nodded stiffly. “Over the last month, I sent three urgent reports to the Capital but all of them were discarded.”

His fingers curled into fists.

“It said the king is too busy and Adventure Guild is just using disposable.”

The moment they heard the word disposable everyone froze. A chill passed over them like winter wind.

Joel took a step forward, thinking deeply before speaking.

“What about asking the Prince—”

He stopped mid-sentence. Even mentioning that option felt dangerous.

The implications hung heavy in the air cause once you bow down to them then you have to support them to the end.

Silence followed briefly.

Ethan slowly sank down, sitting on the floor like strength was leaving his body.

“Did you all think I am crossing my boundary… Be honest.” He looked up with a tired smile, eyes dim but searching.

No one answered at first.

Then Hall spoke, voice soft. “My Lord, why are you doing so much for the people when other nobles don’t care.”

Ethan lowered his gaze.

“Don’t care huh…” he muttered. He was silent for a few breaths and then continued slowly. “They don’t care because they have never been put in the same situation.”

He turned to Ray.

“Just like Ray who had been fed to the brim with delicious food. How will he feel if he eats boiled carrot soup and cooked paddy.”

Ray’s lips twitched. ‘Why are you bringing this?’

Ethan didn’t let his thoughts stop there.

“Randall, you fought war right?”

Randall straightened. “Yes.”

“Have you met a King’s Knight?”

Randall nodded. “I have personally but one’s very presence was suffocating. I despaired and almost lost my senses. At that moment,I just wanted to escape and hide.”

“That is how common people feel when they encounter an awakened person.”

Everyone’s expression darkened. They finally understood the fear, the despair and the helplessness felt by the common men.

Ethan breathed out weakly and looked at his hands.

‘And it was worse for me because even an 8 year old kid in this world had more strength than me.’ He chuckled bitterly.

‘Just think about the fear I carried. Even a random dog on the street can kill me with a few bites.’

His voice faded into silence.

Ethan intertwined his fingers slowly. His knuckles tightened as he rested his hands over his thigh and bent forward. His back straightened and he leaned into a serious posture. His blue eyes scanned the room, steady and unreadable.

The room felt colder.

He stayed silent for a moment, then asked quietly.

“Are you afraid?”

Randall, Joel and Hall looked at one another, unsure. Their faces shifted with confusion. It was Joel who broke the silence first.

“Why should we be afraid?” he asked.

Randall nodded firmly. Hall crossed his arms.

“We aren’t afraid,” Joel continued. “Rather we are worried about you, My Lord. You seem to be conservative type and you always wait. You wait for the right moment to trap the enemy then strike. But you avoid conflict with the King every time.”

Randall stepped forward and slammed his hand over his chest with a thud.

“Shouldn’t it be the opposite?” Hall said strongly. “That man might be a monster but you aren’t less than him. Even if you say we are going to rebel then I will fight with you.”

His eyes burned with loyalty and madness mixed together.

“Just tell us if you want to be king,” Randall said without hesitation. “It might be difficult but not impossible. If the Lord can handle the bigger fish, we will have no problem taking the smaller ones.”

Joel nodded and turned to Hall like confirming agreement.”Yes, I also wonder how strong the Lord is now.”

Ray’s eyes widened. He stared at the three like he was watching lunatics talk freely about suicide.

‘Am I the only sane person left?’

But he was not alone. Ethan also looked at them with disbelief. His brows twitched and a faint laugh escaped him. They really thought rebellion was next.

‘When did I say we are going to rebel?’

‘These guys… ridiculous.’

But he could not deny the warmth inside him. They truly believed in him. Even if he did nothing, they were ready to draw swords for him.

Ethan exhaled slowly and chuckled, his shoulders dropping.

“Thanks for believing in me.”

Randall snorted and grinned.

“Hmmmoh… If we do not believe in you then who will?”

Ethan lifted himself from the seat and looked at each one of them with calm yet determined eyes.

“Then it is time to begin.”

“Time for the Order to shine.”

……..

BOOOOOM! BOOOM!

DUM! DUM! DUMM! DUMM!

The drums shook the entire territory of Blanks. The mana-amplified rhythm rolled like thunder across fields, streets and homes. People paused their work. Farmers lifted their heads. Children froze mid-play. Even animals stopped to listen. The sound was heavy, powerful and demanding.

Villagers hurried out of houses, workshops and taverns. All roads led toward one place.

The grand training grounds of Blanks.

Usually peaceful and open, today it was overflowing with people. Hundreds stood shoulder to shoulder, whispering anxiously. Sweat, curiosity and nervousness filled the air.

As they gathered, they spotted a formation of soldiers.

Rows upon rows of knights stood like cold statues. Their armours were polished silver, reflecting sunlight like mirrors. Spears and swords rested against their shoulders. Not a single man trembled. Their breaths alone felt like storms pressing against the lungs of civilians.

A chilling pressure fell over the gathering like winter fog.

“What is happening?”

“Are we going to war?”

“Is the territory under attack?”

Panic spread like fire among the crowd.
