Chapter 255: 255:The Warning
The entire Adventure Guild shook from the violent pressure that rolled out like thunder.

Adventurers and mercenaries inside the hall looked at one another with wide eyes, whispering in confusion. None of them understood what could cause such a disturbance and even fewer dared to guess who was bold enough to provoke that monster.

Simmon stood alone in the upper chamber, his aura exploding the moment his eyes skimmed the contents of the letter. The wood beneath his boots cracked and a wave of energy burst out from him like a storm.

The letter remained hovering in his hand as if held by invisible force. The ink on it was bold and direct.

[I don’t care who you are and what your motive is but don’t you dare touch the Western-Eastern Region.]

[I repeat don’t touch my land. If you don’t stop, you can’t afford to handle the consequences.]

Simmon’s shoulders trembled. Then the corner of his mouth stretched upward.

“Hehehe.”

“Hehe.”

“Hahahahaha!”

He laughed like a madman, loud and wild, as though someone had pulled away the last chain restraining him.

His laughter echoed across the hall and Steven, who was standing still with tense eyes, could not understand it. This was the first time he had seen the cold and merciless Guild monster laugh like this. He stood frozen while the sound shook something inside him.

For a moment he even wondered if the letter held a different message and he had misunderstood it.

“Is it a joke? Why are you laughing?” Steven finally asked, voice low and uneasy.

Simmon stopped slowly. His eyes gleamed sharply as he flicked his fingers. The envelope burst into ashes like fragile leaves in fire.

“Haha.” He exhaled softly. “How can I not laugh?”

His gaze became calm but terrifying. “It had been years since a random guy dared to challenge me.”

Steven swallowed hard. A Baron from the Western-Eastern territory daring to warn this man was madness. Simmon continued, voice deep and smooth like a blade sliding across skin.

“A backwater Baron… just because he took down a few weaklings. He started to think himself almighty.”

His grin widened. It did not look human for a moment. “So you are warning me that I can’t afford the consequences.”

He lowered his chin, eyes narrowing with dangerous joy. “Then let’s see who is it who can’t afford the consequences at the end.”

Steven took a step closer and asked carefully. “What are you gonna do?”

Simmon’s eyes grew darker. “Just wait and watch the excitement.”

He raised his hand in command. “It has been ages since I have had fun. So this time I am gonna enjoy thoroughly watching a frog try to leap out from the bottom of the well.”

He snapped his fingers. “Come and bring me a pen.”

“I am gonna issue a set of commands.”

……..

The night that followed changed the balance of Ruthiana.

A single declaration spread across every major town, every noble household, every guild post. It came from both the Adventure Guild and the Mercenary Guild, and it shook Ruthiana like a hammer strike.

It was an order of withdrawal.

From that moment forward all mercenaries were ordered to stop taking commissions. And even worse, the Western Region was banned from requesting assistance from mercenaries. This one command alone was enough to throw the region into chaos.

Mercenaries were pillars of noble families. Knights could not always handle every problem. Difficult tasks, monster elimination, bandit suppression, escort missions and dungeon management all depended on mercenaries. Without them the entire system cracked.

Villages screamed for help and no one came.

Monsters began to roam freely. Dungeon breaks increased. Beast sightings doubled. Bandits took advantage and raided villages, burning stores and fields without fear.

Barons were pushed to the edge of collapse.

And Duke Phillips began drowning in endless reports.

“My Lord, there is a monster tide attack,” one servant shouted.

“Ask Roen to take care,” Duke Phillips ordered while rubbing his forehead.

“My Lord, there is a flood in Aveuen.”

“Send Julia.”

“Your Highness, did you forget that lady Julia had already married.”

“Ahh…Then sent the Captain of Salvos Knight.”

“My Lord, D-ranked beasts sighted near the southern village.”

“Send the guard.”

He responded again and again until his voice grew sharp and frustrated. His usually calm posture was replaced by tension. He leaned back, gripping the armrest tightly.

More reports arrived.

“My Lord there is no more manpower.”

He turned toward the butler, expression stiff. “Why?”

“Because they are doing the work of mercenaries,” the butler replied quietly.

Phillips froze then cursed inside his mind.”Damn it… Ethan move backfired.”

He wanted to shout but held himself back. Ethan was his son-in-law. He could not curse him openly.

However, not everything was disastrous. One steward reported with a sigh of relief.

“Thankfully they aren’t going to kidnap people and sell them as slaves.”

Phillips relaxed slightly until another voice interrupted with urgency.

“My Lord there is a problem.”

Duke Phillips’s brows tightened. “What happened now?”

The man bit his lip then steadied himself. “According to intel, there is a chance that mercenaries are creating trouble. They are disguising as bandits to loot people.”

Phillips stiffened.

“They are also attacking Global Symphony and other merchant caravans. Trade routes have collapsed. Goods are stolen and merchants are in panic as the roads are unsafe. And without protection traders refuse to travel.”

The Duke felt cold sweat drip down his neck.

“Also I highly doubt that they truly stopped,” the man continued.

“You mean?” Phillips whispered slowly, expression changing.

“Yes My Lord. It seems they are still selling people using different approaches. And since there is no direct proof, we cannot accuse them unless we catch them on the spot.”

Duke Phillips closed his eyes hard. The memory of war surfaced. He remembered that single man who stopped Arcadia’s experts alone.

That man was Simon.

The Guild Master.

A monster.

He stood shakily.

“Wait…..Wait.” He grabbed his head. “Don’t tell me he provoked that monster. No way.”

He gasped. “Ethan whyyy! Why did you have to provoke that monster out of all.”

He sank back into his seat with dread rising through his bones.

But he could not sit there helpless.

“Send a message immediately.”

“No, prepare the carriage. I will go myself. I have to personally persuade him…”

His voice trembled as he walked out, weighed by fear of the disaster that was already unfolding.
