Chapter 247: 247:The Dying King
When Duchess Emma recovered herself, she did not waste a moment. She cleared the table, dragged a large slate board into the hall and called Ethan and Rina to sit in front of her like schoolchildren. Her steps were sharp, focused, and she already looked like an instructor ready to unload years of knowledge.

“Both of you, sit straight.”Her voice was calm, but it carried authority.

Ethan gulped quietly while Rina sat down with bright eyes and eager posture.

Emma picked up a piece of chalk and began drawing a ring .

It was slow, perfectly round and her hands were steady, practiced, and every stroke seemed filled with purpose.

“This is a basic magic ring. You already know that much.”Her tone was patient but firm.

She added runes inside the circle.

Each stroke curved, crossed and aligned at equal spacing like she was drawing a complex star map.

“Now pay attention.”She tapped the runes gently with the chalk.

“Rings are containers for mana. Runes are like commands. When combined, they form spells. Every rune here represents a law of nature like heat, vibration, compression, expansion, flow, ignition. A beginner spell only needs one ring to trigger a simple effect.”

She drew a second ring over the first, connected with tiny runic lines like threads.

“But intermediate spells require two or three rings interlocked. The rings rotate when activated. The inner runes must move in harmony like gears. If one misaligns, the spell collapses or explodes.”

Ethan blinked. His mind was already heating up.

Emma continued, drawing faster, more detailed lines spirals, nodes, rune-links.

“Mana vein structure connects these points. You see these nodes? They regulate pressure. These channels direct energy flow into formation. And this stabilizer rune keeps spell from blowing your arms off.”

Rina leaned forward, eyes wide, breathing quietly like she might inhale the knowledge through her skin.

Ethan stared blankly, half lost, half terrified.

Emma stepped back for a moment, then turned and drew a more advanced spell ring of three rings locked, runes forming dense patterns inside like a woven net. It looked like multiple constellations tied into place.

“This is an Intermediate Tier spell frame.

Look at the bridges. These are the links. Notice how one ring spins clockwise, the second anticlockwise, and the third compresses mana inward. It forms a core. Spell power comes from balanced rotation and compression.”

She pointed again.

“Advanced spells have seven, ten, even twenty rings. They stack like layers of the sky, connecting through bridges, pulses, regulators, stabilizers… It is architecture with mana as bricks and logic as mortar.”

Rina nodded rapidly. Ethan felt sweat on his forehead.

Emma turned to Ethan.”Now your turn. Draw a ring structure.”

His hands trembled slightly, but he drew what he knew. A circle of basic runes spaced evenly.

Simple, clean, but empty. He looked at Emma hopefully. She stared at his drawing for a long moment.

but a shell.

Emma spoke slowly, almost too calmly.

“So except for a few Intermediate ones and all beginner ones, you don’t know anything.”

Ethan opened his mouth, closed it, swallowed hard.

‘Damn it. I just wanted to know a bit, so what the hell is this complexity?’

His brain felt like it was leaking mana from every hole.

‘System, it’s your fault you didn’t provide me adequate knowledge.’

[Host, it’s because you hadn’t received high level spells from the system. And that’s because the System prioritized your strength first. If you had gotten even a single Master rank Mage spell, all subsequent knowledge would be within your mind.]

‘What! Then why didn’t you say it before? You bastard. Are you playing with me now?’

Ethan cursed in silence while pretending to listen.

Beside him Rina looked like she was born for magic. She absorbed everything that was taught.

Ethan meanwhile swayed like a deflated balloon.

Emma kept teaching for hours.

She demonstrated mana compression. She explained how runes amplify heat or bend light.

She made them trace invisible circuits in the air, guiding flow through fingertips. She forced them to draw ring after ring until chalk dust covered their hands.

By the end, Rina was glowing with satisfaction while Ethan could barely sit upright.

He slumped in his chair, eyes unfocused.

‘I only wanted guidance. Why did I end up in hell academy?’

….

Meanwhile, in the Capital of Ruthiana…

The grand court was in session. Ministers stood in rows while the second prince and third prince sat beside each other with careful expressions, eyes fixed on proceedings.

Prince Karl blinked twice, signaling his faction.

One minister stood and spoke loudly.

“Your Majesty, it is time for a feast. We should throw a grand party. Also about the promised promotion it is time to appoint them.”

King Mark De Rudius stared at him sharply.

“So you are teaching me things, you stupid bastard.”

“No..I—”

“What I…No when did I..”

“Shut up.”

His voice thundered through the hall.

“Don’t you know the state of the kingdom treasury? Don’t you know how much people have suffered?”

“That..”

“What..? The kingdom is in shambles. Yet you idiots think of celebrating and rewards instead of thinking of a way for the Kingdom to get back on track.”

Ministers exchanged glances with one another.

Their eyes seemed to ask ‘And whose fault was that?’

The king screamed until veins rose in his neck.

His face reddened with rage.

Suddenly his breath hitched. He coughed violently.Blood spilled from his lips.

The hall erupted with screams.

“Your Majesty!”

“Get healer!”

“Call physicians!”

Panic spread like fire.

Prince Karl and others jumped to help, rushing forward.

But the Royal Star Knights stepped between them.

“We will take it from here.”

Their tone left no argument.

“But—”

Cold eyes warned them that made the princes freeze.

The guards supported the king gently as he whispered weakly.

“The court is adjourned for now.”

“Adjourn!”

The proclamation echoed through the panic-stricken hall.

….

Later, behind closed doors…

“Damn!” Karl roared and threw a vase at the wall. His anger burned hot.

It was his men who suggested the proposal.

He wanted to build goodwill among nobles, but instead their faction was humiliated.

“He rejected my proposal so I think he will also reject the third…”

He slammed the table hard.

“But what matters most is Father’s decision. Why the hell is he not making a decision?”

Prince Karl glared toward his maternal grandfather Duke Keeves, who stood calmly with faint golden hair and steady eyes.

Keeves rubbed his chin.

“Though war is over the spoils are still in the process of being divided and taken care of, so he is not in a hurry. Though His Majesty declared a reward, he seems unwilling.”

Karl cursed again and looked toward the distant palace spires.

“Just what the hell is this old man thinking? He already has one foot in the coffin yet still refuses to let go.”

The court and the throne both trembled with uncertainty. And the future of Ruthiana leaned toward chaos.
