Chapter 238: 238:Grand Wedding
“We…. Kkkeee,” one man laughed strangely while licking his lips. He moved closer, reaching out as if grabbing prey.
“You don’t need to know who we are, rather you should know what’s going to happen to you next… Kekekkekek!”
Wild laughter burst out, echoing through the forest.
Before the hunters could react, more ropes flew out. One by one, they were dragged down, tied, and silenced.
That night, screams rose from the broken village.
Men, women, and even elders were dragged out of their damaged homes. Some tried to resist. Some cried. Some begged. All were bound and thrown together.
Cages were built hastily. Ropes tightened around wrists and ankles. Fear filled the air as villagers realized they were being abducted.
The following day,the entire village was emptied devoid of any living creature.
Only ruins remained of clashes that depicted the horror etched there.
…..
Unaware of things transpiring,in Blanks the marriage preparations were in full swing.
Days later, the day of Ethan and Julia’s marriage finally arrived.
Duke Phillips had originally wanted the ceremony to be grand, with invitations reaching all corners of the kingdom. He even suggested postponing it until after the war so more nobles could attend, but both Ethan and Julia refused.
They agreed on one thing. They wanted their wedding to be quiet and stable. No unnecessary attention, no overwhelming crowd. Ethan especially felt that handling too many guests would be stressful and he did not want chaos on a day meant for peace.
So in the end, the wedding was kept small, attended only by nobles from the Western region.
After the horrors of the recent war, this gathering brought warmth and calm to everyone present. During the ceremony, Duke Phillips announced another reduction in taxes as a gift to the people, and no one complained. Even the king had no reason to object on such a joyful day.
The wedding hall was beautifully prepared. Flowers hung from pillars, silk banners flowed along the walls, and soft candlelight filled the space with warmth. Gentle music played, blending with the soft conversations of guests. At the center of the hall stood Julia.
Her hair was short, framing her face neatly. The sleeveless gown showed the strength in her arms and shoulders, a reminder of her courage and past struggles. The fabric shimmered brightly when the candlelight touched it, making her presence calm yet striking.
As she looked around, Duchess Emma leaned closer and asked, “Where is he?”
Ethan’s wives stood nearby as bridesmaids, dressed in matching gowns, smiling gently as they participated in the ceremony.
“He was getting ready, right?”
“Then why is he taking so long?”
“Coming!”
A voice echoed from the entrance and everyone turned. Ethan walked forward, but not alone. In his arms and on his shoulders were five loudly crying children, and he looked completely exhausted.
“Just why the hell do these children grab me and cry during weddings?” Ethan muttered under his breath.
Mera, Ash, and Wales sat on his shoulders, while Arnold and Sally clung to his head, wailing loudly.
“Pa pa… Gonna leave us,” they cried.
Apparently someone had told them that a person leaves their home after marriage to live with their spouse’s family. Ethan still had no idea which bastard kept telling this to his children, but it happened at every wedding.
The younger ones always clung to him and caused trouble.
‘Just don’t let me find you or else….’
Randall stood at a distance, smiling faintly with amusement. Joel and Irina beside him exchanged glances.
Just then,Randall felt a shiver down the smile and sneezed.
“Did you feel cold?” Joel whispered.
“Yeah, but I don’t know where,” Irina replied.
Ethan let out a long sigh and shouted, “Come on, take them!”
He gently handed the kids over to the maids and family members, straightened his clothes, and finally walked up to the stage where Julia waited.
……
Herion and Nera carefully carried the rings as they walked forward. Their hands were steady but their eyes were shining with excitement.
The hall around them was filled with warmth and joy. People talked softly, laughed, and offered small smiles to one another. The soft flicker of candles on every table made the whole place glow.
Ethan stood in the middle, watching everything with steady breaths while his heart beat fast. He slowly turned his head, observing every face, every moment, every sound that made the hall feel alive.
While looking around, his eyes stopped on someone standing a little away from the crowd.
It was a grown man, dressed properly, yet he stood alone as if he did not belong among the laughter. He kept his face low, his hands shaking slightly. He was trying to hide his expression, but Ethan clearly saw the tears sliding down his cheeks. It was a quiet breakdown, the kind that carried years of weight behind it.
Ethan paused for a moment. He wondered silently what kind of emotion could make a man like that cry at a wedding.
He felt a light tug at the side of his clothes. When he looked down, he found his small son holding onto him and staring at the same man with curious eyes.
“Dad… Dad… who is that old man crying there?” the boy asked, his voice innocent and soft.
Ethan lowered himself a little, speaking quietly so the child would understand. “He… he is your new grandpa.”
The boy blinked, his eyebrows drawing together. “What? He is so big and yet crying? Did he get beaten?”
Ethan’s lips twitched slightly. He held back a faint smile and shook his head. “No. He just lost something precious, that is all.”
The boy nodded slowly. He did not truly understand but he accepted it. He turned his attention away again, already distracted by the ceremony continuing before them.
Ethan looked at the crying man for a few more seconds. Something in his chest tightened, though he did not know why.
‘Would I feel the same when they?’He paused and looked at his daughter.
His Adam apple bobbled up.
For some reason,he wanted to kill the person but then he shook his head.
‘What the fuck is this overreaction plot from old movies..’
‘Nah…Calm down…’
