223: 223:Denied Enoblement Yet Again!

223: 223:Denied Enoblement Yet Again!

Sophia’s brows twitched while she glared at the document in her hand.

Her jaw tightened and she looked like she was about to tear the paper apart.

Ethan raised an eyebrow but stayed silent for a moment.

He watched her chest rise and fall aggressively because of her irritation.

The atmosphere shifted as her aura leaked out in annoyance.

“Now what happened?” “Why do you look so angry?” Ethan asked with a frown as he leaned a little closer, trying to read Sophia’s expression.

“Of course I would be angry.

That guy, he is going to raise the rank of many nobles and this list is the list but…” Sophia clenched the paper in her hand, her voice trembling slightly with frustration.

“But?” Ethan raised an eyebrow.

“But our name isn’t here?” “…” Ethan paused and slowly reached for the list.

Sophia handed it over with sharp movements, clearly irritated.

Ethan looked at the names carefully.

There were twelve in total.

When he saw Baron Fenwick’s name, he clicked his tongue.

“He really managed to survive despite losing an eye and other injuries.

Now he will become a Viscount.” “Stop changing topics.” Sophia reprimanded him immediately, making Ethan cough lightly.

He looked at the list again with more focus.

“My name isn’t on it…” Ethan said with a frown.

His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought about it.

He had already been qualified as a Viscount even before the war.

The title was promised to him.

He would be granted it after the war ended.

But now…

“You also took care of those heretics yet there has been no reward nor any letter.” “Are they kidding?” Sophia kept grumbling in annoyance while Ethan tapped his finger on the table and sank into deep thought.

‘It seems I have certainly irked his ire but I don’t remember doing anything to provoke him.’ Ethan went through his memories of countless years, yet he still couldn’t find anything that might have caused this reaction.

“Hey Sophia…” he finally asked.

“Yes?” She looked at him, still annoyed.

“Did any of the princes take a liking to you and you rejected them?” “Huh?” Sophia paused mid-breath and stared at him.

Then she shook her head firmly.

“No.” “I have seen and greeted them but I never interacted with them.” “Then it’s crossed.” “Then we just need to wait and see…” “Let’s not rush ahead to conclusions.” “By the way, our men should be coming back.We should greet them with a great fanfest.” “Of course we should!”Sophia agreed solemnly.

…

The sound of hooves echoed across the open plains as horses raced forward.

Dust rose behind them in long trails.

Riding atop those horses were men clad in shining armor that reflected the sharp sunlight.

Their expressions were hard and focused.

A deadly aura radiated from them, the kind that only veterans of war carried.

The weight of countless battles clung to their bodies.

Their killing intent was cold and sharp, strong enough to chill the air around them.

Even the wind seemed to avoid brushing against them.

The beasts scattered along the plains sensed their presence and ran away instantly, as if they had encountered a true predator.

Leading this group was a man clad in black armor.

The metal plates gleamed darkly, and each step of his horse carried a heavy pressure.

His presence alone felt suffocating, thick with authority and experience.

His posture was straight and steady.

His gaze was firm and carried the sharpness of a blade.

The ground rushed beneath them as they continued their journey.

After almost half a month of nonstop travel, they finally reached their destination.

“HALLT!” The black-armored man raised his fist, signaling everyone to stop.

“Kyaa!” The horses released sharp cries as they slowed down and came to a halt.

The black-armored man lifted his head slowly and looked ahead at the distant city walls.

His eyes widened slightly.

For a moment, he simply stared.

“This place has certainly changed a lot,” he muttered with a low voice full of surprise.

“Of course it has.

Did you forget who is our Lord?” a soldier behind him shouted with pride.

The man in black armor nodded silently.

Then he clicked his reins and his horse rushed forward toward the city gate.

But none of them expected what would greet them.

Instead of quiet streets and cold silence, they were welcomed by a thunderous roar.

“OHHH!” “THEY ARE HERE!” “THE HEROES OF WAR!” “OUR BRETHREN, THEY ARE HERE!” “CHEER THEM!” A massive sea of people surged toward the streets.

They erupted into loud cheers, waving their hands high.

Many threw flowers into the air.

The petals rained down like a storm of colors.

Children ran alongside the soldiers, laughing and shouting.

Old men stood with teary eyes.

Women held their hands over their mouths, overwhelmed with excitement.

The entire city vibrated with joy and gratitude.

The soldiers looked around in shock.

Some straightened up unconsciously.

Some clenched their fists.

Some had their eyes turn misty without realizing it.

The black-armored man tightened his grip on the reins as he looked at the cheering people.

The flowers kept falling over them, brushing against his armor.

For a long moment he simply stared, unable to speak.

They were greeted as heroes.

The crowd grew louder as the soldiers approached the gates.

People pushed forward, raising their hands and shouting with excitement.

“They are here!” “The heroes of war!” “Welcome back!” “Thank you for protecting us!” Children waved small flags and ran along the sides while adults threw flowers into the air.

The cheers filled the entire street and shook the ground with their loud voices.

Amidst this overwhelming noise, the crowd at the center suddenly parted.

People stepped aside one after another until a clear path opened.

Everyone fell silent for a moment as they saw a man slowly walking forward.

He had long white hair that flowed behind him like silk and bluish eyes that shone calmly under the sunlight.

His steps were steady, and his noble attire, embroidered with silver patterns, made him look majestic and dignified.

Every gesture he made carried the air of a true Lord, someone who ruled with honor and strength.

He stopped before the soldiers and extended his hand.

“Welcome…

Welcome…” It was none other than their Lord.

Ethan Blanks.

Seeing this, the armoured knights could not sit still.

One by one, they jumped down from their horses, their armor clattering as they knelt in unison.

“My Lord!” “We greet the Lord!” “It is an honor to return before you!” Their voices trembled with relief and respect.

The man in black armor stepped forward.

He slowly removed his helmet.

As soon as he did, everyone saw tears rolling down his face.

His expression twisted with pain and guilt.

“My Lord, I failed to uphold my promise.

Of the 250 men, only 80 managed to return.

The rest of our brothers have departed to heaven peacefully.” Ethan’s eyes softened.

He stepped closer and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Uncle Randall, it’s enough.” Randall lowered his head, still crying, but Ethan pulled him into a firm hug.

“Enough of war.

Let’s keep that aside,” Ethan whispered with a heavy breath.

He hugged him tighter, feeling his heart squeeze with relief and sorrow.

“It’s good that you returned safely.

It’s really good.

I cannot say how happy I am today, Uncle.” “Me too…

Lord,” Randall choked out.

“Stop that.

Just call me Ethan.

For now, I am only your nephew.” Ethan stepped back and raised his hand toward the crowd.

“Tonight, there will be a huge feast.

Everyone is invited!” “Eat, drink, dance and rejoice.

The tabs will be on me!” “YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!” The city erupted again in cheers, this time louder and filled with joy and hope.
