- Chapter 210 - 210 210Take Your Chance
210: 210:Take Your Chance 210: 210:Take Your Chance Though it was over, everyone remained tense and silent.
Fear still lingered in their hearts.
Breathing felt heavy and unsteady.
But it was not until they saw Ethan walking toward them, supported by Emma on her shoulder, that their hearts finally believed they had survived.
“Now do you believe me?” Roen shouted again.
He ran forward with quick steps to support her mother.
“Come on, cheer!” A small cheer finally broke out.
Then another.
Within moments, people were raising their fists and clapping.
Some were shouting, some crying, and others laughing in relief.
They had been through too much.
And now, at last, they had something to celebrate.
“Hurray!” “We won!” “Thank the heavens!” Their joy echoed into the open air like a wave.
For many, it felt like taking the first real breath after drowning for too long.
Roen and Julia caught Ethan as Emma gently lowered him.
They held him steady, afraid he might fall again.
“Lord Ethan, are you alright?” Roen asked, holding him up carefully.
“I am going to be fine.
Just a little hurt,” Ethan replied with a weak and tired smile.
His voice was quiet and soft, but steady enough to calm them.
“Mother, are you alright?” Roen asked, turning to Emma.
“I am fine,” Emma answered with a small smile, though her body trembled slightly.
Her condition was also bad.
That last attack had shaken her to the core.
For a moment during the fight, she had completely lost herself.
She could not even remember who she was or what she was doing.
The dizziness still lingered, but she knew she would live.
By the time she regained her senses, Ethan had already finished the battle.
Ethan let go of them and looked around slowly.
The streets were torn apart and buildings lay broken.
The air was still thick with smoke and dust.
It was a disaster.
So many people had lost their lives.
Innocent families destroyed.
The weight of that reality pressed down on his chest heavily.
Emma looked at him and spoke quietly, “After this, you won’t be able to hide your achievements anymore.” Ethan gave a tired smile and nodded without speaking.
At the moment, he just wanted to rest.
……..
Inside the city walls, priests and healers were already tending to the wounded.
Some were applying bandages, others were using sacred spells to repair broken bones and close deep wounds.
The atmosphere felt quiet but busy, like a battlefield hospital.
People sat wherever they could.
Some sat on stairs, some on the pavement, and others under makeshift tents.
Some cried silently, some slept where they fell, and others stared blankly at nothing.
Everyone looked exhausted.
Many had been fighting, running, praying, or hiding for days.
Food had been scarce and water limited.
Fear never left them, not even for a heartbeat.
Roen in particular was running on pure determination.
He had not slept properly in nearly a week.
His eyes were bloodshot with deep dark circles under them.
He only managed short naps when his body completely collapsed.
Ethan, though physically healed because of the power he used, felt drained.
His body was not crying in pain, but it was heavy and stiff.
Every muscle of his body ached.
He walked inside a room and let out a long breath.
The room was small, quiet, and peaceful.
He placed his sword down gently, as if afraid it might shatter.
He removed his armor piece by piece, each part feeling much heavier than it should.
Then he walked to the attached bathroom and turned on the water.
He scrubbed his body with care and washed away the blood and dust.
He could have used mana to clean himself in an instant.
But something inside told him not to do that.
He wanted to feel human.
He wanted the water to wash away the battlefield memories.
He stayed under the warm water longer than normal, letting the heat relax his tired muscles.
After drying himself, he did not bother with food.
His body needed sleep more than anything else.
He climbed into bed, pulled the blanket over his shoulders, and let his head sink into the pillow.
Within seconds, he was asleep.
…….
Ethan, who had forced himself far beyond his limits, slept for almost three days straight.
Physically, he recovered within hours because of his abilities.
Mentally, he needed time.
His mind was exhausted.
When he finally woke up, his body felt light and refreshed.
He was full of new energy.
Feeling hungry, he called for food.
Soon a servant arrived with a tray full of roasted chicken, bread, hot stew, grilled vegetables, cheese, buttered potatoes, and a bowl of fruits.
There was a jug of wine too.
Looking at the feast, Ethan smiled and ate slowly, enjoying every bite.
“Ah… food after such a long time tastes like heaven,” he muttered in satisfaction.
The next day, the Duchess arranged a grand feast for the soldiers.
Skewers of roasted meat were being grilled over open flames, filling the air with the smell of spices and smoke.
Tables were stacked with bread, dried meat, fruits, cheese, and jugs of wine.
People laughed, drank, and celebrated their victory.
Roen stood before the gathering and raised his cup.
“I apologise on behalf of my mother for not being able to join you.
She has been busy recovering and handling the aftermath.” Up on the walls, Ethan watched the celebration quietly.
Roen stood beside him, sipping wine and keeping him company.
“Lord, have some,” Roen said, holding out the jug.
“Don’t address me like that,” Ethan replied with a soft smile.
“My status is still far below yours.” Roen laughed gently and poured a cup anyway.
“That is only for now.
You will rise soon enough, like a phoenix flying through the heavens.” Ethan took a sip.
He did not join the crowd because he knew his presence might make the soldiers uneasy.
People from the Blank estate were used to him, but others might feel nervous.
Looking at Roen, Ethan said calmly, “I know this is not the best time, but you should use this chance to find out who these enemies were and where they came from.” Roen placed his cup down and nodded seriously.
“Do not worry, Lord.
My mother already sent men to investigate.
These people might have been hiding here for years, waiting for the right time to strike.” “Since we cleared them out, she has also sent letters to my father and the Father” He looked at Ethan with sincere eyes.
“If not for you, we might have been completely wiped out.” The memory made Roen’s hands shake a little.
Ethan noticed and said quietly, “This might not be over yet.
Do not let your guard down.” He paused and added, “There may still be people under their control.
I suggest checking everyone, just to be safe.” Roen nodded more firmly.
“I will tell my mother right away.” Then he saw Ethan looking around.
“Are you looking for my sister?” Roen asked with a small smile.
Ethan smiled and nodded.
He did not need to hide it.
“She is busy helping mother.
She will come once she finishes.” ……
Meanwhile in the office.
A tensed atmosphere prevailed followed by a scream “What?I didn’t hear it properly!” “Can you say again?” “I say you need to take this chance..Don’t let it go?” “WHAATTT?”
