Chapter 387: Chapter 387 Flight and Found
Urs’ arms felt numb from receiving Rook’s strike, and he could barely keep ahold of his sword.

‘But I still think that I’m the one that came out on top of this exchange.’

Blood was pouring out of Rook’s carved up arm and the large gash on the left side of his face.

It was a pretty ghastly scene, and those unaccustomed to seeing such gore likely would have felt sick if they witnessed it.

For Urs though, things like this had been common enough to see. Honestly, this did not even come close to the worst of what he had seen.

“I’m sure that you didn’t meet your end on a random station out here near the edge of the Dramid Alliance. At the hands of a half bahnen bastard like me that has the blood of one of the clan’s your warmongering devastated. I may not be too close to my family, but it almost feels as if I can hear my dead brethren cheering for me to bring you down.” Urs said, his typically neutral expressing changing as he flashed Rook a victorious grin.

“This isn’t over yet!”

Rook roared with garbled speech due to the heavy injury on his face. Even in his current state the man had not lost his will to fight.

Yet his strong spirit did not change the fact that he was suffering from severe blood loss and was now down a limb.

His movements were slower than before, and his left side was an obvious weakness to exploit since the only part of his arm that remained was a limply dangling piece of flesh and muscle.

Methodically, Urs fought with Rook. Not underestimating his opponent and moving to finish the battle carefully and without error.

Over and over again they clashed, and each time more wounds appeared on Rook’s body.

Try as he might, in his current condition, he could no longer fully protect himself.

He had avoided taking any fatal wounds, but there were deep cuts all over his body now and he was drenched in his own blood. Every second that passed he grew a little weaker. It would not be long before he failed to block or avoid a killing blow.

Except, as Urs was getting ready to finish off his adversary, a cacophonous scream from the direction where Avery’s parents had been hiding.

This caught Urs’ attention, and he turned his head in that direction.

It was only for a moment, but his eyes were off of Rook.

Taking this chance, Rook pushed off the ground and dashed away. While he hated to retreat, dying was a worse option. If he died, he would be unable to accomplish his goals or fight ever again. Fleeing after a loss was better than the alternative, even if it wounded his pride.

Of course, Urs noticed his opponent starting to run away and almost instinctually gave chase. He would certainly be able to catch up considering the state Rook was in, but his feet stopped after he had only taken a step forward.

With his teeth clenched together hard, he reluctantly turned around and headed towards where the scream had come from. No matter how much he wanted to take Rook out, his priority was protecting Avery’s parents.

He would just have to hope that the man was either caught by the Alliance Police or died of blood loss.

…

Back when the battle between Urs and Rook was still raging on, both of Avery’s parents were hiding down the adjacent tunnel and huddled behind a device that monitored the sewers water levels.

From where they were, they could hear the sounds of weapons’ fire and explosions periodically.

Whenever there was a moment of silence in between the clashing of weapons, they both held their breaths wondering if it was over.

However, just moments later, the renewed noise of the ongoing fight reached them. Ensuring them that neither side had come out on top yet.

The dear gripping both of them grew by the second, as they became afraid that Urs would actually lose.

He had seemed almost unstoppable up until this point, easily taking on large groups of enemies and winning, but now he was struggling against just one person.

Eventually, the sounds began to change.

The distinct echo of what sounded like metal clanging together was all that filled the space.

“Should we go check what’s going on?” Serena suddenly suggested.

While she did not want to believe it, she was worried that Urs was losing. If he went down, they would be left without protection. If that was going to happen, they would be better off heading in a different direction and looking for another exit out of the sewers.

This would have carried its own risks of course, but it was better than just waiting around to be captured.

Robert hesitated on how to respond for a few seconds, before finally shaking his head.

“No, let’s put our faith in Urs. He’s kept us safe through all of this, and he told us to stay here. If we wander around, he won’t be able to help us, and we might get caught by someone else.”

This was certainly a sound move, but Serena could not help but feel antsy. She did not know why, but she felt like they were both going to be in grave danger if they stayed where they were.

And as if to prove that her feeling was not just her imagination brought on by growing anxiety, something inexplicable suddenly occurred.

She watched as her husband was pulled up into the air and slammed against the tunnel wall.

From what she could tell there was nothing there, but for a moment when making contact with Robert, there was a slight shift in the air. A tell-tale sign of someone hidden under the cover of active camouflage.

“I’ve located the targets and am securing them now. Urs Orso is still engaged with the boss. I’ll start heading over towards point K with them. Send a team to meet me and have a transport ready for extraction.”
