Chapter 386: Chapter 386 Urs Vs Rook (5)
Having taken up position where he wanted to be, Urs threw his shield towards Rook.

It spun around rapidly like a disk as it cut through the air.

While this seemed like a very desperate attack from Urs since he was giving up on his strongest protective equipment, it was all part of his plan.

At the same instant he threw his shield, he flicked the flat of his blade at a small floating metal object and sent it flying in Rook’s direction. Making sure that it would be blocked from sight by the hard light shield.

Without waiting to see how things would unfold, Urs took off running. Knowing that he would not have a but a single moment to act even if things worked out perfectly.

“Did you think that something like this would work on me.”

Rook used his club and batted away the shield coming towards him with ease.

He had been slightly distracted by the blast caused by the plasma grenade that Urs had left behind, but not to the point that he would be caught off guard by something like this.

Yet the real crux of Urs’ strategy lay imperceptible as it traveled under and just slightly behind the rotating shield.

After he had knocked away the shield with a quick swipe of his club, the tiny metal sphere came into view, and Rook’s eyes went wide with realization.

He remembered these annoying devices well due to how much trouble they had given him earlier in his fight with Urs.

Zap spheres, as they had been nicknamed by the few people that used them, released a fairly powerful discharge for their size when activated. Though they were destroyed in the process.

Their intended purpose was not in fights amongst people as Urs had been using them, but for trapping and slowing down a specific large and fast-moving beast so that it could be safely tranquilized for capture.

The planet where these beasts lived was actually outside of the Dramid Alliance or any other major power. A hidden gem discovered by explorers that wanted to keep it a secret to rake in the profits by selling exotic beasts that could not be obtained by anyone else to collectors.

It certainly was not the most ethical practice, but Urs had been paid well to serve as a guard and had seen potential in the zap spheres. So, he had had some made for himself.

Originally, he had imagined that he would use them to slow down a large group chasing after him and Avery’s parents, but it just so happened that they also proved to be useful against Rook.

Now, one of the few that had survived after Rook had devastated the area with a strike from his club was just moments away from reaching him.

He tried to get out of the way, but by the time he had noticed the small sphere, it was already too late.

It impacted against his right side and burst apart. Releasing shrapnel that was harmless but also administering a shock that froze up Rook’s body for a fraction of a second.

Urs was already there with his sword in both hands, ready to strike.

When he had been formulating this plan, he had at first expected to use his plasma launcher to finish the job, but the time it took him to switch weapons possibly would have taken too long and he did not want to take the chance that Rook would recover in time to block the shot.

Time appeared to slow down for both Urs and Rook as Urs’ slash cut through the air between the two of them.

Urs had put his entire focus into this attack aimed to cleave Rook in half, while Rook was attempting to push his body to move again.

And through sheer determination, he managed to do so.

“Rahhhh!”

Rook yelled as he pushed his stunned muscles into action.

It was too late for him to bring his club around to block Urs’ hard light sword so he used the only thing he could. His own arm.

One might think that he was doing something similar to when he fought with Olvia, but there was a major difference this time.

During that battle, taking her attack had been a calculated move, but this time it was one of pure recklessness.

When the edge of the hard light sword reached Rook’s hand, it sliced through almost no resistance. As tough as he was, Rook was still a living being made out of flesh, blood, muscle, and bone. No part of him could stop the blade of a hard light weapon.

Yet, by tanking his arm to the side before the strike could cleave him in half, Rook was able to change the trajectory of Urs’ sword by pressing against the flat of the weapon that was carving through his arm.

Once Urs had finished his attack, most of Rook’s left arm fell to the floor. With only a thin layer of flesh and muscle remaining that dangled against his side.

Along with that grievous injury, his face was looking worse for wear.

The tip of Urs’ sword came at a slight angle and sliced off a large chunk of Rook’s left cheek. Leaving his teeth and the musculature of his mouth exposed.

No one around would say that these were light wounds, but it fell short of the killing blow that Urs was aiming for.

Of course, since Rook was still alive, he was not going to take this lying down.

Ignoring the excruciating pain he was in, he brought his club around and swung it at Urs in a fit of fury.

“Ugh!”

Not having the time to get away, Urs twisted around and received the blow with his sword.

He had to strain himself to the point where he could feel the muscles in his arms tear, but he managed to keep himself from being crushed to a pulp and used the force of the attack to skid away and out of Rook’s range.
