Chapter 384: Chapter 384 Urs Vs Rook (3)
Urs and Rook exchanged blows with each other for around two minutes before Urs backed off and created some distance between them.

He swung his sword experimentally a few times and his lips turned up into a slight smile that was almost imperceptible.

‘I’m starting to get a feel for it again now. It’s been over five years since I last used this sword, but it’s coming back to me now. Retired or not, I should have kept up with at least some training to be prepared for a situation like this.’ Urs thought, regretting allowing his skills with his hard light weapon to lapse.

Still, what was done was done, so he could not linger on the past for any longer and brought his entire focus back into the present battle.

Rook was a tough opponent. Probably one of the strongest that he had ever faced.

In his long career, Urs had come up against a number of people that he could count on one hand that could be considered true masters of close combat.

With the number of high-tech ranged weapons out there that could kill a person basically instantly from afar with only a bit of training, there were not too many that still honed their skills with melee weaponry.

However, those that did were forces to be feared.

They were the types that could charge headfirst at an armed squadron of troops and tear them apart singlehandedly. Something Urs had already seen Rook do while fighting the Alliance Police.

“Are you done with your warmup now?” Rook asked, an impatient expression on his face.

Hearing this, what Urs had feared was almost guaranteed to be true now.

During their exchange of blow so far, Rook had been more passive than earlier in the battle.

It had struck Urs as odd, since there were times that he was expecting Rook to capitalize on an opening and he was ready to dodge or block, but a strike never came.

That was not to say that Rook had been completely passive, he had thrown out attacks that would have devastated the average mercenary in one blow if not outright killed them.

Nevertheless, there had been a clear lack of ferocity compared to what the man was capable of.

Urs understood that if his opponent had not been holding himself back a bit, he likely would have suffered some meaningful damage while getting accustomed to fighting this way again.

‘I’ll make him regret gibing me a chance to get a sense for the sword again. This won’t just be entertaining for him, it’ll be deadly.’

“Yeah, it’s been a few years, so a couple minutes of practice did wonder for me. I’ll make sure to give you everything you deserve now.”

Despite the clear intentions of Urs’ words, Rook did not look bothered in the slightest.

What he was here for was to scratch his itch for a good battle that had been building up for a long time now. Something that he had not initially expected when he and Clarien dragged their forces out to the middle of nowhere in the Dramid Alliance to abduct Avery’s parents.

Feeling more confident now and knowing that there would not be any better time, Urs lowered his posture and rushed forward. Ready to exchange blows with Rook for real now.

He started off with a swift slash from below, but that was merely a feint.

Without letting his eyes give away his true intentions, Urs twisted on the tip of his toes and spun around to deliver a stab to Rook’s side.

There was a flash of light and a resounding clanging sound as Urs’ hard light sword met Rook’s high density metal club.

He could feel his opponent about to push against him and use his greater strength to knock him off balance, but Urs was already moving into his next attack.

So far, he had refrained from doing so, but now was the perfect time for him to throw out a shield bash.

His sword was locked in place with Rook’s club, making it difficult for Rook to get it around in time to block Urs’ next attack.

With every bit of might in his body, Urs did manage to slam his shield forward and connect with Rook, but the giant bahnen pulled off an unexpected feat of dexterity and agility. Managing to lift his leg up and kick against Urs’ shield as the strike came towards him.

Having the more solid footing, Urs was the one that one out and pushed his adversary back despite the difference in strength between them.

However, this was still in line with what Rook wanted and as he gained a bit of distance, he spun his body around quickly and aimed his club at Urs’ head.

Bending his body back to the point he could barely keep himself upright, Urs evaded the swing and the subsequent blast from its shockwave generator.

Currently in the air, Rook was blown back by the recoil of his own attack, but he landed back on the ground without trouble and dug his heels in to stop his momentum before crashing into the side of the sewer.

Once Urs had pulled himself back up, he immediately launched back into another series of attacks.

His fighting style had a lot more speed and finesse to it compared to his opponent’s, so he almost always needed to be on the attack to avoid being put on the back foot.

Defending against Rook’s attacks was no easy feat due to his overwhelming power. This meant that the best way to deal with him was to keep on the offensive and rarely give him an opening to strike and being ready to swiftly dodge whenever he did make an attack.

Of course, this was the method that most people used against Rook. At least the ones that did not immediately try to run away.

Olivia had fought in a similar manner, but all it took was one solid opening for Rook to turn the tides and quickly defeat her.

Eventually, the opportunity to strike presented itself during their intense battle. And Rook was no longer holding back and made sure to capitalize on this opening against Urs.
