Chapter 374: Chapter 374 Battle on the Streets of Yuson II
Once Urs appeared in front of them, the five members of Rook’s and Clarien’s organization hastily pulled out their weapon and turned them towards him.
Seeing a large half bahnen man running towards them, they immediately gave up the façade of just being normal citizens. No average person was going to pull out laser rifles hidden behind baggy clothing like they just had.
Fortunately, Urs had seized the initiative and got the first shot off while his enemies were still reacting to his appearance.
He aimed at the ground just in front of the five of them and fired his laser cannon.
This blast caused a spray of rock and dust to shoot up from the destroyed concrete road.
A spray of laser fire came from the five people a couple moments later, but Urs had already leapt up onto the side of a building and had affixed himself there with a thick spike that had jammed into the side of the wall.
Thanks to the cover from the dust he had kicked up into the air, his adversaries did not spot him, and the hammer he had on him kept their scanners from pinpointing his exact location even if they knew he was close by.
Urs put an immense amount of strength into his arms and pushed off from where he was hanging. Vaulting over the five people rapidly firing their weapons down an empty alleyway and landing right behind them.
The first one he targeted never even understood what happened.
Urs had jammed his laser rifle into their back to bypass their personal shield generator and fired multiple times into their vitals.
While the individual was still midfall on the verge of death, Urs titled his left hand slightly to the side and shot his laser cannon at the next closest hostile.
An intense flash of light followed, and the individual’s shield broke apart from the impact of the blast and they were sent flying towards a wall that they hit and bounced off of.
After he had taken out two of them, the other three had already caught on to what he had done and swiftly moved back a few paces and aimed their weapons at him.
Urs did not have time to create a smokescreen and jump out of the way like before, but three guns firing at him was more manageable than five.
Despite having been retired for a while now, his movements were still sharp as he carefully watched the trajectories of his opponents’ weapons and dodged their attacks at the last moment.
He weaved through the lasers with practiced steps that had practically become a reflex over time.
Watching their target for elimination so easily avoid their attacks, the three remaining people tried to compensate by firing more erratically and hoping to score a hit by throwing Urs off.
However, their attempt failed to work on Urs, and he quickly closed the distance on them. Being outnumbered, he was at a disadvantage in a long or midrange firefight, but he was more than confident in taking all of them down from up close.
Of course, his opponents realized this as well, and one of them started to panic now that Urs had closed in on them.
He had watched how two of their members had gone down without being able to put up a fight, and just from this short confrontation, he knew that the rest of them were no match for Urs either.
“F*ck this!”
Feeling a sense of dread as Urs got closer, the man pulled a cylindrical device out of a belt pouch and threw it on the ground.
He had no time to warn his teammates what he was doing, so they were completely caught off guard by what was going on.
For just a moment Urs’ eyes went wide as he recognized the item just impacting the ground and then bouncing up.
It was not something one would typically use when in such close proximity unless they were desperate.
Nevertheless, Urs knew how to respond. He simply closed his eyes and charged forward.
A moment later, there was a loud flash and defending boom as the stun grenade went off.
The one that had dropped the stun grenade had turned away and started running, but his two compatriots ended up blinded and shaken up by it since they had no prior warning.
As for Urs, he had shut his eyes and braced himself without stopping.
He had chaged right through and quickly gained on the individual trying to run away.
When he caught up to the man, he pulled back his arm and with a heavy swing slammed his laser cannon down like a club.
There was a resounding sound of bone shattering as he stuck the guy’s left shoulder, and the force of the blow knocked him to the ground.
“H-how?” The man wheezed out.
“I’ve taken a lot worse than that stun grenade before. It was a cute idea, but you’d need to do better than that to catch me off guard.”
Mercilessly, Urs pushed his laser rifle up against the man’s back and fired. Blasting right through his heart and killing him virtually instantly.
He then quickly whipped around to deal with the other two that were still reeling from the stun grenade.
Like him, they seemed to be wearing earplugs that were used to block out dangerously loud noises, but they had not been able to shield their eyes in time and had ended up momentarily blinded.
Knowing that this scuffle was bound to have attracted some attention, Urs hurried over to the last two enemies to finished them off.
He slammed both of them up against a wall and placed his laser rifle under one they chins, and his laser cannon under the other.
Closing both of his index fingers around the triggers of his weapons; he killed the two men in one fell swoop by blasting a hole in their heads.
‘I’m glad that lowering the output on the laser cannon worked. I’ve never used it this way and was afraid that things might have ended up a bit messy.’
Urs was just about to holster his two weapons and go retrieve Robert and Serena when he heard the sound of a weapon being fired.
Hastily he turned around, ready to continue fighting.
Yet what he saw was not an enemy pointing a weapon at him, but Serena holding the laser pistol he had given her an aiming it further down the alley.
Glancing in the direction that she was looking, he saw the person he had blown away earlier with his laser cannon lying face down on the ground with their weapon in their hands.
It was obvious to Urs what had just happened.
The enemy he thought was already down had struggled to get back up and make a desperate attack against him.
Witnessing this, Serena had jumped in and fired first. Killing the man before he could shoot at Urs.
‘I wish she had not done so though. I would have been fine. But killing someone for the first time can be hard to get over.’ Urs thought, already capable of assessing Serena’s emotional state from her expression and the ways that her hands were shaking.
Unfortunately, there was no time to address the situation or try to comfort her.
No doubt their enemies were on the move already to close in on them and prevent them from escaping.
“The way is clear now, but it won’t stay that way for long. We need to run. If either of you slows down, I’ll pick you up like luggage and carry you under my arms. So, if you don’t want that to happen, keep up.”
After renewing the sense of urgency of their situation, Urs took off running. With Robert and Serena following behind him a second later.
Both of their thoughts may have been in turmoil from what had just occurred, but the threat to their lives kept them moving.
When the three of them burst onto a main street, there were already multiple teams of those hunting them that had arrived.
Giving up their pretense despite the open and public location, they all pulled out weapons and charged. Avoiding using lethal long-range attacks to avoid hitting Robert and Serena who they wanted to take alive
Truthfully, he was surprised by their brazenness, but that did not stop him from immediately responding.
To protect himself and Avery’s parents, he grabbed the hardlight shield at his waist and activated it.
In a flash it sprung to life and covered his entire body and then some.
“Stay close and don’t stop for anything. We need to get across this street and into the alleys over there.” Urs said as he dashed forward.
Some electrified blasts from advanced stun guns came flying their way to stop them, but Urs easily blocked them all with his shield.
Thankfully, there was still some distance between them and their attackers, and they managed to slip into the alley on the other side before being caught up to.
“Keep going until the first left turn. Take that and go down the alley until the second right. After that you’ll find an opening in the wall to the left not too far down. Go inside and go as deep as you can. I’ll slow our pursuers down so that they can’t catch up. I’ll meet back up with you soon.”
Once he had given them directions, Urs slowed down and turned around. He knew that Robert and Serena were not the fastest people. At this rate their enemies would catch up to them. So, he would need to serve as a very difficult roadblock to slow them down.
