Chapter 358: Chapter 358
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. You just woke up after inexplicable brain damage. I know that you’re tough, but you should rest and be monitored for at least another day. Jasmine, Ezra, and Olivia can deal with the Alliance Police for now.” Kasandra said, a worried expression on her face.

Obviously if the person you loved suddenly collapsed from an injury that could kill or at least cripple most people for no explainable reason, it was understandable to be extremely concerned.

Still, even if Avery had no clue exactly how he had gained the power to view the flow of energy, it was at least apparent that overtaxing himself using the ability for too long was what had been the cause of the damage to his brain.

Avery could not say he had no worries, but he felt confident that so long as the extrasensory perception did not show itself again, that he would be fine.

‘It’s only every made itself present when I was in the middle of tough battles. I doubt that a meeting will cause any problems.’

“Sorry Kasandra, I understand your unease, but this is something I need to do. Would you mind directing me to where everyone is gathered, while I message Jasmine on the way over that I’m coming.” Avery said, his tone calm but commanding.

Seeing that Avery was going to be stubborn here, she growled lowly for a moment as if trying to intimidate him. Yet he did not back down even at her obvious show of displeasure.

“Fine. If you collapse again though, or heck, if you even look to be mildly in discomfort, I’m going to tie you up and drag you back to the medical pod. Then we’ll head directly towards the nearest station with advanced medical facilities to have you checked out. No matter what, you’re my top priority. Everything else be damned if that’s what it takes for me to keep you safe.”

A chill ran down Avery’s spine as he could easily imagine Kasandra and Jasmine working together to restrain him if they thought he was being too reckless and willfully ignoring his health.

Obviously, they cared about him to an incredible degree, as he did for them as well.

“Okay, I’ll make sure not to overexert myself and if should I feel the slightest sign of something wrong with me, I’ll tell you and leave without resistance.” Avery said, holding his hands up in defeat.

Kasandra nodded her head rapidly in an exaggerated show of acceptance and then began leading the way towards where other leaders of Avery’s team were discussing things with Cerise.

When they walked off of the Dauntless, Avery was greeted by the sight of a fairly sizable hangar.

There were several shuttle craft lined up next to each other on multiple levels the rose up around a hundred meters high.

These ships were only equipped with light weapons and shielding, and were primarily meant for transporting people to and from the battleship, or for responding to evacuations.

However, something far more eye-catching was a heavily armed corvette in the middle of the hangar that took up a large portion of the space.

While this battleship may have been Cerise’s main vessel, she had turned a corvette into her own personal assault ship for when she wanted to charge into battle herself.

Certainly, she was an accomplished commander, but Avery knew full well that her skills as a pilot were top notch and that there were not many that could fight on the same level as her.

Next to the corvette was also a conspicuous green colored ship that Avery recognized well.

It was the same craft that Cerise had used during the coemption that had been designed by Ravasz Dynamics.

‘Maybe it was part of the deal she made with the company that she got to keep it, or perhaps she liked it so much that she had one ordered ahead of schedule for her personal use. Being the greatest hero the Dramid Alliance currently has must come with some perks.’

Avery could not help marveling at the interior of an Alliance Police battleship’s hangar.

It was an impressive sight and went to show just how massive the vessel was.

Even though it was not a dedicated carrier ship, it still had this much room to store other vessels within it.

Regrettably, while Avery wanted to wander around and examine everything closely, this was not the time for a leisurely stroll around.

A pair of officers had come to escort Avery and Kasandra, and the two of them followed intently behind them.

Soon they found themselves entering onto a lift the swiftly moved up seven decks before sliding vertically along a track at around forty kilometers per hour.

On a ship this big, people could not be expected to walk everywhere, so there was an extensive network of transport devices to get people from one place to another.

‘The size of this place is almost overwhelming. It’s around as big as the craft I have Storren Corp. working on for me right about now though, so I’ll need to get used to a place like this soon.’ Avery thought, his mind currently occupied by the intricacies of Cerise’s battleship.

Nevertheless, Avery’s mind could not be preoccupied with his surroundings forever, and eventually they reached the main meeting room aboard the battleship.

When the doors slid open, Avery immediately saw Jasmine, Ezra, and Olivia sitting at a long rectangular table.

Cerise Gunvald was sitting directly across from Jasmine, and on each side of her were four of her high ranking subordinates.

“Come on in and take a seat. There’s a lot that we need to address concerning what happened.”

Following Cerise’s request, Avery entered the room and found that Jasmine had gotten up and moved one seat over to allow him to take the place sitting across from the commander.

Sitting down, Avery stared intently at the officer that had come to his teams aid and attempted to gauge her expression.

It was difficult to tell, but the slightest hint of relief creeped into the corner of her eyes, and while she seemed slightly tired, her mood was not particularly bad so far as Avery could tell.

“It’s good to see you again, and in fine health. From what I heard about your condition, it sounded quite serious.” Cerise said, her outward concern masking a probing intent.

Avery figured that she was wondering if his injuries had been exaggerated as some sort of negotiating tactic, or possibly for some other reason only he and his team knew.

This was understandable, since most people would not be able to recover on their own from the brain damage Avery had incurred. It was only thanks to the unique organ he possessed that allowed him to be here now.

“Thank you, I really was in dire straits for a bit. But I don’t think we’re here to talk about my condition. The incident that occurred between my team and the Alliance Police of this system is far more important.

Avery stared at Serious with a serious look in his eyes and beckoned her to move on. He had no intention on discussing his condition with her any further.

“Very well, I’ve already been discussing this matter with Jasmine, Ezra, and Olivia here, but you being the leader of your group, your input will be necessary for a final decision.”

Cerise had already taken Commander Triswei and her coconspirators into custody while the investigation was ongoing.

Of course, with the evidence that Avery’s team had already provided as well as records and testimonies that Cerise’s crew had turned up, it was already confirmed that that a majority of the upper ranking Alliance Police in this system had severely broken the law.

As such their ranks would be stripped following a formal court martial and they would sentenced for their crimes.

Avery’s team was also at liberty to pursue damages incurred by the rogue members of the Alliance Police.

Except, while things could have worked out smoothly if none of the Alliance Police ships had been lost, Avery finishing off one of the destroyers had made things more complicated.

That had constituted the loss of hundreds of innocent crew members that had merely been following the orders of their corrupt superiors, and the destruction of a valuable warship worth around fifty million Krenin.

“We were attacked first, and I had a right to defend myself and my team.” Avery asserted.

“Under normal circumstances, yes. But you destroyed and Alliance Police vessel and killed every person onboard. That’s not something that can just be waved away. I’ve been in contact with central command, and a lot of the top brass want to charge you or at least collect monetary damages for the destroyed ship and dead crew members.”

“They want to talk about losses. Seven members of my team were unjustly killed by corrupt police working with priates so that they could cover up their crimes! If anyone deserves compensation, it’s their families!”

Avery was visibly upset by how things were proceeding.

The sting of his subordinates’ deaths was still fresh, and he could not stand being persecuted here when they were the victims.

“Calm down. I was just relaying what some of the people from the central command are calling for. Naturally, there are some nuances to this case, so listen to the end before having another outburst. We both already know what happens when we just assume things.” Cerise said, hinting back to their confrontation at Nianni’s concert when they fought each other because of the uncertainly they both had held.
