Chapter 335: Chapter 335 New Friendships and Farewell to the Capital System
Seeing that Nianni knew very little about her own powers and their special connection to him, Avery decided to steer the conversation in another direction.
He figured that trying to delve deeper and attempting to use Nianni’s powers to better understand them might end up being too dangerous.
In this situation, he figured that it would be better to let sleeping dogs lie.
Instead, Avery asked Nianni more about her work as a famous singer and in turn told her more about being a mercenary and some stories of his adventures.
This also gave Kasandra and Jasmine more opportunities to jump into the conversation, and the two of them happily did so.
Having already felt Nianni’s strong emotions to befriend them through her small psychic outburst earlier, they had a decent understanding of her desires.
It was difficult for her to make any real friendships.
There were a lot of people that just wanted to get close to her for personal gain or were too big of fans to treat her like just another person. And when she did find the rare genuine individual, circumstances often made it impossible for them to see each other.
Due to her concert schedule, Nianni was almost always on the move. She never stayed in one place for long before heading off to the next location where she was meant to perform.
For most people, they never strayed far from their homes.
Space travel was quite dangerous after all. If it was not, then there would not be so much demand for mercenaries like Avery and his team.
“Since we’re both in pretty mobile professions, we can at least try to make plans to meet up.” Nianni said, her emotions once again escaping through her and reaching Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine.
Now that he knew what this was, he did not instinctually block it like he had before.
The fact that Nianni was communicating with them in this manner, even if it was not fully in her control, showed that she trusted them already.
Since this ability was triggered by her strong desires, it would never end up being directed at those she disliked or found dishonest.
‘Hope, anticipation, fear, and a few others that are a bit weaker. She’s really feeling quite a bit right now.’ Avery thought as Nianni’s feelings were transmitted to him.
It made him wonder how long it had been since she had the chance to try and make a connection with someone other than through business.
“Sure, we already planned on doing so. We’re going to be pretty busy for the next few months but after that, I think we’ll have the time. Perhaps we’ll make it part of our honeymoon to come and see you live. Jasmine really wanted to this time, but was too busy, and I did promise her.”
It was Nianni’s turn to be shocked into silence.
She had not expected to hear about Avery and Jasmine’s wedding so suddenly.
Of course, she knew that he was in a relationship with both Jasmine and Kasandra but did not know that they had progressed so far.
With a flood of questions, Nianni asked them about when and where it would be, and any other detail that she could think of.
“Would it be okay if I come by? I’d even be willing to sing at the ceremony.” Nianni said bashfully.
“I’d love that. But what about your schedule. It’s not like you can drop everything that you’ve already got planned.”
Obviously, Jasmine was ecstatic to hear that Nianni wanted to come to her wedding and had offered to sing for her and Avery.
Except, they were still in the budding phase of their friendship. Jasmine did not want to seem like she was taking advantage of her right from the start.
“I’ve been fairly good and followed nearly everything that my managers have told me to do. With what just happened, I think that I can get away with being a little selfish. Since Azade’s chancellor will be there, they’ll be plenty of security so that shouldn’t be an issue. Plus, I’ll be relatively close to the system at that time.” Nianni said exuberantly.
However, what she considered to be relatively close was still a two-week journey if one did not make a single stop.
That meant she would need to take up over a month of time just to attend their wedding.
This undoubtably would not be an easy feat to pull off.
She would have to miss out on several interviews, rehearsals, and fan meetings in order to do so. And she would only just be able to keep up with the performances she was already obligated to attend.
“If I can’t get permission. You guys can just come and kidnap me. I know how to give my security the slip if I need to.”
Avery was surprised to hear this suggestion from her, considering what had recently happened.
Someone had just tried to abduct her, so it must not have been easy for her to be joking about one.
Nevertheless, she was certainly serious. There was nothing that was going to stop her from attending the wedding of her new friends.
“Maybe we shouldn’t call it us kidnapping you and instead just picking you up. If you can’t get permission normally, and it comes down to that, I’ll come get you myself. My ship’s got decent facilities, so I don’t think you’ll be uncomfortable there.” Kasandra said, jumping onboard the plan to whisk Nianni away if it was necessary.
Avery felt that this could lead to a great deal of trouble in the future, but there was no way he was going to be able to stop it. Nor did he particularly want to.
Already just in the basic planning stages of their little scheme, he could feel the four of them becoming closer.
‘I guess that Nianni’s wish managed to reach us already. Maybe this is the truly scary part of her powers.’ Avery thought as his lips turned up into a wide smile.
Both Kasandra and Jasmine were already opening up to Nianni.
For the two of them that were typically quite reserved with new people, this was astounding.
Naturally, it was in large part because they had already been major fans of Nianni’s work, but throughout the conversation, something had already changed.
Just as Nianni wanted, they were no longer looking at her like some unreachable star to be enamored from afar and treated her like some ideal.
They recognized the person behind the performer. Just a young woman looking for a bit of companionship that was difficult for her to find.
Energetically, the four of them made their plans together, looking even beyond the wedding for times when they could meet up.
Eventually, when they became satisfied with what they had figured out, they moved on to talking about their hobbies instead.
Being mercenaries that spent a large portion of their time traveling through space, Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine were experts at passing the time.
Nianni on the other hand, seemed to spend most of her time working.
If she was not practicing, or planning for events, she was often writing songs in her room. She apparently had dozens that had never been debuted nor would be, since they had not been approved by her company.
“I see, so you’re work and hobbies have blended together. I can’t say that I’m too different. Sometimes I hope on the simulator just for fun.” Avery said.
He then sent Nianni over some programs that she could try out if she was interested, and a few games that he Kasandra, and Jasmine enjoyed playing together.
Most of them required being within the same system to play, since the signals would lag otherwise, but a few of them were turned based and would allow for connections even over long distance. The players just had to wait a bit of time for their opponent’s inputs to reach them depending on the distance.
“This really has been so much fun. I wish that you could stay longer.” Nianni said with a dejected expression as she led Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine to the door.
The four of them had talked for hours and just hung out. It had been an enjoyable experience for all of them.
However, Nianni had other items on her agenda that she could not push back any further. Her stay in the Dramid System had already been extended because of the failed abduction, so she would be leaving the next day and had to make preparations.
“Don’t worry, we can still chat with each other everyday if you want. And we’ll see you in a few months. You can bet on that.” Jasmine said reassuringly.
Once they had finished saying their goodbyes, Avery, Kasandra and Jasmine left the room and were escorted back down to the lobby. From there they returned to their ships and prepared to leave.
“Jasmine, send a message to Ezra, Kaiden, and Olivia. It’s time for us to get back to work. Inform them that we’ll be leaving in three days and to stock up on whatever they need in that time. Ah, and send a transmission to Burke as well. Now that we’re done here, it’s time that we meet back up. We’re going to be using our entire force going forward.”
With his newly appointed co-pilot typing away at her station, Avery slowly raised the Dauntless up and exited the hotel’s hangar.
It had ended up taking a lot longer and being more arduous than he expected, but everything that needed to be accomplished within the capital system was finally finished. It was time for him and his team to move on.
