Chapter 140: One Year & Two Months
One year and two months later, it was a new semester for Manhattan High students. Godfrey’s peers were now entering the school to begin their senior year.

Police patrols were still more common than usual around the globe, but it had dropped to about ten percent of what it once was. The previous year had been terrible for Manhattan Summoner’s High after a student murdered three hundred policemen, and Manhattan was accused of training a humanoid summoner, resulting in the imprisonment of the headmaster.

Sitting in the third-year students’ class, Janet looked out the window, staring at those coming in with her friend.

“First day of the semester,” Gum Girl said, smirking as she watched sleek cars drive into the wide entrance where students came in from.

“Now that they’re seniors, the dorms don’t apply to them anymore. Most of them are pretty rich, and of course they’ll be showing off their status,” she said while looking at the cars.

From the white one, Snow came out of the backseat. As he shut the door, the car drove out of the school. Now 186 cm tall with a more mature and sharp jawline, he slung his white backpack over his shoulder, walking toward the building while gathering attention to himself just by walking.

“I heard Snow spent his break in Egypt. He’s obsessed with getting stronger despite breaking several world records. His summon isn’t even the Glimmer Wing Butterfly anymore,” Janet said softly.

“Whatever it is now, it’s clearly made him more handsome. Snow’s just modeling our uniform for free. The school should pay him, the new additions in our class came because of his picture on the billboard,” Gum Girl said with wide eyes, following Snow’s movements.

Suddenly, two black cars drove in. Their quality stood out even amongst the other vehicles, and from the look of the dragon brand on one and the snake on the other, they were custom-made cars, made just for members of the strongest families in this region.

As the back doors of the one with the dragon brand opened, Isolde and Lucy came out. Now in their eighteenth year, both girls had fully developed figures, and with Isolde’s regular visitation to the gym, her figure was beyond admirable.

And, of course, as a young woman who valued the upkeep of her looks, her porcelain skin was glowing.

Her golden-orange eyes went to the opposite car from which a black-haired eighteen-year-old stepped out with a calm face.

His irises were crimson and reptilian, a look achieved through Echo, but it made his eyes a trap for the ladies.

However, when his eyes met Isolde’s, they turned ice cold.

“Leander Ouroboros,” Janet said, staring at the tall, 190 cm senior. He came to Manhattan last year and was like Godfrey 2.0, but more dominating, and had all the past seniors, which was Percival’s class, at his back.

He became King, had great wooing skills that quickly made him popular, but Isolde, Manhattan’s Queen, was his arch-nemesis.

Isolde was the giant dragon that ruled the skies, and Leander was the titanic snake that dominated the earth.

“Ouroboros is the second most powerful family in this region. Leander is their most promising heir, Isolde is the best of her generation, but why does Leander want to defeat her and prove he’s superior?” Gum Girl pouted.

“They could become close like how Isolde was with Godfrey. I mean, they’re so similar. Both crazily good-looking, both insanely wealthy, both have dual summons that are really powerful, and they also have this dominating air around them,” she added.

Someone groaned behind them. Both girls turned and saw the one groaning was a male student.

“I’m salivating at that name. Godfrey Daniels… the man with big money on his name. Catching him will make me one of the richest in this school!”

“Totally! The dude’s family has made bounty hunting boom since last year. I could change my life and that of my generation with a billion, and I heard his mother is just a doctor. It wouldn’t take much to catch her.”

“Cecil found out and leaked the news that the Shadow King beat Damien, Vin, and Tyla back then. They’re all famous Officials in well-known squads now, but the fact still stands, Godfrey isn’t weak,” Janet said.

“He’s not unbeatable either. Leander and Isolde are the unbeatable ones.”

“He stopped a red gate from causing havoc!” Janet retaliated.

Her classmate rose to his feet, slamming his head on his desk.

“For all we know, it was the former headmaster Sebastian doing all that propaganda. Probably to get us to believe humanoid summoners are not dangerous. Well, guess what? He should have gone through Readjustment Class from the start!”

“You’ll miss the show if you keep arguing about someone who’s been missing for over a year. He might be dead for all we know,” Gum Girl interrupted as she turned back to the window.

Another girl at a different seat turned to her.

“Wasn’t Leander trying to date Lucy?”

“That was before his fallout with Isolde. He must have realized that’s a pipe dream,” Gum Girl replied.

“There he is. The Shadow King’s protégé,” Janet whispered, gazing at Isaac who entered the vicinity through a different path meant for those coming from the dormitory.

His light brown curly hair, that looked well attended to, judging by its gleam, almost covered his eyes.

He was now 185 cm tall with a build rivaling students like Leander. With one hand in his pocket, he strolled in with a nonchalant expression.

“Isaac!” Lucy called out, waving at the seventeen-year-old starting his first day as a junior. He was the top candidate for the new King.

Isaac smiled and jogged over. Seeing Isolde’s soft smile, he smiled back. Back as a freshman, he naturally had a crush on Isolde. Who didn’t? But when he got to know Godfrey and saw his moments with her, Isaac felt they were perfect.

However, since Godfrey vanished, that part of Isolde died. It felt like all those times had been just a mirage.

Just a dream.

As they exchanged pleasantries, Leander walked up to them.
