Chapter 299: Prelude To the Store’s First Opening
The next morning, as the sun rose into the sky and slowly lit up Velaris, Liam was already awake. He had not slept at all.

Instead, he spent the entire night lying on the roof of the inn with his hands behind his head, watching the stars drift above him. His mind was clear, almost empty, without any plans or thoughts running wild as usual.

It was a refreshing experience for him, one he did not expect to enjoy as much as he did.

The quiet night breeze, the two moons hanging slowly, the city lights below him, and the silence around him gave him a calm he had not felt in a while. He stayed there until the first warm rays of the sun appeared in the distance.

When enough light had touched the rooftops, Liam sat up and stretched his shoulders lightly. He pulled his Lucid out from the Dimensional Space and sent Chrises a short message, telling her that he was waiting for her at the same restaurant where they ate their breakfast yesterday. After sending it, he placed the Lucid back on his head and stood at the edge of the roof.

He jumped off and landed softly on the street. The morning air was cool, and a few early birds walked past him carrying goods. He started walking toward the restaurant with a relaxed pace.

Today was the opening day of the store. He was curious to see how Velaris would react to the Lucid. He did not expect huge crowds yet, but he expected enough attention to start forming a steady trend. And if not today, then in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Chrises had just woken up. She sat upright on her bed slowly, rubbing her eyes with both hands. Her hair was a little messy from sleep and her expression looked distant, as if her mind was still trying to catch up with her body.

She turned to the small table beside the bed and her gaze landed on the Lucid resting there. She reached for it, touched it with her fingers, then picked it up and wore it.

A soft sound played as the device turned on. A second later, a small notification popped up in her vision. She almost dropped the Lucid in surprise. This was still new to her.

She opened the message and saw Liam’s name. The moment she saw it, she smiled slightly and she read the content of his message.

After she was done, she used the device for the very first time and awkwardly replied:

“Good morning, master. I will be there soon.”

She put the Lucid aside and stood up from the bed. She washed her face, brushed her hair and got dressed quickly. Her hands moved faster than usual. She did not want to keep him waiting. But even as she prepared, her thoughts wandered back to yesterday.

It went back to the store, the machines, Lucid, Lucy. Everything.

She felt like she had stepped into another world that impossible things were still normal. She still could not understand how such a world could be real. And she still could not understand how someone like Liam came from that world.

She adjusted her clothes and left her room. She walked through the hallway, left the inn and stepped into the morning air. Her steps were steady as she headed toward the restaurant, though her heart felt light with excitement and nervousness.

She was looking forward to opening the store today. She wanted to see how people reacted when they tried the Lucid for the first time. Would they understand it? Would they fear it? Would they fight over it? She wondered how many people would come. She wondered if they would need guards. She wondered if nobles would try to seize the shop by force. She wondered if the device would spread across the kingdom like wildfire.

The Lucid was revolutionary for Velaris, but what caught her attention the most was not the skill learning or the buying of spells. It was the communication feature.

This world had terrible communication systems. Letters took days. Messengers and horses gets tired easily. Magic crystals could only work within a short distance and they were expensive. Worst of all, they required mana. If someone doesn’t have mana were to find themselves in a situation where they can’t access their mana, they could not use the crystal ball at all. And that’s if they had it in the first place.

Velaris’ capital alone spanned more than 95,000 square kilometers. And even within the same city, many people could not talk to each other if the distance was too far, as the crystal ball’s distance is 100 miles. The communication weakness created chaos, misunderstandings, delays, and trouble across the kingdom.

But Liam told her that the Lucid could reach anyone, anywhere, without mana, without distance limits, and without effort. That alone was enough to change the world. To her, the learning function was a bonus compared to communication. She wondered if others would see it that way too.

She also felt uneasy because the Lucid was too valuable, too powerful and too tempting. People like nobles, merchants and the mage towers would want to claim ownership. They would try to take the shop. They would try to pressure the owner. They would try to steal the device or force Liam to work under them.

But while she felt uneasy, she wasn’t scared. On the contrary, she was excited.

She had seen what Liam could do. She had seen what he controlled. She had seen the robots, Lucy, and technologies—things she doesn’t understand yet. She felt—deep inside—that nothing in Velaris could truly threaten him. If nobles tried to use their influence, Liam would crush them without effort. She wanted to see it happen with her own eyes.

Chrises’ lips curved into a small smile. She was feeling a a strange feeling at the moment, but she liked it.

She entered the restaurant and looked around. Liam sat by the window, eating his breakfast calmly with the morning light shining behind him. She felt a strange sense of pride as she walked toward him.

“Good morning, master,” She greeted him softly when she reached the table and sat down.

Liam looked up and greeted her back, then asked, “How was your night?”

Chrises smiled, thanked him for asking, and replied, “My night was wonderful.”

It was not fully true, but it was not a lie either. She didn’t sleep much, but the peace she felt afterward was more than enough.

Liam nodded and said, “Order your breakfast.”

Chrises nodded once, waved at the server and placed her order. When the server left, she sat straight and folded her hands gently on her lap, waiting silently.

Liam glanced at her and noticed something different in her expression. Yesterday, her eyes were full of shock, confusion, and questions. But today, her eyes carried a quiet spark. A mix of confidence, excitement and curiosity. She looked like someone ready to face anything today brought.

He took another bite of his food and asked, “Are you ready for the store opening?”

Chrises nodded immediately. “Yes. I’m ready.”

Liam watched her closely. “You seem calmer today.”

She smiled faintly. “I had a lot of time to think about yesterday and process everything. But… I’m fine now. I understand a little better. I also trust that everything will go well.”

Liam raised an eyebrow. “Trust?”

She nodded again. “Because you are the one behind it. Nothing will happen that you cannot handle.”

Liam blinked once, then smiled quietly. He never expected to hear something like that from ger. He wondered if she really meant it or if she was just being polite.

Either way, it doesn’t change anything. Today’s going to be a big day for them.
