Chapter 292: Purchasing The Store
Liam and Chrises left the restaurant once they were done eating. The morning sun had risen fully now, washing Velaris in soft gold and throwing faint shadows across the busy streets.

People moved about with steady rhythm and quiet chatter. Merchants opened stalls, nobles rode past in small carriages, and guards in polished armor marched through the main roads.

Chrises led the way, and Liam followed behind her with calm steps. Her posture was straight, composed, and purposeful, but he could still sense the faint stiffness in her shoulders—the remnants of her earlier embarrassment. He didn’t comment on it. He didn’t need to because he knew she would settle down once her mind focused on work.

As they walked deeper into the capital, the scenery changed completely and it felt like they entered a completely different region.

Velaris was large, but the capital district was organized in clear layers. The farther in they traveled, the better the roads became. The houses grew larger, and the people… more refined.

Liam noticed this immediately. The area they were entering had wide marble sidewalks, tall buildings, elegant lamps, and heavily armored guards patrolling in pairs and nobles walked leisurely.

Chrises looked back at him. “We’ve entered the commerce district,” she said. “This is the section where the nobles, high-ranking merchants, and the wealthy conduct their business.”

Liam nodded. “Makes sense. It looks expensive.”

Chrises almost smiled at that.

A group of young nobles walked past them in fancy coats, laughing loudly about someone’s failed duel. Their voices lowered slightly when they noticed Chrises, and their eyes flicked toward Liam. They stared a little longer than necessary, before they moved on.

One whispered, “Who is he? I haven’t seen him before.”

Another said, “He looks like he’s now from around here. His clothes are fancy though.”

A third muttered, “Probably a noble from another kingdom.”

Liam heard all of it, but he didn’t react. His expression stayed calm, and his steps never paused.

Chrises turned down a street lined with large shops that looked more like buildings than stores.

They finally arrived in front of the store Chrises recommended.

The building was tall, wide, and well-positioned near a busy intersection. It had a polished stone exterior, a reinforced wooden door, and plenty of windows for display. It was obvious the store was meant for high traffic and high profit.

Chrises turned to him and said, “This is the one.”

Liam stepped inside. The space was empty but clean. The room opened into a wide hall with smooth wooden floors and high ceilings. There were smaller rooms in the back, most likely for storage or work areas.

He walked around slowly, observing the structure.

“It’s big,” he said.

Chrises nodded. “Yes. It’s considerably larger than shops in lower districts. Those cost between five to twelve thousand gold coins. This one is thirty-five thousand.”

“That’s fine,” Liam nodded without hesitation when he heard this price.

He was about to take out the gold coins, but then paused. Instead of pulling out the gold coins just like that because he doesn’t have pouch, he reached into his Dimensional Space, grabbed a school backpack, and poured exactly thirty-five thousand gold coins inside.

Chrises was slightly surprised when she saw the school bag, as it looked almost similar to the duffel bag he gave her. She couldn’t help but wonder how many more he has, what exactly they are made of and how they are made. She was really curious.

After he was done, he zipped the bag shut and handed it to Chrises, and asked, “Where do we pay?”

Chrises led him out of the store and toward a tall white building a few blocks away. This was the management office for the commerce district. A place where nobles registered businesses, renewed permits, and purchased properties.

Inside, the floor was marble, the walls decorated with paintings. Several clerks sat behind counters, sorting through documents.

As soon as Chrises stepped forward, a woman in silver robes rose from her seat with a bright smile.

“Lady Chrises!” she greeted warmly. “You are back. Have you chosen a property?”

Chrises nodded. “Yes. We will take the store at 47 North Crest Street.”

The woman’s eyes gleamed. “A wise choice. May I confirm payment?”

Chrises lifted the school bag and placed it gently on the counter.

The woman tilted her head as if confused at what item the customer has placed on the counter, but then she opened the bag. The moment she saw the gold coins inside, her eyes widened slightly.

She didn’t even bother counting.

Her instincts which had been honed from years of dealing with nobles and with the fact that this is the business district of the capital, she knew that no one would dare to scam the people them, as the consequences will be severe. And so, she didn’t bother to count.

Within minutes, she completed the paperwork and slid the magical deed across the table.

“Congratulations,” she said with a respectful bow. “The property now belongs to you, Lord Liam.”

Liam and Chrises thanked her, took the paper and left the building.

Outside, Liam decided to trust Chrises’ judgment and purchase the mansion without checking it out. He felt that it would save him time, and he could start furnishing the store while she handled the paperwork.

He turned to her and asked, “How much is the mansion?”

Chrises replied calmly, “Seven hundred and fifty thousand gold coins.”

Liam stopped walking in slight shock.

“…Seven hundred and fifty thousand?”

“Yes.”

Liam stared at her for a long second. Seven hundred and fifty thousand gold coins…

That was the same as seven hundred and fifty million dollars on Earth. Even the most luxurious mansion back home didn’t come close to that. No REIT would dare to list a property for that amount. If it ever gets sold, the government would sure go after the seller and buyer.

Liam couldn’t help but wonder how the economy of this world functioned. But that wasn’t the biggest problem.

The problem at the moment was that he didn’t have anywhere near that amount. Not even a fraction of it. He has about 279,000 gold coins. He would need more than double that amount if he wants to purchase the mansion.

Liam let out a quiet sigh.

“We’ll put the mansion aside for now,” he said. “We’ll buy it later.”

Chrises nodded without argument, and they continued walking back toward the newly purchased store. She would had shocked if Liam had casually produced the money for the mansion on the spot.

Stepping back into the store, Liam let a small, satisfied smile cross his face.

He walked to the center of the hall and took a slow breath. Chrises glanced at him, unable to hide her curiosity any longer and asked “Master… what do you plan to use this place for?”

Liam looked around once more before answering, his smile widening just a little, as he replied, “You’ll find out soon enough.”

He didn’t elaborate, and Chrises didn’t press him, but her eyes followed him closely as he walked deeper into the building.

In truth, Liam already had the entire plan laid out. He wasn’t here to open a normal shop and he wasn’t planning to sell weapons, potions, herbs, or enchanted trinkets like the others.

He intended to sell knowledge. More specifically, the skills housed inside the replica Tome of Thoth and Lucid would be the medium.

It won’t be the gaming-capable Lucid version of Earth. This world doesn’t need that.

The Velaris version of Lucid would be a pure learning device. It would be a tool to learn skills, languages, arts, combat techniques, and knowledge directly into the mind. Something revolutionary. Something no magician, scholar, or noble could ignore.

Liam raised a hand and the next moment,

dozens of robots poured out from the Dimensional Space.

Small spherical cleaning drones, tall humanoid construction bots, hovering shelves, scanners, and several mechanical arms designed for rapid assembly, all streamed into the room in perfect formation.

Chrises froze in sight of this, as she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She didn’t speak for several seconds and when she finally did, she asked Liam a question, “What… what are these…?”

“Robots,” Liam said casually.

Chrises blinked hard. “Ro… bots?”

“Yes.”

She stared at the tall humanoid one as it deployed two mechanical arms and started measuring the walls.

Chrises whispered, stunned, “But they… they look alive…”

“They’re not. They are machines. Artifacts,” Liam replied calmly.

He walked forward, hands in his pockets.

“Start the furnishing process,” he ordered.

The robots beeped in unison and the store came alive with motion.

Chrises watched, speechless, as robots began scanning the entire building, mapping every corner, outlining where furniture would go, preparing the walls for installation, cleaning dust with blue beams, smoothing the floor and deploying shelves from compact mechanical cubes

It looked like an army working with one mind.

Chrises whispered, “Master… this… this is not magic.”

“No,” Liam answered. “This is technology.”

Chrises swallowed hard and stared at him with disbelief.

“Technology…”

“Yes.”

Chrises turned back to the moving machines, eyes shining with shock and something close to reverence.

She finally understood that her master wasn’t merely strong. He wasn’t merely talented and he wasn’t merely mysterious.

He was from a place far beyond anything this world had ever touched. A place of impossible creation. A place of living miracles.

Liam walked deeper into the store, hands behind his back, unaware of Chrises thoughts. While he watched the robots at work, he was actually thinking introducing magitech to this world.

With his Primordial Forge Authority and the skills in the Replica Tome of Thoth, it was something he could achieve.

I will definitely consider it, he muttered to himself.
