Chapter 285: Shocking News
Morning came fast.

And as the first rays of sunlight hit Blackstone City, the news that the city lord was dead and had been killed by the Mad Demon, Liam, had already spread throughout the city like wildfire.

Hearing the news about the city lord’s death, the people of Blackstone City had mixed reactions to it.

Some of the were happy because the useless and tyrant city lord was dead. But they were also scared and in panic because they knew that things would become bloody, as the top families would fight for the now vacant seat of authority.

But in addition to their happiness and panic, they were also feeling shock. The truth was that no one thought he could kill the city lord.

They didn’t believe it when the news first broke, but after multiple guards had confirmed it, they had no other choice.

Meanwhile, the Fang family mansion was in chaos.

Inside the main hall, the remaining Fang elders gathered, all of them seated

.

The atmosphere was heavy and tense

The first elder slammed a hand down.

“HOW CAN THIS BE HAPPENING?! How did the city lord die so easily?!”

“Who cares about the city lord?!” another elder snapped. “Look at what matters! He.killed the Devouring Petal Pavilion’s entire branch in one night!”

A third elder grabbed the edge of the table tightly.

“That boy is no longer something we can handle. We keep calling him a mortal but is he really that?” The first elder asked, clenching his jaw.

“Our patriarch… our young masters… our elites… all dead at his hands. Now even the city lord… and the assassins we wanted to rely on…”

Silence filled the hall. It was a heavy, suffocating silence.

“What… what do we do now…?” One of the elders asked.

“Nothing, that’s the only thing we can do. If our weren’t so weak, we could had joined the fight for the new city lord position. But we can’t. Fang Cheng took the elites of our family to revenge the death of his spoilt sons and now, we are paying the price,” another elder said.

“But we can’t dwell on that anymore. We need to do something, Patriarch,” another elder said.

“I’ve heard everything you all said. We won’t do anything. We will seclude ourselves from today onwards, to cultivate more talents for the family,” the Patriarch said.

The elders nodded in agreement. They knew that this was the best course of action for them.

Meanwhile, Fang Ru was listening outside. Her fists were clenched in anger and hatred burned in her eyes.

Cowards. Traitors. All of them. Liam, I will kill you with my own hands even if it’s the last thing I do with my life. I will do whatever it takes to kill you. That’s a promise.

***

Far from Blackstone City, deep inside a hidden valley, stood the main branch of the Devouring Petal Pavilion.

The hall was quiet, with six high-ranking executives sat around a black stone table. Their faces were stiff and their eyes piercing.

The air around them held a heavy killing intent.

A black-robed messenger kneeled in front of them, head down.

“…and that is the report,” he finished. “The Blackstone City branch… was entirely destroyed.”

The leader of the table—an old man with a twisted scar across his cheek—closed his eyes slowly.

“And the culprit?”

“One individual,” the messenger said quietly. “A young man named Liam.”

One of the executives slammed his palm down.

“A SINGLE BOY?!”

Another gritted his teeth.

“He wiped out our assassins. Killed the branch leader!”

“This is humiliation,” female executive said. “Complete humiliation.”

The scarred old leader opened his eyes again.

“Explain the details. How did he do it?”

The messenger swallowed hard.

“The investigation shows that he fought the branch leader and five executives together… and they died within minutes.”

“That’s impossible,” someone said.

“Unless he’s hiding his realm,” another muttered.

“Or he’s a fake mortal,” the woman added.

The hall grew quiet as the scarred leader tapped his fingers lightly on the table.

“Regardless… we cannot ignore this,” he said. “If news spreads that a single unknown boy wiped out one of our branches… what will others think?”

“That we’re weak,” someone answered.

“Or worse,” another added, “that we let people disrespect us.”

Silence settled again.

Then the leader spoke, with a cold voice: “We must kill him.”

Another executive nodded. “We must send someone strong. Someone in Core Formation.”

“No,” the scarred leader said. “Send three.”

The table went silent.

Even the executives who were always calm felt a chill run down their backs.

“Three… Core Formation realm assassins?” someone asked.

The leader nodded slowly.

“We will erase Blackstone City if we must. But that boy cannot live. If we let this stay as it is, our reputation will shatter.”

The woman asked, “What if he has a powerful background?”

The scarred old man shook his head.

“Then we kill the background too.”

The others blinked.

This was the Devouring Petal Pavilion.

This was how they handled disrespect.

This was what made them feared across kingdoms.

The leader titled his head.

“Prepare the kill order,” he said. “Priority level: Crimson.”

Everyone stiffened when they heard this.

Crimson orders were the highest type of assassination missions the Pavilion had. And a Crimson target was someone who must die, no matter the cost.

The leader stood up slowly.

“Send the message.”

“Yes, Pavilion Master,” they all replied together.

The hall shook with the weight of the order.

Outside the hall, the messenger bowed and left quickly.

Meanwhile, Liam wasn’t paying attention to the chaos outside, as he was busy with something else.
