Chapter 284: Late Night Thoughts
After leaving the manor, Liam walked back to the inn. When he arrived, Guang’s body was still on the floor, twisted and bloody.
Blood had dried in dark patches all around it. Some areas were still wet, but the wooden floor had soaked up most of it, leaving ugly stains everywhere.
Liam sighed tiredly the moment he saw the mess—the stained wooden boards, the dark patches of dried blood, and the heavy smell hanging in the air
He wasn’t bothered by blood or death vut he disliked dirt. He disliked messy surroundings and this room was a disaster.
He pinched the bridge of his nose lightly, a he closed the door behind him, walked to the center of the room and waved his hand. The Dimensional Space opened in a small flash of light.
A circular drone-like cleaning unit floated out. It looked smooth and simple, designed by Lucy for fast interior cleaning. It beeped once at him, an indication that it was waiting for his instruction.
“Clean the room,” Liam said.
The robot lit up with a soft blue glow and started working immediately, scanning the room, reading the mess, and mapping out the best path to clean.
Liam stepped around the robot carefully and stood beside Guang’s corpse. He grabbed the assassin by the collar with one hand and lifted him easily.
“You should have chosen another job,” Liam said quietly.
He opened the Dimensional Space again and tossed the corpse inside.
Then Liam disappeared from the room. He reappeared inside the Devouring Petal Pavilion’s restaurant almost a second later.
The bodies he killed earlier still lay scattered across the floor, with blood dripping down from the second floor. The scent of death had already soaked into the wooden walls.
Liam set Guang’s body on the floor near the others and stepped back.
He sighed once.
“I should’ve brought the body earlier,” he said to himself. “Would’ve saved me a trip back and forth.”
He shook his head lightly and vanished again.
A moment later, he reappeared inside the inn room once more.
The cleaning robot was already halfway done. Its small mechanical arms scrubbed the wood, sprayed cleaning gel, and wiped the floor with quick motions. Most of the blood was already gone. The air smelled better too.
Liam kicked off his sneakers. The soles were bloody, so he tossed them aside near the window. The robot would clean them later.
He pulled off his jacket and tossed it over the chair. Then he lay down on the bed. He stared quietly at the wooden ceiling and he let his thoughts wander.
Tonight had been loud. He had killed everyone connected to the assassination. He wiped out the entire Blackstone branch of the Devouring Petal Pavilion. Then he killed the city lord.
It wasn’t a big deal to him, but his actiom was something that would shake the entire region.
While Liam didn’t want to think about it, he knew that the city lord was right and that the Devouring Petal Pavilion would definitely come after him now.
He didn’t know how many branches they had. He didn’t know how strong their upper executives were. He didn’t know if they had Core Formation experts or stronger. But none of that mattered.
If they came after him, he would kill them too.
Yes, he might be strong enough to do that but he would be able to escape if he found himself in a precarious situation.
Liam closed his eyes for a moment. He wasn’t in the slightest, worried about being hunted. He wasn’t scared of assassins and he wasn’t scared of retaliation. He was more annoyed than anything else.
To him, they are nothing but pesky flies that would be buzzing, “you dare touch the Devouring Petal Pavillion? Seeking death! Pay for your arrogance!”
Also, he was annoyed by the fact that getting hunted meant more interruptions. It meant more people approaching him when he didn’t want to deal with them. It meant inconvenience.
But even if dozens of cultivators came after him, he doubted it would change anything. And even if it did…
He had a trump card.
Yanxia.
She was a Golden Immortal. Not a weak one either. A being strong enough that she could erase cities with a flick of her wrist. A being who could turn mountains into ash with a breath.
If she were to appear in the mortal world, the entire continent would kneel in fear.
The Heavenly Dao would restrict her strength heavily, yes. But even with that restriction, she would still be ten times stronger than the strongest cultivator in the mortal world.
She was still solidifying her cultivation and would need some time. Liam calculated that it would take her at the minimum five months of Earth time.
Until then, he had to rely on himself. But he liked that. He preferred handling things alone.
He opened his eyes again.
The ceiling felt peaceful. The silence felt calming and the now cleaned room was nice.
He breathed out softly and let his thoughts settle.
The city would be in chaos tomorrow morning. The news that he killed the city lord would spread like wildfire. People would panic. Rumors would spread. Merchants would gossip. Families would lock their doors.
The guards would tell the truth. Or if they didn’t dare, the servants would spread it. And even if none of them did, the Devouring Petal Pavilion would make sure the world knew the moment their branch stopped responding.
Liam didn’t care. Though he couldn’t but think of the Fang family next.
They were finished. Their patriarch was dead, killed by him in their fight. Their two heirs were dead. And most of their experts were probably dead. Their influence was probably gone. Same as their reputation.
They might try something desperate after hearing about the city lord’s death. They might want to use the chaos to come after him.
He hoped they would. He liked dealing with problems directly.
He didn’t feel fear. He didn’t feel pressure. He didn’t feel stressed. He only felt mildly annoyed that things would get louder before they got quiet again.
But he forced the thoughts out of his head, as he had far more important things to focus on.
The Devouring Petal Pavilion? The Fang family? They were small things. Temporary annoyances. Situations he could wipe out with a single good day.
Still, if they are going to start buzzing around like flies, they should at least make thinga interesting.
