Chapter 282: Returning The Favour
Liam stepped out of the blood-soaked restaurant with slow, calm steps. The cool, fresh night air hit him immediately, bringing a bright smile to his face
As he walked down the small stairs that leads up to the restaurant’s entrance, his steps left behind bloody footprints.
The female executive hadn’t lasted long. She cracked the moment Liam touched her jaw and applied pressure. Within minutes, she revealed everything:
The fact that the city lord placed the assassination request. And not only that, she also told him where they his the assassination ledger for their top clients.
The assassination ledger was the Pavilion’s most guarded item. A full record of every high-end mission they accepted in Blackstone City. Every client, every order, every transaction.
It was a perfect piece evidence and also a perfect piece of justification for what he was about to do next.
Liam exhaled once and looked up at the night sky.
“Time to end this idiot.”
He rose off the ground and shot into the air. His body turned into a dark streak as he flew toward the city lord’s manor.
Below him, Blackstone City looked calm. Lanterns lit the streets, people walked home with baskets, guards stood at corners, unaware of the storm heading toward the highest authority in their city.
Liam didn’t slow down, as he finally reached the manor about a moment later.
He hovered above it and from this height, he saw everything going on in the inner courtyard. He saw the soldiers doing patrols, servants carrying trays, walking across the grounds.
Liam descended quietly. His feet touched the courtyard stone without a sound.
But the quiet lasted three seconds, as the next moment, one of the guards screamed in alarm.
“INTRUDER!”
Immediately, dozens of guards reacted instantly and in a matter of seconds, the courtyard flooded with sounds of boots and metals, as the guards all surrounded him.
The head guard—a large, muscular man in full armor—rushed forward.
When he recognized Liam, his face instantly stiffened.
“You—!” he shouted, eyes wide. “Mad Demon! What do you want?! Why did you intrude into the city lord’s manor?!”
Liam didn’t bother answering, as he vanished the next moment and a gust of wind blasted the courtyard.
The next time the guards blinked, Liam was already standing in front of the main doors to the grand hall.
He lifted one foot—
BOOM!
—and kicked the doors open.
The thick wooden doors slammed into the walls with a loud crash.
Inside the hall, dozens of guards rushed in from all sides, surrounding Liam instantly. Halberds, swords, and spears rose toward him from every angle.
Liam sighed and waved one hand lazily.
A wave of invisible force blasted outward.
Every guard flew back as if a hurricane hit them. Bodies slammed into pillars, walls, floors, and furniture. Some coughed blood, some dropped their weapons, others fainted on contact.
The grand hall went silent, as Liam started walking forward at the same relaxed pace.
Behind him, the head guard rushed in through the shattered doorway, gasping when he saw the scene.
“H-How…?!”
He tried to run toward Liam, but Liam turned his head slightly and gave him a single glance.
Just one and the head guard froze mid-step. His breath caught in his throat, and his legs locked into the ground, as fear wrapped around his spine like ice.
He couldn’t move and he couldn’t even breathe properly.
Liam looked away as if he had already forgotten him.
He walked up the steps toward the throne.
Blackstone City’s lord sat there quietly, legs crossed, face calm but cold. He didn’t rise or flinch, as he simply watched Liam approach with hatred burning faintly behind his eyes.
His right-hand man—a slim, deadly-looking man in black—stepped down in front of Liam to block the path.
Liam stopped only two steps away.
He reached into the Dimensional Space, pulled out the ledger, flipped it to the last page, and read aloud:
“Order #1271. Client: Blackstone City Lord. Target: Liam Scott. Reason: ‘Kill him and take his head as an offering.’ Reward: 5,000 gold.”
He closed the book and tossed it back into the Dimensional Space. He raised his gaze and locked eyes with the city lord.
“I’m here to return the favor.”
The city lord’s face tightened. His hands clenched on the armrest.
“To think you dare bring your arrogance into my manor,” he growled. “You lowborn piece of filth.”
He turned to his right-hand man. “Kill him.”
The man nodded and drew his sword. His lips curled into a grin.
“I’ll enjoy cutting your head off—”
He didn’t finish. He didn’t feel the cut. He didn’t even hear the blade move.
He only saw the world tilt sideways and his head rolled on the floor.
His body stood upright for two seconds before collapsing. Blood slowly pooled beneath the corpse.
Liam didn’t even look at him as he stepped around the body and faced the city lord.
“So,” Liam asked casually, “are you going to die quietly? Or do we do this the hard way?”
The city lord stood from his throne, fury erupting in his veins.
“YOU BASTARD!” he roared. “I will tear you limb by limb! I will peel your skin! I will—”
“Stop your psychotic episode,” Liam cut in with a bored expression. “It’s embarrassing.”
The city lord’s eyes burned red.
“DIE!”
He summoned his full strength. Qi exploded around him like a violent shockwave. His aura surged, shaking the hall. The air trembled and the ground cracked from the pressure.
He lifted his halberd, stepped forward, and swung at Liam’s head with everything he had.
The force was monstrous and the slash tore the air apart. It ripped a crater across the floor. It split the table on the right side clean in half.
But Liam didn’t move. He simply lifted one arm and caught the halberd’s blade with his sword.
BOOOOOOM!
The impact created a thunderous blast that echoed through the manor. The ground beneath Liam’s feet shattered in a spiderweb of cracks.
Stone chunks flew everywhere. The walls trembled and the roof creaked loudly.
The attack was strong—strong enough to kill most Qi Refinement realm cultivators instantly, and even injure a Foundation Establishment realm cultivator heavily.
But Liam stood there unmoved, simply holding the halberd with his sword. The force has been strong, yes, and it cracked the ground under his feet. But it wasn’t enough to do anything to him.
The city lord’s eyes widened when he saw that Liam was fine.
“What…?!” he gasped. “Impossible!”
He wasn’t expecting this. He’s a peak Foundation Establishment realm expert that’s just not far from forming his core. He had expected his attack to injure Liam at least.
Or does he have internal injury and he’s hiding it?
Liam smiled from ear to ear, slowly.
“Finally,” he said, “something interesting.”
