Chapter 278: Master Han’s Offer (Bonus Chapter 1/2)
The room stayed silent for a long time.
Master Han held the finished sword in his hands, staring at it as if he were looking at a weapon forged by a celestial craftsman. His muscles were still tense, but his eyes trembled slightly with a mix of disbelief and excitement.
Finally, the old blacksmith lifted his head and looked straight at Liam.
“Boy,” he said slowly, “how many years have you been a blacksmith?”
Liam smiled lightly and replie, “This is the first time I’ve ever gotten close to an anvil.”
Luo’s jaw dropped when he heard this. Master Han froze in even greater shock.
No one taught him and this is the first time he has ever gotten close to an anvil? What level of monstrous talent is this? Master Han thought to him.
For a moment, the old blacksmith didn’t breathe. He just stared, trying to understand if Liam was joking or testing him. His chest rose and fell slowly, and his fingers tightened around the sword.
He wanted to call it a lie. He wanted to say, “Impossible.”
But when he opened his mouth, nothing came out, because deep down, something told him Liam wasn’t lying. The boy’s calm tone didn’t carry arrogance or trickery. It was simple truth.
Master Han swallowed. Then asked, “Your age… how old are you?”
“Eighteen.”
The old man let out a long, defeated sigh.
Eighteen. First time touching a hammer. And he had improved my work in less about an hour?
Master Han felt a sting in his chest. He felt like everything he knew has been overturned overnight, and he couldn’t do anything about it.
He looked at Liam again. This was the boy who had been called the Mad Demon in Blackstone City.
The one who beat Fang Cheng and Xuan Zhi. A monster in battle… yet somehow, also a monster in craftsmanship.
Master Han couldn’t help but think back on his own life. Decades of practice, sweat, and constant failures. All the hammer strikes. All the nights he spent perfecting every small step. But none of those is comparable to what Liam had achieved.
He thought he had come far. In Blackstone City, he was respected. In his field, he was known. But outside the city? He was sure he was nothing compared to the blacksmiths in major cities. And nothing compared to the true masters crafting spiritual weapons.
Compared to them, he was a frog sitting at the bottom of a small well—only seeing a tiny piece of the sky and thinking it was the world.
But now… he felt like the sky had opened.
Because of the young man in front of him.
Liam didn’t just show him skill. He showed him depths.
It was a level of depths that shouldn’t exist in someone his age.
A slow resolve formed in Master Han’s mind and it grew stronger with every breath he took. And before Luo could even blink, the old blacksmith did something that shocked both of them, and him, himself.
Master Han stepped forward and bowed.
It was a humble and respectful bow.
“Please…” Master Han said quietly, “accept me as your disciple.”
Luo’s eyes stretched wide and he almost choked on air.
“Master?!”
Liam stood stunned for a full second. He hadn’t expected this. He knew that he had improved the sword significantly, but he didn’t think it was to the point that the best blacksmith in Blackstone City would bow and ask to become his student.
That was too heavy.
Raising his hand slightly, Liam said, “Master Han, I’m not in a position to accept a disciple. I really can’t.”
The old man didn’t move at first. He kept his head lowered. His posture was tense, almost desperate. But after a few long seconds, he finally straightened with a tired sigh.
“I understand,” he said, though his voice carried disappointment. “It was a selfish request from an old man.”
Liam looked at the old blacksmith’s eyes. Unlike what he had expected, he didn’t see anger or wounded pride. All he saw was only a genuine desire to learn.
So Liam spoke again, softer this time.
“But I will still come here from time to time. I still need a place to forge items and test new things. If you’ll allow it, I’ll continue to use your forge whenever I visit.”
Master Han blinked once. Then his eyes brightened, and his shoulders loosened.
“That… that is more than enough.”
He bowed again—shorter this time, but still sincere.
“Thank you.”
He stepped back and handed the sword to Liam.
“Take it. There is no need to pay for it. Treat it as a small gift from an old craftsman who witnessed something unforgettable.”
Liam accepted the sword with a small nod.
The blade felt perfect in his hands. It was well-balanced, clean, sharp, and refined. It wasn’t on the level of Silver Leaf, but it was close.
He has no idea how good it is, but if he’s to take a guess, it would be at most a mid grade spirit rank sword. Which is a level below Silver Leaf that broke in his last fight.
Found a good replacement, Liam muttered with a smile on his face.
Luo had been silent the whole time, watching the scene with wide eyes. If someone had told him earlier that the unassuming stranger who walked into their shop would shock his master, craft a perfect sword, and cause Master Han to bow… he would have laughed in their face.
Luo now looked at Liam the way a student looked at a grandmaster, because even if Liam didn’t accept Master Han as a disciple… the old man still treated him like one. And by extension, that meant Luo had to treat Liam with respect as well.
He knew that if what happened in the shop today were to get out, it would shock the whole city.
As for Liam, he wasn’t done yet, as he still wants to test his talent one more time. And this time, he wants to forge a couple of items from scratch.
“Master Han,” Liam said, “I want to try crafting some items from scratch. Can I use your forge longer?”
Master Han nodded immediately, almost too fast.
“Use it for however long you want. You don’t need to ask for permission. It’s yours to use whenever you want,” he said with a smile on his face.
Would he dare refuse an opportunity to see Liam in action and also improve his craft? No! It was exactly what he wanted!
Master Han stepped back to give Liam space. And Luo did the same without a word.
Liam smiled and walked back toward the furnace.
