Chapter 210: Introducing Lucy
The morning light spilled softly across the glass walls of the study, reflecting off polished wood and the muted gleam of brass fixtures.

A faint breeze drifted in through the open window, carrying with it the faint scent of dew and roses from the gardens below.

Daniel was already seated behind his desk when Liam entered.

The private banker’s usually unshakable composure was fraying at the edges. His steps were measured but heavy, and his expression carried the look of a man who’d spent the entire night awake, trying to rationalize something irrational.

Liam noticed it immediately. He gave a small smile and took his seat.

“Good morning, Daniel.”

“Good morning, sir. I trust you’ve had a good night.”

“I did. Though I suspect you didn’t,” Liam said lightly.

“You could say that,” Daniel gave a small, humorless chuckle.

“You’ve seen the videos,” Liam said.

Daniel nodded once, then sighed, his shoulders sinking slightly.

“I have. Every news outlet on the planet is running the footage. The entire world saw it, sir. Forty drones, forty simultaneous deliveries, all caught live.”

He paused, rubbing the bridge of his nose as if to steady himself.

“I don’t even know where to start. You didn’t tell me. You didn’t tell anyone.”

Liam didn’t say anything, as he gave a faint smile, simply acknowledging Daniel’s words.

Daniel shook his head slowly, as he spoke, “When I first saw it, I didn’t even believe what I was seeing. I thought it was CGI. A hoax. And I told myself that it wasn’t you. But then…” He trailed off, glancing briefly toward the window. “Then I saw the part of the drone that LUCID was written on slid open and the familiar packaging of the product…”

“And you were asleep,” He saod, as he looked back at Liam, his expression caught somewhere between disbelief and admiration.

“I slept very well,” Liam said softly, almost amused with the fact that he was sleeping while the world was losing its mind.

Daniel sighed again, but there was no anger in it now — only a kind of resigned awe.

“JP Morgan has already mobilized an internal task force. I’ve been fielding calls since three this morning. Compliance, risk management, the executive board — all of them are spinning up teams. Their focus is to protect you, Nova Technologies, and by extension, the bank itself.”

“That was fast,” Liam said, a spark of interest flickering in his eyes.

Daniel nodded. “They’re taking this seriously. Very seriously. According to what I heard, the order came directly from Marianne and the Global Risk Committee. Their exact words were: ‘Secure the alliance at all costs.'”

Liam chuckled quietly. “At all costs, hmm? I suppose that’s their polite way of saying they’ve seen the storm coming.”

“They’re bracing for it,” Daniel replied. “The White House, the Treasury, even the SEC — everyone’s going to start sniffing around. The bank knows it. They’ve decided the best defense is to stand beside you rather than distance themselves.”

“That’s unexpected,” Liam said, tapping a finger lightly on the desk. “I half expected them to quietly step away.”

Daniel gave a dry smile. “So did I. But they didn’t. They doubled down. They’re protecting their investment, yes — but they’re also protecting the future. If Nova Technologies survives this political avalanche, JP Morgan will be tied to the most powerful private entity on the planet.”

Liam’s smile deepened, slow and thoughtful. “Only shared benefits can sustain loyalty. They understand that.”

“They do,” Daniel said. “And they’re proving it.”

Liam nodded slowly and spoke with certainty in his voice, “I won’t disappoint them.”

“I know you won’t, sir.” Daniel said.

Liam nodded inwardly to himself. He would have to think of how to implement them into LucidOS, but that will be something for later.

He glanced toward the window again, then back to Daniel.

“You have something else on your mind.”

Daniel hesitated, then met his gaze.

“Next time, sir… please inform me before something like this happens. I can’t manage the fire if I don’t know when you’ll strike the match.”

Liam chuckled softly, recognizing the fatigue in his tone. “Fair enough. You’re right, Daniel. From now on, I’ll let you know before I light anything.”

Daniel nodded in appreciation. The tension in his shoulders eased a little.

“Good,” he said. “That’s all I ask.”

“Actually, Daniel, I called you here for something else,” Liam said, leaning back a little.

“Something else?” Daniel asked, as he straightened slightly

Liam turned his head slightly, his expression unreadable.

“Yes. There’s someone I’d like you to meet.”

Before Daniel could ask, the air beside Liam shimmered. It began as a faint distortion, like heat haze rising from asphalt, then it expanded.

Daniel’s breath caught as the ripple parted like a curtain and a woman stepped through.

She looked human — entirely human — yet something about her presence made the air feel charged. She was tall, elegant, with long black hair and a poise that felt too perfect and she was dressed in a fitted black office suit.

She smiled softly and bowed her head slightly to Liam.

“Good morning, Master.”

Daniel froze and his eyes darted from the woman to the empty space she had stepped out of, then back again. His mind refused to compute what he had just witnessed.

“I…” He blinked rapidly. “I’m sorry, did she just—?”

“Yes,” Liam said, cutting him off gently. “She stepped out of another dimension.”

Daniel stared blankly at him, completely lost for words.

Liam chuckled, standing from his chair.

“Daniel, meet Lucy.”

Lucy turned toward him and extended a hand with perfect grace.

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mr. Conley. I’ve heard much about you. Thank you for the work you’ve done for my master.”

Daniel hesitated, then shook her hand slowly. Her skin was warm and soft..

“Master?” He looked at Liam in disbelief.

“Lucy is an AGI. An autonomous general intelligence built by me,” Liam smiled.

“You built… her?” Daniel stared at him for a long moment.

“Yes.”

There was another long pause. Daniel’s lips parted slightly, then closed again. He had questions — hundreds of them — but none seemed appropriate.

“I know this is a lot. Take a moment,” Liam said.

Daniel did exactly that. He exhaled, rubbed his temple, and then finally said quietly, “You’re not just years ahead, are you? You’re centuries.”

Liam didn’t answer. He didn’t need to.

After a few moments, Daniel composed himself and met Lucy’s gaze again.

“It’s… an honor, I suppose.”

“The honor is mine,” Lucy smiled politely

Liam sat back down, his tone turning serious.

“Daniel, I trust you. You’ve proven that many times. Which is why I’m bringing you into the circle — into the truth. I can’t keep you in the dark anymore, not with what’s coming.”

Another reason why Liam wants to bring Daniel into the know—revealing some of his secrets to him, making him part of his inner circle and no longer keeping him in the dark—was of his impending space trip.

By the time the starship is ready and it’s time for him to leave, even if he doesn’t want to, he would have to tell Daniel about some of his secrets. Besides, he has no idea how long the trip will take.

“I understand. Whatever this is, I’ll manage it,” Daniel nodded slowly, his curiosity finally overtaken by professionalism.

“Good,” Liam said. “Then listen carefully.”

He paused, his expression turning serious. “The world has changed in just a few days. Since the Flying Palace’s first flight, everything’s been set in motion. Governments are moving. Corporations are watching. Some want partnerships. Others want control. But the ones I’m most concerned about are the ones who operate in shadows.”

“Meaning?”

“There are people — groups — who will stop at nothing to get what I have,” Liam said. “They’ve already begun reaching out, trying to tie me to their agendas. Others are targeting my circle. Friends. Staff. Even you.”

“Yes. I already received multiple messages from them,” Daniel said with an exasperated look.

“They’re probing the Family Office infrastructure, my financial accounts, my social media, even those of my friends,” Liam continued. “They’re looking for weaknesses. For leverage. For something — or someone — they can use.”

“But they won’t find any,” He said as his voice dropped slightly, firm and measured.

“We’ve already detected over two hundred intrusion attempts right after the aircraft took off from the airport that day. Some from state agencies, others from private contractors. All neutralized.”

“All of them?” Daniel turned to her sharply.

“Every one,” Lucy said. “But more will come. Which is why the Master has decided we’ll be working together from now on.”

“Together?” Daniel blinked in confusion.

“Yes,” Liam said. “You’re my external guardian — the shield in the physical world. Lucy is the internal one — the brain that controls everything digital. I want the two of you to build a unified defense.”

Daniel processed that in silence, then nodded, “You’re anticipating escalation.”

“I’m certain of it,” Liam replied.

“You’re expecting them to come after you?” Daniel frowned slightly.

“They already have,” Liam gave a small smile.

“We’ll stay ahead of them,” Lucy said, her tone calm but edged with confidence.

“Exactly,” Liam said. “Daniel, you’ll handle coordination — logistics, legal, anything that requires human oversight. Lucy will fortify every digital layer. Together, you’ll make sure that no one — not a government, not a corporation, not even a hacker in his mother’s basement — can touch Bellemere or anyone connected to me.”

“I’ll start immediately. We’ll build redundancies, establish layered shells for the Family Office systems, and reroute exposure under shell companies. If they come digging, they’ll only find smoke,” Daniel said.

“Good,” Liam said. “Lucy will give you everything you need.”

“I’ll create an encrypted channel between us — beyond traceable range. You’ll have access to real-time threat data, and I’ll monitor your communications 24/7 for anomalies,” Lucy said.

“So this is what it feels like to work with the future,” Daniel smiled.

“Then it’s settled. Lucy, coordinate with him. Daniel, you know what to do,” Liam said, then rose from his seat, satisfied.

He left the study, leaving Daniel and Lucy to discuss the plan further.
