Chapter 456: Susha Danyi
Before stepping out of the main entrance of the Great General’s mansion, Bai Hanyun took out a sling bag from her Qiankun Pouch.

Slung the bag across her body, Bai Hanyun looked at the two soldiers guarding the door and said, “If Feng Xiyan returns and asks about me, tell him that I’m going out for sightseeing.”

The two soldiers exchanged a look, then clasped their fists and responded in unison, “Yes, Miss Bai.”

“Thank you.” Bai Hanyun nodded to them, then looked left and right. Seeing that there weren’t many people around, she casually chose a direction and walked away in a good mood.

Leaving the Great General’s mansion, Bai Hanyun walked aimlessly for a while. Scratching her cheek, she muttered, “There’s nothing to see here. Where is everyone going?”

The sun was shining brightly above her head, and although the temperature was high, it wasn’t as scorching as the last time she visited.

Bai Hanyun wiped the sweat off her forehead and continued her walk. Just when she was about to give up and return to the mansion, something caught her attention.

“Come and have a look! Just two jins of flour or grains in exchange for one item from my stall!”

As the stall owner shouted, the crowd simply stood around, murmuring to each other.

A middle-aged woman scanned the goods and said in shock, “Two jins of flour or grains for a single item? Stall owner, why don’t you just rob people?”

Hearing this, an old man nodded. “Two jins of grain are my grandson’s monthly wage. Who has that much to spend on these useless things? Look at these fabrics. It’s so thin that my coarse clothes made from tree bark are better than these fabrics.”

Seeing that the crowd only complained without buying, the young man who stood beside the stall owner, grew impatient.

“If you don’t want to buy, don’t stand here blocking business. We didn’t force anyone to buy. Why are you staying here and ruining our business?”

His words displeased the crowd and immediately made them angry.

A middle-aged man spat and cursed, “Bah! What business? No one would waste their hard-earned food on these useless things!”

Then he turned to the crowd and shouted, “Everyone, let’s go! If you stay here, they might accuse you of blocking business. You might lose your last grains for compensation!”

Hearing this, the crowd quickly dispersed as if afraid of being scammed.

Standing at a distance, Bai Hanyun watched with interest.

Angered by the reaction, the young man’s face reddened. “You—!”

Before he could argue with the middle-aged man, the stall owner grabbed his arm and shook his head.

Held back by his father, the young man could only grit his teeth and swallow his retort.

Seeing this, the crowd lost interest completely and scattered.

In a few moments, only the stall owner and his son remained.

The young man turned to his father and asked with suppressed anger, “Father, why did you stop me earlier?”

The stall owner let out a long sigh and explained in a low voice, “We are new here. It’s better not to fight with the locals. Even a local snack is stronger than an injured dragon.”

Hearing this, the young man’s expression sank. Lowering his head, he could only clench his hands and grit his teeth in silence.

While they were feeling down, Bai Hanyun approached the stall.

Earlier, she had stood too far away to see clearly. But now, when she saw the beautiful fabric displayed on top of a piece of cloth, her eyes lit up.

‘No way… isn’t this the famous Susha Danyi?’

Squatting in front of the fabric that shimmered under the light, Bai Hanyun reached out and touched it gently.

‘So soft! So light and it’s so transparent! This—this is really Susha Danyi!’

Noticing her interest, the stall owner cautiously said, “Young Lady, this is the newest fine silk gauze produced this year. The quality is guaranteed.”

“Usually, this kind of high-quality fine silk gauze will be sent to the imperial palace. This year, the famine was so bad that we had no choice but to leave our place and couldn’t send them to the imperial palace. Otherwise, this kind of fine silk gauze will never be seen outside the imperial palace.”

What he said was right. In historical records, the Susha Danyi was only worn by the members of the royal family or nobility. There’s no way ordinary common people had a chance to see it in the market.

Bai Hanyun looked up and asked curiously, “Stall owner, how do you sell this fabric?”

The stall owner’s eyes brightened at her question and hurriedly raised two fingers. “Two jins of flour or grains for thirty chi of fabric.”

Bai Hanyun quickly converted the measurement and thought, ‘Ten meters of Susha Danyi for only one kilogram of grains? This—this is too cheap! Oh, my God! Today is really my lucky day!’

Suppressing her excitement, she stood up and said generously, “Stall owner, I want all of these. Please help me calculate the price.”

The stall owner was stunned by her domineering words.

Standing behind him, the young man reacted faster and responded, “Young Lady, please wait a moment. I will calculate everything for you.”

“Alright. No rush. Take your time,” Bai Hanyun replied happily. While waiting, she looked at the other bolts of fabric.

Seeing that she was really interested in the fine silk gauze, the young man hurriedly took out his abacus and calculated.

A few minutes later, he stopped and said, “Young Lady, the total for everything is three hundred jins of grains or flour.”

He hesitated for a few seconds, then asked politely, “Young Lady, do you need us to deliver the goods to your house?”

Bai Hanyun noticed the doubt in his eyes.

Understanding that he was afraid she might scam them, she replied, “I can’t carry everything back myself. How about you both follow me back, and I will pay you there?”
