Chapter 454: A Clown
Seeing Bai Hanyun glare back, Lin Weiwen felt anger rising. Before she could think of a response, Feng Xiyan’s cold voice cut through the air.
“Miss Lin, you and this general are not close. Please address this general by my title.”
He then reached over and held Bai Hanyun’s hand and added, “This general does not want my beloved fiancée to misunderstand. Please behave with proper decorum.”
Lin Weiwen’s expression instantly paled. Seeing her body sway, her maidservant rushed to support her.
“Third Young Lady, are you alright?” she asked worriedly.
Gritting her teeth, Lin Weiwen steadied herself, forced a stiff smile, and bowed again. “Wen Wen has overstepped her bounds. Great General Feng, please forgive me.”
Sitting off to the side, Lin Ruichuan leisurely enjoyed a bite of glutinous rice cake. ‘This younger sister really knows how to retreat and advance.’
Glancing at Feng Xiyan, he nodded in satisfaction, ‘Looks like Xiyan isn’t blind after all. He saw through Lin Weiwen’s hypocrisy in an instant. I wonder how she will handle this embarrassment.’
Beside him, Bai Hanyun also happily watched the embarrassing scene unfold.
Grabbing a handful of sunflower seeds, she slowly cracked them one by one. ‘This Lin Weiwen should be stronger. Otherwise, the show will end too soon.’
Crack… crack… crack…
As the cracking sound of sunflower seeds echoed through the silent guest hall, Lin Weiwen’s legs began to tremble.
She stole a glance at Feng Xiyan, only to find him still staring coldly at her, with no intention of allowing her to rise.
Minutes passed, and sweat soaked her back.
‘What is this dead man doing? Can’t he see I’m about to faint from tiredness? Why won’t he tell me to sit?!’
After another ten minutes, Feng Xiyan finally spoke, “Miss Lin, you are too polite. Please be seated.”
Lin Weiwen let out a silent sigh of relief and hurriedly responded, “Thank you, Great General Feng.”
With her maidservant’s support, she tremblingly walked into her seat. Turning away, she hurriedly dabbed her handkerchief to wipe the sweat from her face.
When she turned back to smile at Feng Xiyan, Bai Hanyun’s eyes widened, and she accidentally let out a muffled laugh.
“Puff~!”
The muffled laugh echoed through the guest hall, and all four people turned to look at her at once.
Seeing that everyone looked at her, Bai Hanyun pressed her lips to suppress her laugh. Clearing her throat, she tried her best not to look at Lin Weiwen’s face.
“Excuse me. You two continue, continue.” Bai Hanyun said awkwardly.
But the moment she accidentally glanced at Lin Weiwen again, she almost suffocated from holding back her laughter.
Seeing her face turn red, Feng Xiyan reached out and touched her cheek, asking worriedly, “Yun’er, what’s wrong? Have you caught a cold? Your face is so red.”
Bai Hanyun quickly shook her head but didn’t dare open her mouth. If she did, she would burst into laughter.
Noticing her secret glances, Lin Weiwen asked unhappily, “Miss Bai, do you have something to tell me? Why do you keep stealing glances at me?”
Questioned so suddenly, Bai Hanyun choked on her saliva. “Cough, cough, cough!”
Startled, Feng Xiyan quickly patted her back and called out anxiously, “Someone, quickly summon Physician Yan! Hurry up!”
Standing outside, the servant heard this and immediately responded, “This servant will go at once!”
Seeing this, Bai Hanyun grabbed Feng Xiyan’s arm and shook her head. Unfortunately, she was coughing too hard, so she couldn’t speak, not to mention explain to Feng Xiyan.
Pouring her a cup of tea, Feng Xiyan held it to her lips. “Yun’er, drink some water to ease the coughing. Hold on for a while. When Physician Yan arrives, you will be fine.”
Feeling the sting in her throat, Bai Hanyun gratefully drank the water he fed her.
After a few mouthfuls, the pain subsided. She shook her head, and Feng Xiyan set the cup on the side table.
“How do you feel?” he asked worriedly.
Bai Hanyun smiled and replied, “I’m fine. It’s just…”
Feng Xiyan noticed her sneaking another glance at Lin Weiwen and frowned. Leaning closer, he lowered his voice, “Yun’er, why do you keep looking at that woman?”
Bai Hanyun raised her brows in disbelief. ‘No way… Why does he sound so sour?’
Shaking her head to chase away that thought, Bai Hanyun whispered, “Don’t you realize it? Her makeup is smudged. She looks like a clown right now. I can’t hold back my laugh, and it’s so bad that I keep looking at her.”
When Feng Xiyan heard this, he looked at Lin Weiwen, then back at Bai Hanyun. “I don’t see any difference on her face,” he said in confusion.
Rolling her eyes at him, Bai Hanyun muttered, “Men. Even if she stood right in front of you, you wouldn’t notice anything.”
Feng Xiyan patted her head and replied indulgently, “You are right. You are the only one in my eyes.”
Suddenly getting rizzed by him, Bai Hanyun blushed. Slapping his chest lightly, she muttered in a shy, low voice, “What are you talking about? There are other people here.”
Blinking twice, Feng Xiyan asked, “So… I can say this when there is no one around?”
“You— shameless!” Bai Hanyun ignored him and lowered her head to drink another sip of tea.
Looking at her blushing face, Feng Xiyan chuckled softly. ‘So cute.’
While the two of them were whispering intimately, Lin Weiwen almost ground her teeth to dust. Clenching her handkerchief, she forced herself to stay calm.
‘Vixen! How can she be so shameless, flirting with my Elder Cousin in public?’
Since Bai Hanyun was fine, Feng Xiyan let out a sigh of relief. When he turned to look at Lin Weiwen, his smile instantly disappeared and was replaced by a cold expression.
“Miss Lin, since you and this general are strangers, it’s not appropriate for you to stay here too long. You should leave before it affects your reputation.”
Lin Weiwen was stunned that Feng Xiyan had blatantly chased her out. Turning to look at Lin Ruichuan, she put on a wronged expression.
