Chapter 414: Secret Deal
Wen Kang’s expression darkened at the chief eunuch’s explanation. Having a bad premonition, he nodded in agreement. “You are right. This Prime Minister should go to the imperial palace immediately.”

Making his decision, Wen Kang gestured politely to the chief eunuch. “Gong Gong, please.”

The chief eunuch gestured back and smiled. “Prime Minister Wen, please.”

After this brief exchange, the two secretly left for the imperial palace together. As the night deepened, the sounds of their horse carriage’s wheels broke the silent night.

Half an hour later, the two horse carriages stopped outside the side gate of the imperial palace.

After getting down from his carriage, the chief eunuch saw that the young eunuchs had prepared a sedan chair nearby. Waving his hand, he ordered, “Bring the sedan chair here.”

Hearing this, the young eunuchs saluted and replied, “Yes, Chief Eunuch.”

After that, the chief eunuch walked toward Wen Kang’s carriage.

He waited for Wen Kang to step down from the carriage before saying, “Prime Minister Wen, we have prepared a sedan chair for you. Please have a seat.”

Hearing this, Wen Kang nodded and sat down.

Once he was seated, the young eunuchs lifted the sedan chair and carried him into the imperial palace through the side gate.

While they made their way toward the imperial study, Wen Qiaolun was on the verge of losing her mind from anxiety and overthinking.

Sitting on the dragon chair, she looked at the palace maidservant standing beside her and asked, “Has the Prime Minister not arrived yet?”

The maidservant shook her head in response. “Answering the Empress Dowager, the Prime Minister Wen has not arrived yet.”

This was the twentieth time Wen Qiaolun had asked, and the answer remained the same.

Unable to wait any longer, she suddenly stood up and said anxiously, “Aijia can’t wait any longer. Prepare to leave the imperial palace at once!”

Just as her words fell, the chief eunuch stepped into the imperial study. Bowing before Wen Qiaolun, he reported, “Empress Dowager, Prime Minister Wen has arrived and is waiting outside.”

Hearing this, Wen Qiaolun quickly said, “Hurry and let him in.”

“Yes, Empress Dowager.” The chief eunuch stepped out, then soon returned with Wen Kang following behind him.

Seeing her elder brother, Wen Qiaolun ordered, “All of you, leave us.”

“Yes, Empress Dowager.” The young eunuchs and palace maidservants bowed and left the imperial study together with the chief eunuch.

When there were only the two siblings left inside, Wen Kang frowned when he saw Wen Qiaolun’s ashen complexion.

“What’s wrong with you? Why do you look so pale?” he asked as he sat down on a nearby chair.

Hearing her brother’s question, Wen Qiaolun quickly grabbed the military report from the table and handed it to him. “Elder Brother, you should look at this.”

Wen Kang opened the military report and read it carefully. As he read, his expression grew darker.

When he finished, he slammed the military report onto the table beside his seat and sneered, “Good, very good. It seems the wolf cub has learned how to bite back.”

Wen Qiaolun looked at him and worriedly asked, “Elder Brother, do you think Feng Xiyan would really rebel against the imperial court?”

Questioned by her, Wen Kang tapped the armrest slowly with his index finger. After a brief thought, he said, “I don’t think he has the guts. If he intended to rebel, he would have done so long ago.”

“Then why did he suddenly seize Xiquan City and the Ji Army?” Wen Qiaolun asked anxiously.

Falling silent, Wen Kang thought for a moment before replying, “Yirui is currently on the western border. I will have him investigate this matter.”

He then lifted his gaze to his younger sister and added, “You stay put for now and don’t do anything unnecessary. I will handle this.”

Looking at her elder brother’s confident expression, Wen Qiaolun calmed down and nodded obediently. “Yes, Elder Brother.”

Since it wasn’t appropriate for him to remain in the imperial palace too long, Wen Kang stood up and said, “Recently, the Jin Empire has been making moves. You should be cautious when dealing with them.”

“I know.”

Putting the military report into his sleeve, Wen Kang added, “It won’t be good if someone with ulterior motives sees me here this late. I will return home now. Remember, inform me if anything happens.”

“Yes, Elder Brother.”

Seeing that Wen Qiaolun had calmed down, Wen Kang left the palace. On his way back, he said, “Sha Ying, come out.”

A second later, a silver-masked man slipped through the carriage window and sat before him. With his sword in hand, Sha Ying asked, “Have you made your decision, Prime Minister Wen?”

Wen Kang looked at him and asked him back, “What does your Pavilion Master want from the Wen Clan?”

Sha Ying shrugged at his words. “My position isn’t high enough to know that. But if you agree to our terms, you will be granted a chance to meet our Pavilion Master. By that time, you can ask our Pavilion Master yourself.”

Knowing that he was at a disadvantage in this transaction, Wen Kang reluctantly said, “Fine. This Prime Minister will give your Pavilion Master what he wants. However, he must bring me Feng Xiyan’s head as we agreed upon before.”

At his words, a faint smile appeared on Sha Ying’s lips. “Don’t worry, Prime Minister Wen.”

“Our Hong Sha Pavilion’s reputation as the top assassination and intelligence organization in the Central Continent is well known. As long as Prime Minister Wen doesn’t play any tricks, both sides will get what they want.”

Wen Kang sneered at his confident words. ‘I would like to see if the Hong Sha Pavilion is really up to its reputation. If they really can bring me Feng Xiyan’s head, giving what they want is not a loss.’

With that in mind, Wen Kang said, “Remember, you only have three days to complete the mission. Otherwise, the deal is off.”

Sha Ying smirked and nodded. “Got it.”

The moment he finished speaking, he vanished from the carriage.

Closing his eyes, Wen Kang muttered, “Feng Xiyan, so what if you have taken Xiquan City? In the end, you are just a gutter rat who can be killed with a single word from me. Once you die, no one will ever learn that secret.”

While Wen Kang was drowning in his fantasies, the military messenger was standing before a sickly-looking man.
